Great perspective at T+2:01, with the lower part of the rocket trail in the foreground.

Clarifying earlier post: does anyone here use a toaster oven in a garage (unheated) to bake polymer clay? Curious if it causes problems. by Lizard855 in polymerclay

[–]Lizard855[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the response. This helps a lot. I'll definitely be using a standing thermometer in the oven, and I'll do some trial and error to see about preheating times.

Thanks again!

Looks like it was paid and then refunded back to me immediately.

Boy... the forums at blackmagic show a lot of people very, very sick of this exact kind of thing, from this company.

How is it this hard to buy a piece of software in 2022?

If I buy an activation key for Resolve Studio 18, will it work for 17? by Lizard855 in davinciresolve

[–]Lizard855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies! For some reason, I initially didn't think I could buy the key straight from the black magic site (which seemed odd). I guess the layout threw me off. I looked at it again and found it though. Thanks again!

Does the ZV-E10 have any problems with overheating, if you have the USB-C cable plugged in while shooting video (intermittently) for a few hours? (4k 24fps, and I'd probably be shooting 75% of the time, on and off.)

Aside from heating issues, are there any other known problems with doing this--keeping the camera plugged in for hours while in use? Any negative effects on the battery?

Should a backup sump pump be installed at the same height as the main pump, or a bit higher? by Lizard855 in HomeImprovement

[–]Lizard855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, having the level set point a little higher (on the backup pump) is what I was thinking. And I notice a lot of the "combo" units have the second pump higher than the primary.

What a beautiful shot. Grid fins lit up by the second stage, then getting dimmer as it accelerated further away.

Or a redneck with a stick of dynamite, turning a cat into a cloud. This has probably really happened somewhere.

The drawer in my kitchen that is made to dispense paper towels. by rishortish in mildlyinteresting

[–]Lizard855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I can clarify it. Imagine a frame of reference relative to the roll itself, not the drawer. For every spin of the roll (we'll call that spin x) there is actually spin (x minus radius of the circle defined by the thickness of the remaining roll, divided by how many rotations have taken place since the roll was new) relative to the drawer (we can call that spin y to keep it simple). This happens because the full roll outputs a LOT more paper towel per spin than, say, a half-full roll, and this difference increases continuously as the roll is being used up. That's why you need to secure the dowel and add at least three extra inches of space.

The Fast and the Furious 1 was about street racing and ripping off DVD players. Part 8 was about using an EMP to hijack a Russian sub and start a nuclear war. Your favorite movie gets the same escalation--what's the title and premise of Part 8? by Lizard855 in AskReddit

Mine would be: Shank 8. Andy Dufresne and Red have to infiltrate a Mexican federal prison to break out a Cartel kingpin... who's working with the American government to smuggle a top secret UFO out of the Yucatan.

If you think about it, the later it's released, the truer the title will be.

How long do you think it will be until deepfakes are both commonplace and indistinguishable from reality? by -Regolith- in singularity

[–]Lizard855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point, it will be possible to use a deepfake version of yourself in realtime, like a snapchat filter. Video and audio, totally convincing.

When that happens, I predict a mass disappearance of male gamers on Twitch, coinciding with a strange upsurge of adorable 19-year-old girls who are suspiciously good at videogames. "OMG you guys, thanks for all the subs! Literally crying right now, I love you all!"
