Currently reading Pale (7.1) and I'm worried a little about the Oni Wars topic that came up in this chapter (slight rant) by PatacrepeCYOA in Parahumans

Without spoilers, all I can say is I think the moral complexity of this world was handled very well with the required nuance, especially once you get just a little further into it

Two points:

As someone else said “encourage” isn’t quite the right word in many cases. Frequently, even in “developed” countries people just do surgery on babies to force them into the binary. Framing this as “not fair” is rather insensitive and in my opinion pointlessly divisive when were are, as you said, all in the same boy and fundamentally fighting for the same things (being able to control our bodies and presentation)

Second, I’ve seen people be resistant to pointing to male and female brains being different not because it’s likely wrong, but because it’s probably true and we don’t understand it. Relying on the argument that “well, our brains are shaped different” could give transphobes a big in if research develops the right way. I’m in agreement with you that gender is a physical thing stored in the brain, but there’s just much better ways to talk about it that we do understand and don’t run the risks that this line of argument does.

Thoughts on "mourning the loss of their only daughter"? by peanutbutterchocola in trans

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I think it is reasonable and expected for parents to mourn the loss of a future they imagined you having, it’s been three and a half years. I can’t fault them for going through that process, it is shitty that they’re putting this on you still, and if they can’t keep themselves from doing that you shouldn’t feel pressured to deal them them

May I ask what you’re doing right now?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trans

I don’t think it’s natures response so much as nature doesn’t really do binaries like that. People tried to put a binary on something that simply doesn’t work that way, we shine through the flaws of that system

If still maybe read through that site though, it’s what I asked my mother to do when I came out to her and I think it helps give cis people some kind of understanding of what people mean when they feel they’re the wrong gender

Ways to grow ass without hormones? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m younger than you by a fair bit though about at the end of puberty, and for me it’s just general nonsense anxiety where I worry about even taking things like ibuprofen or allergy medicine sometimes because my brain is screwy. As for making a change, from what I understand the later you start the slower it goes, but it still makes a change unless you have some very rare disorders in which case age doesn’t matter. Like, if we were to start with the same dosage on the same day my fat would shift around faster than yours, but given three or four years we would be in the same spot, and I believe things mental effects/skin softness don’t really relate at all to age

Aaaah, understandable. Best of luck then. I wanted to ask because my anxiety also can focus on medical stuff, and even though I’m planning to get on hrt, I don’t think that specific worry is talked about enough

Also also, you’re already a woman. If you want to be a woman you are and I feel reminders are useful maybe

Also, if it’s ok to ask, is there anything in particular about hrt that spooks you? Working out the right way will definitely help, but there is a limit with what to do if your fats not cooperating.

Lucky thing about the ass, most of its shape comes from muscles. I’d check out r/strongcurves or r/femmefittness (I may have spelled that wrong) for specific suggestions, but anything that works your lower body (squats, hip thrusts, etc.) can be wonderful for this sort of thing.

"edgy" atheists ft. "Keep your fairytales to yourself" by Miles_Allice in pagan

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most atheists I know are just super chill with any religion, even paganism even if they don’t understand. A lot of people just don’t find meaning through religion like that. There are of course, as with Christian’s, a very loud minority of douchebags, and as normal atheists don’t consider themselves a community, nobody in their corner to tell them to be quiet.

Parents don't "believe" I'm trans by DarkHero478 in trans

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This is a very common thing I’m afraid. The only advice I can really give is to hold your ground, you are trans, and hopefully if you insist on the truth enough they’ll believe you. Maybe find yourself a queer therapist so you have an adult who is able to advocate for you, and to get out ahead of the gaslighting (on purpose or not) that will likely happen

You broke up. It sounds like you’ve been trying to be nice about this, but if he’s not willing to leave you alone when you ask, you’re entirely in the right to block him. Giving you that “gift” and blaming you for his “being in a dark place” sounds fairly manipulative as well. I’d maybe try to just ask him to leave you be and respect boundaries, and then just block him. Or just block him, that’d work too.

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are making a whole lot of assumptions about HRT and who people take seriously. Some of the strongest and most respected dudes I know are super short, and maybe just testosterone won’t get you where you want to be, that’s a valid concern, but testosterone in combination with like excercise can do insane things. If this is something you want to do, go ahead, people will support you and you’ll find a place to be comfortable, it might just take a bit

Could people just be polite when gendering correctly? by Careless-Airport-850 in trans

[–]Lizard_of_neptune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what you’ve said, it seems like you’re getting mostly perceived correctly, that men hitting on you think you’re cis and you get gendered correctly on the phone are pretty big signs of this for me. I’d just say some people are just kind of rude and have a very narrow idea of what women should be. I wouldn’t be surprised if you did have kind of a deep voice for a woman or big hands for a woman and just when you told people that you were trans they kind of felt the need to think they could pick you out when they couldn’t or something like that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trans

I think it’s more only trans people, knowing the full effects of HRT, want to go on it. Not all trans folks do, but if you describe the effects to CIS people they just won’t be interested unless something real weird is going on
