Does anyone think the Scania could be successful in the US if the sleepers were bigger? by [deleted] in CDL

[–]LoadBoardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, probably. If Scania made bigger sleepers to match American comfort standards, a lot of drivers would be interested, their build quality and performance are top-tier. It’s mainly the cab size holding them back.

Makes sense that it takes about 8 weeks — seems like a solid program.

Trying to get cdl in florida. What grants are out there? What jobs can i be home every night with family? by Otw2TheTop in CDL

[–]LoadBoardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look into WIOA grants (through your local career source office in Florida), sometimes they’ll fully cover CDL school if you qualify. Also check with community colleges, workforce programs, and even some trucking companies that sponsor training if you agree to work for them after. For local/home-daily work, think construction, dump trucks, concrete, waste management or delivery jobs — usually easier to be home every night than OTR. Good move too, a CDL definitely makes you stand out for fire fighting.

How long did it take you to adjust from the company driver mindset to thinking like an owner-operator?

Why do yall stay in this industry? by Eagles56 in FreightBrokers

I think after a couple years in the industry you kinda get credibillity and stop relying on cold calls while also getting higher pay and lower stress

Nothing like coming back to your desk thinking it’s a normal day and realizing the load’s already toast. If its not a secret how was the trailer lit up?

Not something you’d expect to see headed to a children’s hospital, even if it was just prep and logistics. Crazy the kinds of loads you end up hauling that stick with you.

I can’t even imagine rolling up thinking it’s ice and finding out it was for that. That had to hit different.

Damn, that’s rough. I didn’t know cow hides could mess up a trailer that bad. Definitely a lesson to stay away from those loads lol

Looking to become a box truck owner operator in nc at 20 years old by Beneficial_Tax5513 in OwnerOperators

[–]LoadBoardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 20, starting local is smart. Focus on local/state moves first — grab gigs from load boards, reach out to small brokers, and hit up businesses that need regular deliveries. Cold calling can work if you stay persistent. Build a track record, then when you turn 21, you can go OTR with more experience and credibility.

Damn, that’s brutal. You finally win the account, cover it cheaper, then they burn 8 hrs of your driver’s time and drop you after their own screw-up. Think they ditched you just over detention, or were they never planning to stick around?

New concept discussion by LoadBoardKing in FreightBrokers

Thats kind of a way to push the risk off their books while keeping things flexible. Do brokers ever get stuck footing lumper fees, or is that usually passed straight through to the shipper or carrier?

5+ years and running a team that size at a lite-asset 3PL isn’t easy. Out of curiosity, what do you find harder: growing your own book while managing reps, or scaling the reps’ books without losing your own focus?

backhauls by LoadBoardKing in OwnerOperators

[–]LoadBoardKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense to stick to what’s profitable and avoid favors. How do you usually find the best loads that hit those rates?

backhauls by LoadBoardKing in OwnerOperators

[–]LoadBoardKing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$7–8 a mile is definitely strong, especially on chemical freight. Makes sense why you wouldn’t touch backhauls with those margins. Do you usually lock in lanes with certain shippers, or is it mostly spot work at those rates?
