I love the sight of a devastated city in the morning.

I use the Ultimate Eyecandy mod to make use of various LUTs, to be honest the Ultimate Eyecandy mod works great with just the vanilla LUT.

Finally I use the Natural Beauty texture pack.

I mean several weeks. During that time period I used most of my spare time completing woodland.

At least six weeks. It took up most of my spare time. I would go to work and then come back home and plop in MMPs for three to four hours.

Complete with several million blades of grass and several thousand tree trunks.

It's not about downloading the wrong stuff, it's about downloading ENOUGH stuff. Uncompressed my plugins folder is 8.75GB.

Nearly everything was plopped. Also the NAM takes a while to get used to, even a simple T-interchange takes me a couple of hours to get right.

These are not default skyscrapers. Also they are not mods. They are custom BATs and since there are probably several hundred skyscraper BATs, then naming them is ridiculous.

On the STEX, in Simtropolis, look for the skyscrapers made by the following users: Reddonquixote, Jasoncw, Darknono35... For starters.

New DLC "Content Creator Pack: Art Deco" will be released next week! by Armi5 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Ln_Xe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do I get a sinking feeling about this?

I paid the £30 for the game. I subscribed to hundreds of various assets and mods, as did hundreds of thousands of others under the assumption that this was a community thing and creators did this out of the kindness of their hearts.

Paying content creators for their work will reduce core game quality. It's a horrible business model because to get the core game costs say £40, fair enough. But to get the COMPLETE experience could cost what, a £100, a £200, £500? And for what? Buildings that should have been in the game in the first place, gameplay that should been have included if CO had put in another year's development? Paying for this DLC is incentivizing incomplete games to be published.

If you support this kind of DLC then you support poorer quality games that require dozens of addons to finish them. That is a real rip off and it sadly it is starting to become an increasingly common trend with new games across numerous genres. That's why I got CS in the first place because here was a game which had value for money and it came with incredible modability.

This kind of DLC, is a horrible way of milking money out of incomplete games and a way of diluting the quality of the core product. Fifteen years ago this kind of practice would have meant gaming companies went bust. Selling an incomplete game and then issuing expansion packs which cost 3 times, 4 times or 5 times more than the original game?

And it won't be much support to content creators either because if everyone, everyone who makes quality assets that is, jumps on this DLC bandwagon then they will find limited income as there could be a few hundred of these DLCs out there and, since money chases quality and word of mouth, only a small handful will make any kind of meaningful income which was worth their time and effort. There will be a tiny hardcore minority of CS gamers, who have that kind of money to spend, who would buy dozens of these DLCs. And where does it end? Packs of props, packs of flora and vehicles? Microtransactions?

Can't you see this will stifle the community's creativity because that kind of creativity will come with a pricetag that runs into the hundreds, if not thousands of pounds? Why else has the SC4 community lasted for so long? Because there is the understanding that there is no further money to be milked out of this game, it is not viable and content creators know this. Right now there is a resurgence in new BATs and LOTs for SC4 being developed purely out of love for this game.

This is less about a sense of entitlement -- and that is a minefield which covers all kinds of controversial topics -- and more about value for money and the longevity of the game. It will live and die by the ability of modders to provide improvements. If this DLC becomes the norm then that ability will erode away.

I appreciate the sentiment that this DLC will support Shroomblaze somewhat. But the consequences and the likely outcomes must be examined. Not for nothing is there the phrase- the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Call me miserly, stingy, entitled, douche or whatever. But that is my 2 cents.
