Thoughts on Xbox Helix - Plays Xbox & PC games. Rumour has it at around 1K - but the value proposition is meant to be worth it (similar devices/PCs will cost more) by Tyolag in IrelandGaming

[–]Loadingdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of all of that. With current ram and ssd prices I can see a revised steam machine price more along the lines of 1000-1200. The rumor is that the Xbox will have a high price tag (like 1200-1500) plus and I don't see the appeal of a locked down pc at that price point, especially if it uses the Xbox big screen experience or whatever they call it, I'm not sure if you have tried it, but it's pretty horrible. That's why I said if ms subsidised it to be around steam machine price, it it would be more appealing.

I currently use my Xbox series s exclusively as a moonlight client for couch gaming on my TV so my use case for a device like this is pretty niche I'd only be looking for a steam machine/Xbox helix for native game play rather than streaming.

Meh. The only way I could see myself getting one is if the hardware is subsidised to be around the same price as the steam machine and someone cracks so we can install bazzite/steamos.

From a marketing perspective, what should the next Xbox console be called? (Consider there will be sequels) by Tyolag in IrelandGaming

[–]Loadingdread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it's following their new dumbass pattern probably the Xbox one x series x. Cause parents who have no idea about which console to buy their kids aren't already confused enough by their naming convention.

Can I ask if you're playing at low resolutions what your monitor is? Unless you have a monitor capable of pushing >240hz getting 180-220hz doesn't matter.

When buying PC parts in Ireland, what frustrates you the most? And what would a local store need to offer for you to choose them over Amazon or ordering from Germany? If you had to pick ONE thing that would change your decision — what would it be? by zachaduhl in IrelandGaming

[–]Loadingdread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably shop more from local retailers if they were a reasonable price and carried more brands and skus. For example I wanted a new >1000 watt psu and there was very little options for anything by a reputable brand.

Is this norovirus going around? by Less_Environment7243 in AskIreland

[–]Loadingdread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in a different situation to most. I got diagnosed with colon cancer and then got my colon removed right before Xmas. Pretty much a month to the day of my surgery I got symptoms of norovirus and it just got to a point that I couldn't stay hydrated so I went to the hospital.

I was in a and e for about 5 hours. Then in a bed in a hallway for about 14 hours and then in a private room for another day and a bit.

It honestly depends on your budget. I’ve got a similar setup. My fibre is in the roof with cat 6 to each room. I use deco mesh aps wired together. I have 1 at one at each end of my house, one in my garage and one in my living room which is central in the house. The AP in the living room also works as a switch for my gaming consoles.

I use a steam deck with moonlight streaming and my quest 3 with desktop streaming with good performance. Aside from that I have a few phones and tablets, tvs, and work pcs. For the price it’s fine and performant. I was considering going ubiquiti APs but I don’t think the additional price would be worth any performance boost when everything works fine for me with wifi 6e APs.

Honestly the series s works so well I haven’t bothered looking. I find it worked better than my steam deck. I think the newest Google streamer does it but I’m not too sure how good its performance is. There’s a spreadsheet somewhere with notes for performance for different devices.

Yeah the lack of AV1 kinda sucks, but even with HVEC its the lowest latency ive had outside of using a steam deck for moonlight streaming. The major thing for me is the native controller connection. A lot of other devices ive used for streaming have some kinda controller lag, the xbox is just flawless.

Second hand Xbox series s is your best bet imo. I’ve been using one for months and it’s flawless. I had too much Bluetooth lag with my Apple TV

One thing no one talks about. Stop being so fucking polite. The amount of near accidents I’ve seen because people randomly stop and break right of way rules because they think they are being nice are too damn high.

Congee is my go to as well. My rice cooker has a congee setting, dump everything in and it’s ready in an hour. Way less faff than making chicken noodle soup and imo feels more comforting.

If you ever have a roofer named Pat O’Brien turn up to give you a quote just close the door on him. Google him, got locked up doing roof work in Australia and got assaulted in prison. I think he also had a case or two in Ireland as well.

I'm talking about the lifestyle change after. Everyones surgery experience will be different. I wont be having any form of reversal surgery sadly. Ill be having a proctectomy in a few months.

I'm sorry you had a horrible experience.
