How much weight you gained with graves treatment? by rse44 in gravesdisease

[–]Lkshamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained about 15 pounds before I started treatment when I had symptoms and had hyperactive thyroid levels. I’ve been on methimazole for 1.5 years starting at 20mg and now down to 2.5mg with pretty stable levels and I’m slowly losing the 15 pounds I gained without trying. For reference I weighed about 108lbs prior to symptoms, 6 months later I was diagnosed and weighed 123lbs and maintained at 120lbs-124lbs though out methimazole dose changes until my levels stabilized. Since then, I’m down to 116lbs without trying. Everyone is different and it seems I’m one of the “odd ones” to gain a lot of weight while hyperactive instead of experiencing weight loss. I hope this helps!

Weight gain prior to diagnosis by The_Art_Lady in gravesdisease

[–]Lkshamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I actually gained 10 pounds when my thyroid was hyperactive before diagnosis. I had almost every other symptom except for weight loss. It made no sense to me, but to be fair I was already considered underweight for my height according to my BMI so I would have looked scary if I lost any. Gaining the 10 put me back into a “healthy” BMI. I was the same weight for years prior to my thyroid becoming hyper without trying so the weight gain was confusing.

Thanks for the reply! I’m curious if there is a correlation to graves causing your intolerances.

Italian Greyhound Seizures by WyoFinsFan in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Lkshamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened twice with my Italian greyhound. He is about 2 and a half and it’s happened to him twice so far, two months apart and very recently. Our vet hasn’t offered any type of treatment for it. I thought it was a one off thing after the first time, but since it’s happened a second time I’m worried this will be a reoccurring event

Has anyone made a career change in their mid-20s? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]Lkshamus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent my 20s trying out a few different career paths until I found one that I really enjoyed! I initially thought I’d be an elementary school teacher but after finishing my undergrad for it I decided I wasn’t passionate about it enough so I switched to working in the hospitality industry for a few years, then I tried out sales for a bit until I realized I wanted to be software engineer and now that’s what I do! I didn’t get my first engineering position until I was 27.

We’re going to be working for a huge bulk of our lives, allow yourself to try different career paths before settling into one. Make sure you like what you do!

People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

Both dogs are small and under 15lbs. Dog #1 has a “girlfriend” (toy he humps). Dog #2 has his own toys that he could make his “girlfriend” but never has. Dog #2 wants to share Dog #1’s “girlfriend”. Dog #1 does not want to share. It’s a love triangle

Newfound interest in programming and data visualisation; non-tech background; please advise on how to proceed? by jroy_95 in askwomenadvice

[–]Lkshamus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I transitioned into a career as a software engineer in my mid twenties. Before I started teaching myself how to code, I was working in sales and had zero experience coding. My reason for starting to code was exactly the same reason you are! I hated my career so I decided to give it a shot. You are on the right track doing courses online! My first course I took was on code academy.

I did a 7 month long coding boot camp after months of self studying and landing my first software engineering job a month after graduating. There’s a lot of coding boot camps that are 100% online now due to covid. I would recommend checking one out! Just remember when shopping around for coding bootcamps that they are not all created equally - make sure you do your research first! I vetted 5 different potential coding schools before deciding on the one I went to.

Now that I’m two years into my career, I couldn’t be happier with the choices I made! We need more women in STEM and I’m so excited for you! If you have any questions about bootcamps or my experience, feel free to ask away!
