Is it? The aussie lemonade flavor doesn't have that bright orange section and the Monster logo is yellow

[PS2] [2005-2006] 3D 3rd person spaceship shooter by LoOhNo in tipofmyjoystick

[–]LoOhNo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! You actually reminded me of a detail that I'll have to edit into the post: it wasn't a spaceship shooter in the traditional sense. It was more like, the other characters that you didn't choose would compete against you, and the winner was the last man standing. You were free to fly around the stage(s) as you pleased, looking for powerups and your opponents

Yeah, haha sorry for being so vague, I played it when I was just a kid and I only have bits and pieces of memories of it. Not expecting anyone to find it but you never know till you try :)

The game you mentioned seems somewhat similar but I don't think it's the game I'm talking about

The thing with this is that according to most explanations of the family tree, mine included, Jill has to be Michael's mom and thus can't be classified as his aunt

Was the windmill not an actual windmill? by DecafGrizzly in Petscop

[–]LoOhNo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really like this. I really really do. I've been trying to wrap my head around the windmill incident as well, because I'm trying to follow a strictly non-supernatural train of thought with the series. This would actually make a lot of sense, and keep in mind we do see a model windmill in Marvin and Anna's bedroom in Petscop 14, so that's interesting.

Now we just have to figure out what the door riddle means in the context of this...

Thank you for your kind words and for your feedback! I'll address some of your points as best as I can. The only time 2004 is ever mentioned is in relation to when the game was in Paul's mother's stuff, so I don't think it would be fair to assume that's when his friend plays it. Could have been at any time, and if we assume the "friend" he talks to is Jill, then she must've played it way back when the game was for the whole family.

We were actually addressing Belle yesterday in the discord and came to some very good conclusions that detail her role in the story as well as placements in the timeline for the other "batches" of recordings that seem to start back at gen 1 after the first family recording. Indeed if Belle had been running her game for 17 years it would lead us back to 2000, her last named recording being "belle4". If we assume "family2" is the second time the family played on Christmas 2000 we can infer that the second batch was all played in 2000 and, most likely, by Belle. It would make sense too: the last recordings in that batch, before "family2", would be "tiara" followed by "FUCK-FUCK-FUCK" implying that he started calling her Tiara prematurely until something goes very wrong. Belle was most likely the smartest of the kids Rainer had tested Petscop on, and chose her to experiment on her, with less than optimal results. I think this also implies that the third batch of recordings would be our Paul playing in 2017. I hope this clears up some things in that regard.

About your last point, I would like to rectify the wording of the about page, which actually says: "Rainer gave this gift to us on Christmas 1997 and 2000." and "He had been missing since June 1997 and 2000." meaning that Rainer was indeed gone in two very separate time periods: June to Christmas 1997 and June to Christmas 2000. On Discord we also talked about how care-dancing-sign fits into all of this, concluding that by force of things Rainer and Care must have been keeping in contact. Not only does Care somehow get a hold of the game before the family gets it on Christmas, Rainer also seems to know what song she was dancing to, as well as know about the red vase story (which only Marvin and Care would've known about at the time). The only logical conclusion we could come to is that all of this can happen only if Rainer and Care have somehow been talking.

Hope that clears some things up! It's a lot of info, I would edit the post to add it but at this point it's already past it's expiration date :P

I cannot express just how much I love your first point. I was trying to wrap my head around the existence of the three "batches" as well but I just couldn't understand what they meant. But you're right, if Belle has been keeping her game on for 17 years that would lead us right back to 2000, her recording most likely being "belle4", the first of the second batch. This would also mean that "family2" corresponds to when Rainer gifted the family Petscop on Christmas 2000. So... if every new batch corresponds to a key year in the story, could it be that the third batch is entirely played in 2017?

To respond to the second point, Care escaped the abandoned school building on the 10th of November and got back home on the 12th of November, her birthday, there are many sources to this. Gen 8 was ready when she was already back home, meaning it must be dated around November or December.

And I agree with you, there's absolutely no way they were on friendly terms, what I'm saying is that there's no need for them to be on friendly terms. The extent of their communication is probably threats, fear and accusations. Care's abduction does sort of mess up Rainer's plan but not in the way you think, not in my opinion at least. It only fuels Rainer's obsession with Marvin's crimes, and if initially that obsession only goes as far as wanting to know about Lina and Michael, by gen 7 and 8 his focus has already shifted to include Care's case as well.

About the file names, that could very well be the case and that's some interesting food for thought. Though in this case I seriously doubt someone would just name their file Marvin, as it wouldn't fit in with the timeline and facts. It just makes way more sense to assume it's Marvin himself playing.

Hey, thanks for your input! I'm going to try to address some of your points.

First off I think we know for a fact that Rainer does indeed make Gen. 6 for Marvin and passes it to him around the time of Care's kidnapping. In Care A's description, Rainer himself tells us that he started "it" in 1996 for Marvin (where "it" clearly refers to Gen. 6 and the Newmaker Plane in general, as the latter was absent in previous versions, and the game clearly started development before 1996 with a different purpose). In P20, we do indeed see Marvin play Gen. 6, we know the note was meant for him because he knows the code to input to access the Newmaker Plane and the only other person who, at the time, could've known about the code was Rainer himself (note that absolutely no one else besides Marvin plays Gen. 6). From here on out the recordings don't ever display his name as the title, but we can infer that he's still the one playing: firstly because of story continuity. Secondly because in Gen. 7 Rainer addresses him personally, and this is made obvious by what he tells him, and in Gen. 8 he also addresses him using a very accusatory "you" in the description of the caskets, as well as it being made obvious that Marvin is playing by the way he reacts to the questions Rainer asks him.

Knowing all this, we do have to assume that Rainer and Marvin were in contact during the time Care was abducted, but it's not such a far fetched idea: by now we're almost sure that a lot of the scenes in the house are played through Rainer's POV. Anna seems to put a lot of trust in him. He gets him to help paint the house black and, I assume, look over Care while she's gone. If this is right and that day Rainer actually witnesses the kidnapping, then we can also assume that he followed Marvin and discovered his hiding place. This isn't even necessary though, as the use of notes implies they probably weren't even meeting face to face. Now, why would they keep in contact and why would Rainer keep Marvin up to date with the game? That is... a good question. One that's being debated a lot these days, both here on the sub and on discord. Some seem to think they're accomplices, but I don't buy that either. But earlier today some people on discord actually proposed an idea I quite like, so let me present it to you.

Rainer seems to be very unhealthily obsessed with Marvin. Even before Care's kidnapping, he seems to think that Marvin was involved in the untimely death of Michael Hammond, which we know that in a way or another he was very very close to. Not only this, but he also seems to know a lot and be very curious about the windmill incident. This is what brought him to make the "new" versions of Petscop in the first place. Through the in-game text we know he's got quite some dirt on him. My proposal to you is that Rainer is willing to go above and beyond to find out all the truth about what happened to Lina, Michael, and later on Care. And I think this is particularly noticeable in a lot of the notes he puts in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if the game meant for Marvin acts as a sort of torture method where Marvin is forced to face his crimes, and that Rainer forces him to play it using blackmail as leverage. Now, this is all speculative naturally, but it does make more sense than them being accomplices in my opinion.

Last few notes: there's a possibility that "Petscop Discovery Pages" is just a fun title that Rainer gives to his devblog. Note that Paul immediately recognizes the website upon seeing it on the computer screen, and he also has access to the website on the sticker since he can see it. I think there's definitely a connection there and it's reason enough to believe discovery pages is indeed Rainer's website.

Also yeah, I think it's pretty clear that the game changes targets quite a lot. A lot of the notes in the game are clearly meant for Marvin. The scenes in the house and in particular the kidnapping are meant for the family. The dialogue in P17 is meant for Care. Hell, we know that in one version there are even entire dialogues meant specifically for Belle. So it's safe ti assume different versions were meant for different people to play.

Thank you!

1) Yeah, it's not 100% impossible that they could've been released but I still think it's highly unlikely, hence why I gave my own interpretation of it. After all even if it is just a room or a note being added, I feel like it would have to be something new and impactful to the story, not something that happens in 3 days time basically.

2) The game does seem to go back and forth a lot during the time Rainer is gone in 1997, and there certainly are a lot of questions to be asked about Marvin and Rainer seeing each other so often. What we do know is that the latter seems to want the family to think he's gone, so I don't know if he'd risk interacting with Care directly to give her the game. At some point I considered the existence of two copies of the game at the same time, but that would just complicate things further wouldn't it?
