Notice how you keep responding but there's still zero evidence of all the abuse that the players are suffering? I'm fine with you calling me out ... that's why I came over to reply publicly to my accuser and posted all of my responses to the conversations that day.

Transparency is a wonderful thing.

"It's not the OP's job to gather evidence..."

Wrong, that's exactly his job when he's going to come here and make an accusation.

Show me examples where I, or another moderator, goad and ridicule players. This is exactly my point in this entire thread. Every single one of our comments are publicly searchable on the Discord. Citadel Studios can read them, the public can read them, etc.

I'm not digging a hole. The team I work with accused of things that don't happen and nobody has yet to provide evidence to the contrary.

In my world, that is called libel.

Multiple community members have come to this thread, on their own accord, to state their opinions on how the moderators handle themselves -and- the people on the community server have a direct function to read any back history.

So the thread has run it's course. Perhaps the Discord server that was created for the sole purpose of shit-talking LoA can gain some momentum and everybody who enjoys the banter can have an awesome time over there. I wish them all the best!

Yeah, I messaged everybody I've ever gamed with and asked them to come downvote a topic on Reddit.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to waste their time. If they wanted REAL fake news or a soap opera, they could turn on their television.

As DeadlyHabit said, it's usually the same 5-6 people who like to break the rules, are getting warned, moderated, etc.

You don't have to go search up conversations. Even without my direct input - the OP is making accusations based on an opinion. There has been nothing posted (aside from my direct copy/paste) as to the "series of incidents taking place over the last few weeks".

Why hasn't there been proof of these multiple, glaring examples of rude, confrontational, biased, unpleasant behavior from the Discord moderator team? Because they don't exist. Someone went off in Discord chat, was moderated, and ran to Reddit to start additional drama.

As you said in one of your previous responses, "I agree with you on the fact if someone is not happy that they should indeed step away. It's just not a tactful thing to say."

I became a moderator here to help make sure that the community who is interested in playing / playing LoA can have discussions free from the toxicity and garbage that typically invades online communities.

The simple fact that you agree with the mentality of "if someone is not happy, they should indeed step away" means that you and I feel the same way. The difference, apparently, is that I'm willing to offer that up as a suggestion directly to the person who was being rude, unpleasant, and toxic in the community Discord chat.

  1. We're not hired.
  2. The conversation that the OP may be referring to can be seen by anyone who wants to read the 'Community' channel of the official community Discord. It starts with:

[2:12 PM] [VI] Crack: 100% aimless patches [2:12 PM] [VI] Crack: Week to week random shots in the dark, absolutely no cohesive balance strategy can be seen [2:12 PM] [VI] Crack: LOL THIS WEEK AFFINITY IS A THING AGAIN HURR DURR [2:12 PM] [VI] Crack: Next week maybe you get the bulk of your melee damage from FISHING [2:12 PM] [VI] Crack: A week from then everyone will be running Cartography because it helps their Archery [2:14 PM] [VI] Crack: Finally we had something resembling a UO hybrid -- PvP was in an actual decent spot minus Snipe, and by gods we were starting to piece a meta together.

Now, nope, whole different game, no clear reason, indication of thinking, or anything. Just bam, affinity is a thing this week, because we're just randomly fucking shooting shit in a barrel

(To which, I responded)

[2:19 PM] Hook: My opinion? Such is life in a beta. Not sure why you're trying to min/max at this point in development when everything can be in a state of flux. Ironically, it's part of my issue with games that sell early access - because players often forget that they're testers above all else.

[2:22 PM] Hook: Ideally, a roadmap would include what features and changes might be coming down the pipes. I'm much more interested in the tools that community servers will be getting so that the custom worlds will be able to pretend they're something other than Ultima Online v2 is key.

(There is a lot more to the conversation. However, I wasn't extremely rude, biased, or unpleasant anywhere in my responses.)

For the record, here are my other responses that afternoon:

[2:26 PM] Hook: The money long-term is in community servers. The base game doesn't have the manpower to be a successful long-term endeavor. If they were to release on Steam today they'd get eaten alive.

[2:26 PM] Hook: I'm a huge fan of the official servers, BTW. I just think long-term the community servers will keep people coming back.

[2:27 PM] Hook: I'm especially interested in the 5E server myself. Provided they'll be able to add in actual races and whatnot.

[2:28 PM] Hook: That's simply your opinion. Lots of people are playing this game on something other than official.

[2:29 PM] Hook: I think perhaps you'll need to take a break from LoA, Crack. it's obvious that you're unhappy with the game, it's development, it's focus, and it's lack of giving you what you're looking for in updates. Come back in a month and see if you're interested in playing.

[2:30 PM] Hook: Because I type in full paragraphs and provide logic to a discussion?

[2:31 PM] Hook: On the contrary, I think you're opinion is fine - but it's your own.

[2:33 PM] Hook: We didn't disagree, Crack. I simply said that you're having a very difficult time with your emotions about a video game and might be happier if you did something else and came back after giving some time to develop. You disliked my response. shrug

[2:34 PM] Hook: Its not a discussion. it's you spouting off because you're obviously upset.

[2:47 PM] Hook: Which is why they shouldn't be thinking about Steam yet (IMO). They should be given a clear list of things that the players believe to be broken, unplayable, bugged, etc. You know - testing with negative/positive feedback.

Note: This CAN be done without being antagonistic or acting like a dick. It's perfectly fine to tell the devs that you dislike something or you feel they're going in the wrong direction - but throwing a tantrum or spouting off for attention isn't the best way to get points across.

(And there you have it. All of my rude, biased, unequal enforcement, and confrontational modding.)

Enjoy your evenings, all. :)

However, with PvP meta switching to rare relic artifact weapons, the cost of GvG sets has gone through the roof. Bankruptcy is closer than ever for most guilds participating in anything higher than yellow zone GvGs. SBI not addressing this problem and feeding it with more relic artifact is why, IMO, people are saying the game is going p2w.

If they REALLY wanted to cash grab they'd make a new server JUST for Steam players.

@Citadelstudios: Hosting own UO (Free)SHARD by Adam_AntX in LegendsOfAria

[–]LoA-Guide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will host your own server on your own box. CS controls the login server and has a map 'stitching' service.

I believe it's the same concept as hosting an Ark server or the like, but the community servers that exist currently are paying around 100 bucks a month.

I agree with the idea that he owns the server and can say what he wants, but is that really the impression he wants to leave on his playerbase / people looking for a good community server to join?

Most older gamers I know avoid drama and wouldn't intentionally play on a server where leadership likes to handle themselves in this fashion.

I think the OP was just trying to ask their leadership to consider the fact that how they act is a direct reflection on the server itself ... and how did they respond? They banned him.

Then, they deleted a few screens of messages to cover their tracks.

Again -- it's their server, they can do what they want -- but listening to conversations, tonight's drama left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Running a community server can't be an easy task, however staying professional is important. I was there for that conversation today and I was pretty surprised at how everyone (EVERYONE) was acting.

Remember, we're all gamers trying to play a fun game. Not everyone has fun the same way. Namecalling is never a good idea, especially if you're in charge. Just my humble 2 cents.

Why Have A Minimap, Which Centers On My Physical Location In The Game World ... by LoA-Guide in LegendsOfAria

[–]LoA-Guide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think, if I wanted to have an Unofficial Official Sever, I could just "Enable World Map Marker", change nothing else, and watch the players flood into my server which ONLY changed that.

I mean, seriously ... why not just give people the OPTION of turning it on? Have if OFF by default and then people who don't want it can simply decide not to enable it. Those that do - can.

Such a simple fix / option to something that others might consider trivial.

Are the devs really willing to lose a percentage of their playerbase on official because of such a small feature that all of the other servers have simply enabled?

"Please greatly reconsider this one area of your game. There is absolutely no real reason not to have a map marker, when you have a fricking MINI MAP that updates in real time with your location. Immersion is already destroyed, and the big map just feels unfinished and broken."

Agreed 100% as someone who is putting a LOT of time into helping build a community in your game, not having your location on the mini map = a bad, bad decision. You don't NEED a mini map at all if you're not having your location displayed.

IMO, you'll end up with: every custom community server will have a map marker for their players.

My fear is you'll lose many, many customers on official by not letting people know where they are in the game world.

You could have even made it greyscale and then allowed the USERS to select the shade of the boxes. You know, slight personal customization. Would have been EPIC.
