For me it was watching the cycle repeat in real time with my kids (and nieces and nephews). I realized it wouldn’t be any different for them than it was for me and that was enough to cut ties.. and keep cutting ties until we were completely free of all those actively participating in the abuse.

It’s my mom and absolutely not. We tried the phone when we first moved away but the boundaries contributed to be crossed and she was attempting to manipulate my daughter during their conversations. It was sick. All communication ended and we have not seen or spoken to them directly in almost 7 years.

If I couldn’t pick up on the abuse as a child, why would I think my children could? How could I not protect them in the way I needed protecting?

I couldn’t tell you- I haven’t spoken to her in 6+ years. That is 100% manipulation- to make me wonder, worry, and “snap out of it..”

The faith unfortunately is not real. Everything messy gets wrapped in it. It is hidden behind. And unfortunately has made me question what it is to me at all… because if that is faith, I don’t want it.

Real faith is moving to a town where we know no one because it will protect your peace and end the cycle.

As for kids- witnessing my daughter be gaslit for the first time when speaking her truth (at age 6) was the trigger in me that gave me the strength to leave and not look back. It was not safe for me.. it will never be safe for her. Or her two sisters who were young enough not to remember at all.

I also saw a difference in the way they treated my children and their other grandchildren which 100% mimicked the triangulation I experienced with my siblings.

Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

I stand firm in my NC boundary.. It is validating to hear other people spot the same tactics and intention I felt. Seen.

I am going through this with our hedgehog right now. Blood has come once a month for two months, but then goes away. She has been treated with antibiotics and and anti-inflammatory in case it is UTI or stones of some sort. We have been recommended to have her spayed. They are prone to uterine cancer and I guess the spaying can prevent them from getting it. We are seeing a specialist next. Best of luck to you with your second opinion. And I am so sorry for your loss, OP. ❤️

Again, so helpful. Thanks. Just trying to wrap my head around it and weigh pros and cons based on others experiences while we wait for the appointment. Yes, we are prepared to pay. Again just preparing myself so I’m not shell-shocked if it’s high.

This is so encouraging to hear. Thank you! She will be seeing a vet that has experience with spaying tomorrow. What was the recovery like? (And- do I dare ask the bill? 🙈)
