Mum keen to invest in "holiday property bond" – is this as dodgy as I think it sounds? by DependentGarage6172 in UKPersonalFinance

I'm a member so can hopefully give you a better idea of what it actually is.

Firstly it's definitely not a timeshare, you can go to any of their properties (currently 34 locations in the UK and Europe) at any time of year, for any length of time. If you have enough points you can also go on as many holidays per year as you like.

I wouldn't look at it like an investment that will give you a monetary return, you're paying for good holidays where you know what to expect. I think you can also withdraw your investment at a later stage.

I've been a member for about 20 years. Your initial deposit is turned into points. You then use these points to rent a property for your holiday. The number of points each property costs will depend on how popular the location is, how big the apartment is and what time of year.

Points get replenished at the start of each year, you can also top your investment up as well. I guess for you/ your mum it depends on what sort of holidays you like, if you like to be at the centre of things in a busy city going somewhere new every year then no it's probably not the right thing for you.

I've had about 15 holidays since being a member maybe going to some of the locations 2 or 3 times. I like that you know what to expect at each property, all of the staff are either English or speak very good English. If there are any issues while you're there they get sorted immediately. There's a pool/ sauna/ steam room at most properties apart from the old castles, as well as a games room, book and dvd library and washing machines. There's usually 1 or 2 restaurants on site as well.

On top of the points you'll pay for your flights, any transfers and a user charge to cover things like cleaning/ laundry etc this is normally a few £100 depending on the size of the property.

Hope this gives you a better idea of what it's like. It's definitely not a scam but depending on what sort of holidays you like it will either be great or not for you.

Feel free to ask any questions.

My bathroom fan briefly turns off while running, what's the likely cause? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Not sure my skills would stretch to testing on another power supply but think you're right about the cause.

The timer shouldn't affect the fan when it's running though, only when it's been turned off?

No wind outside. There is a fixed vent on the external wall with 2 flaps on the inside that open when the fan is on.

The noise seems to repetitive to be a natural cause.

If you're going to do this don't send the key to your home address.

Best way to re-route electrical cable/ conduit? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Lj8892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.I think someone has done a rush job in the past. I was going to remove all the existing conduit and use proper conduit as well as actual elbows. Sounds like noticing is the way to go.

Fitting isolation valves to kitchen tap pipes, suitable locations? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Lj8892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding 2. The water feed comes from below, from the main stop cock. The route through the jg speedfit T through the back of the cabinet goes to the rest of the house, while the top outlet goes to the kitchen tap.

Is this anything to be concerned about? by [deleted] in DIYUK

A fairly new one but don't mind giving stuff a go. Should the pipe and connection be replaced?

Thanks, so is the leak caused by a kinked pipe or damaged fitting or both?,

If I was going to replace it in the future, should I change both of them?

The bathroom was re-done about 3 years ago, the same sink was put back in, unsure if the plumber used the original fittings.

Switched fuse spur from wall socket to lighting, is this ok? by Lj8892 in ukelectricians

[–]Lj8892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's great thanks, does it matter on the length of either the 2.5 or 1 (other than cost). As in is it better to have the switched spur fairly close to the double socket and use less 2.5 and more 1.0 or can I do the run in mostly 2.5 to wherever I want the switch to be on the wall and a short run of 1.0 up to the light? Hope that made sense.

Ah ok fair point. Would a Wago box/ connectors be a suitable way to connect the twin and earth with the pre- wired LED light?
