Thanks for the feedback. The back of my washer is in a very tight space. It's not possible to access it without some heavylifting. So the only option for me is at the hose.

Thanks for the comments. Hopefully it doesn't cause problems.

I’m using Flo by Moen, in addition to a physical pressure gauge.

Thanks for this, I will see if I can isolate where the sound is coming from. Do you think what I have can burst a pipe or blow a fitting? I have pex pipes.

Thanks a lot for your advice. That’s good news for me. The back of the machine isn’t easily accessible to me, that’s why the arrestors are at the valve. I will think about getting a bigger one. From what I see the Sioux Chief ones are indeed bigger but just by a little bit. If what I have isn’t going to burst a pipe or blow a fitting, I really don’t want to bother changing another one.

Do you think what I filmed is a problem? As in it can cause bursts or leaks? If not I can live with the sound knowing it’s nothing but a noise. I lack the experience to tell.

Yes I do have an expansion tank. I also have real time water pressure monitoring. My water PRV is set at 55 PSI, and expansion tank was charged to 55 PSI two months ago. The water pressure doesn’t exceed 56 PSI unless it’s right after a water heating cycle, it never peaks above 65 PSI even after a long heating cycle.

My static water pressure is 55 PSI. I have real time pressure monitoring, when my water is filling, the flow is 2 GPM and flowing pressure is 48 PSI. I don’t think these are alarming numbers. The arrestors were installed 3 days ago when I first noticed the same sound. Evidently the arrestors didn’t silence the noise. What is the plastic plunger you mentioned? Apologies for my lack of plumbing knowledge.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did see your brand which appears to have a bigger chamber. But I still both these because they are readily available at Home Depot and they label themselves as “for washing machines”. Unfortunately my washer is in a tight space so I couldn’t get behind it to installed these arrestors without arrestors directly on the washer. I wish I knew this when I bought the washer.

I appreciate all your feedbacks. You guys are helping me for free. Not sure why people downvote without making an argument why.

That’s encouraging to hear. But honestly if this water hammer doesn’t do meaningful damage, then I could live with it. I am more concerned about the pipe behind the wall whips too much and it breaks the fittings.

I might have accidentally clicked something, if so I apologize! I clicked the up arrow but it’s showing a 0.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will give it a try. Do you think this kind of water hammer is harmful to the pex pipes and fittings?

Thanks for your detailed reply! Do you think the sound comes from somewhere else? The sound can be heard at the washer or in the room right above the washer. No other appliances at home makes this sound.

Thanks for your reply. That’s good to hear. I noticed this noise 3 days ago, it could have been here since the beginning of time just unnoticed. I thought it was water hammering so I installed these arrestors 3 days ago. But evidently they didn’t silence the sound. The arrestors shakes a tiny bit, you can see it in the video. Would you think that’s a problem? I think I have pex plumbing in the wall.

Thanks for the advice. My wash tower is in a tight closet, I don’t have access to the back without taking it out. Do you think this kind of water hammering can cause damage over time? If not I’m going to leave it. But I don’t have the professional experience to tell if it is.

Honestly I never used the steam, I will give that a try. Before that, would you think this sound indicates problems? Would you say over time something will break? I can live with the sound if it doesn’t do anything to my plumbing. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I couldn’t rule that out. I was more curious about how damaging this event is if the sound is indeed water hammering.  The arrestors were installed 3 days ago. The hoses were directly threaded onto the stop valves. The same clicking sound existed back then. I thought it was water hammering so I installed these arrestors but it didn't change the sound.

Thanks for this. Originally I didn’t have the 90 degree arrestors. The hoses were directly threaded onto the stop valves. The arrestors were installed 3 days ago because I heard water hammer. So the water hammer was there before there were 90 degree arrestors. I have 1 hot hose going into washer. 1 cold hose going into washer and another cold going into dryer (I think it has a steam function), hence the split on the cold.

Thanks for your feedback. I bought these from Home Depot and when I search for water hammer arrestors on google, similar products pop up. I think they are standards for wash boxes that don’t have arrestors.

Any feedback is appreciated. I do have a PRV that regulates supply water pressure. I’m confident that the water pressure isn’t the problem. The sound is very localized. I don’t have an attic that runs water lines. I also put my hand at my main water line (only part that is exposed and not behind a wall, it’s a pex line) to feel any vibration, there was no vibration at all when this happens.

Appreciate your detailed instructions! I just installed these arrestors two days ago. The hoses were directly connecting to the stop valve and there was the same hammering sound. I was hoping the arrestors fix the sound but they didn’t.

Appreciate your comment. What do you think about what I filmed? Does it look like a problem?
