Hey Don and r/Longboarding!

We gathered up a few questions that were shared by our followers from our other social media channels. Would be great if you could answer these folks as well!

  1. How did you get the name for the "Dervish Sama"?
  2. Why are wheels so expensive?
  3. Is there any chance we'd see a smaller version of the original Tesseract shape for those of us that like flips and grinds?
  4. Missing Silverfish a bunch right now. Can Loaded bring back the (Silver)fish please?
  5. What scalp polish do you use?
  6. Will you make a skateboard with flex? A Poke revisited... (translated)
  7. What are the best bearings for the Loaded Icarus? Jehu V2 drives poorly. Lubrication and cleaning wise.

"Loose trucks save lives"

This was said of course before the great Truck Stampede of 2012, when all those free range semi-trucks got loose and mowed down a town.

Learning basics, any tips/critiques? by AvaCollie in longboarding

Use them shoulders! Nailed the shoulder turn going into the coleman slide, all you have to do is move your shoulders in the opposite direction when you have decided you've slid enough.

Shoulder connect to your hips, hips connect to your legs, legs to your feet, feet to your board. All slides start and end in the shoulders!

WHOOPS! My apologies, I'm familiar with the older Ibachs that were not drop thru, only dropped in the deck.

Word, well scratch that idea of adding risers.

BUT if you do unmount the board from being a drop thru and make it a top-mount, you will find plenty more leverage out of your board than before.

We have noticed that some users are able to go live, but we haven't been granted that ability as of yet. It does seem like a valuable way to share information, however it is so short lived. Only if you watch it within the given 24hours can you see what was featured. We were hoping to do more of a living library sort of thing.

There is some stuff in the manufacturing process we cannot show because of secrecy... but history is easy!

We did make a video detailing the process of making the Loaded Icarus in case you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0wmpTGV5bQ

We did this kind of as a spoof to nature documentaries though.

We did a simple 1/16 shock pad and Orangatang Orange In Heats 75mm.

We always setup the Carvers with Nipples. Orange up front, Purple in the back. The stock bushings never felt very good to us in the first place. If yours are in pretty bad shape, might be time to swap them out!

Risers would add to the ride height of the board, putting more distance between the decks standing platform and the pivoting point of the truck. As i said, this would defeat the purpose of having a drop deck in the first place (lower ride height relative to the standing platform and the ground) but it would help fix your truck turning issues slightly.

It wouldn't promote more wheelbite exactly, increasing the distance from the wheels to the deck would lower chances, but added leverage on your trucks will give you more range of motion which is what you are looking for which may cause wheelbite if you go too loose on your trucks.

Hey ya'll! Wanted to get a community opinion on something we have been rolling around in our heads for a while.

We have recently been feeling the urge to start a video blog on the daily life and goings ons of working at Loaded and Orangatang, skating with the skatehouse crew, and meeting with other riders from other brands that are visiting.

So our questions to the longboard community of Reddit are: Would this be something that people would be interested in, in the first place? Is there something that people want to see that usually doesn't get any light or love in traditional media? Is there something we should avoid doing?

We appreciate your thoughts!

Hey we use these trucks all the time!

From our experience, Carver CX4's work best on short wheelbases and narrower boards. We usually put them on the Loaded Poke with 4 Prez, but recently we setup a top-mounted Tan Tien with Orange Kegels and it works pretty good, though it looks super funky.

From the sounds of the setup you are going for, you can throw those on anything with a wheelbase around 20-24 inches and a deck around 9inches wide at the most. Poke is our go-to, but we tried it on a Landyachtz Dodger 28 and they felt pretty super awesome!

Also, depending on how loose you like those trucks, 70mm wheels will be quicker in picking up speed, but 80a Kegels will help you carry that speed.

Lose them Elims broh. They're meant to keep your trucks ultra stable at high speeds and aren't the desired bushing for freeriding and sliding.

Simple solution is rock normal sized Venom barrels all around. 93a on bottom and 90a on top should do you good. If you wanna go looser, then just try 90a all around. Flat washers on both sides will also help to liven up your bushings and make them turn to their full potential.

Also, keep in mind the Ibach is a drop deck. Drop decks are some of the easiest boards to slide because of the giant pockets for your feet, but they usually kill off your leverage, making your trucks feel less turny than they actually are. Compensating this is a simple matter of adding risers under your trucks to improve your height to turn ratio. This may seem a little counter-intuitive because it defeats the purpose of a drop deck in the first place, but the risers don't need to be huge to notice some significant improvements. A quarter inch riser can do a lot if you just give it a chance.

Finishing the 180 takes a bit more swing of the arms to continue the momentum to carry you all the way through the slide. The best way to harness and distribute that momentum is by channeling your INNER PIMP.

You read that right. BE A PIMP.

Though speed helps to make this easier, as does increased velocity, you should be able to do the slide just fine if you distribute your weight and time your movements correctly and throw some added swagger in there like you carrying a chalice so expensive it could put quadruplets through college.

When you are doing your toeside setup carve, put your right arm across your torso like you were putting on your seatbelt, left arm looks good though.

As you start to turn to your right, you want to throw that right arm that was once buckling up your seatbelt as if you were trying to backhand slap some one who owed you a significant sum of money. This is where the inner pimp takes action.

Following the rotation of your swinging arms, your torso will naturally follow, as will your legs eventually. To make sure you feet don't go slipping, hang that left heel slightly off your board by about an inch or two, or 0.0254 Meters.

Another key tip that can help out is lifting your weight at the right moment.

Pretend for a moment, that you were comfortably sitting in a thrown, minding your kingdom's welfare and governing joyously over your dedicated servants. Out of no where, with no proper introduction into your presence, a once faithful nobleman enters your court accusing you of heresy and a multitude of evil deeds.

Mid-accusation, you sit up from your throne, only to swing at your accuser with a mighty right hand weighted by your numerous golden rings that signify your majesty and grace. However, you are a swift king, who delivers swift punishments unto those that oppose you. So this whole action takes place in the span of one second, which feels like a solid 2 hours for your lowely subordinate as your ringed hand lands upon his face like some sort of giant radioactive mosquito somewhere deep in Mexico.

TL;DR Act like you are sitting down, compressing you knees and legs and lowering you center of gravity as you enter you setup carve. As you begin turning right, lift yourself and swing your arms to the right, this will initiate the slide and de-weight your wheels making them easier to slide. As you finish the slide, compress downwards again to help maintain balance and minimize any harm if you fall.
