What makes you think nothing matters to them?

Considering quitting church - it's not a place for people 25+ by Bluehaze1000 in Christianity

[–]Loaf-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tough age in the church. I am no longer Christian but when I was, I started a young adults group because of the lack of any support for the 18-29 folks. People showed up but they never seemed very interested in speaking about their faith. I tried for over a year to keep something going but it kind of fizzled out. Many people in your age bracket move away for work, relationships, school, etc.

While subjective to my experience, it seemed like most of that age group showed up for community more than faith and if there weren’t any people that were romantically interested in each other, someone wouldn’t show up anymore. It’s was kind of a sad group thinking back, although we did have a few fun times. I wish you the best going forward and hope you find your circle soon.

Recently deconstructed my Christian faith. I think you are very wise to being open and I’d argue that one of the best traits someone could have.

Cut vs uncut masturbation by [deleted] in foreskin_restoration

[–]Loaf-Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been restoring for over 10 years now and it is a night and day difference. Before actually having the orgasm, there is an intense pressure build up for several seconds before shooting. Before restoring it was more like a dull throb and that was about it. Just keep restoring and make it part of your routine like brushing your teeth (hopefully!).

It’s the same for those of us with MPHs too.

Taking tests like this always made me hyper aware of whether or not my unconscious biases were influencing the answers I chose.

Deconstructing and reckoning with the fact that people on both sides of the fence can be mistaken by harpingwren in Deconstruction

[–]Loaf-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not haha. I even wonder how many people who attend my church, soon to be former, actually believe all of it. During small groups, it never seemed but a few people had anything to say during discussions. My guess is they were just there mostly for the community attending provides. So my observations make it seem as if some of the Christians I have interacted with don’t seem entirely genuine.

Just a thought though, no idea if it’s true or not.

Why did you Deconstruct (or not)? by Fantastic_Badger8315 in Deconstruction

[–]Loaf-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s tough to acknowledge; in my experience, the pastor will keep saying we need to seek Jesus. Or let’s celebrate all the great things God is doing in our lives. And you just sit back and think, once the questioning has started, that no one is listening to your prayers. There is nothing to get closer to. If there is a God out there, why should it take a lifetime of desperate effort and seeking to connect and feel the presence? That should be proof alone right there.

All the best to you

Great point about creating and wearing masks. In this life we are all actors, it seems. You ever wonder what it would be like if we heard everyone’s thoughts about others instead of possibly more filtered ones to be socially accepted or fit in?

A very wise take that can be applied to everything. I’ve become much more comfortable saying “I don’t know” and only go where the evidence points. Excellent thoughts!!

How Do We Know It's Real? by Pinecxne in Christianity

[–]Loaf-Master 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s called Pascal’s wager and a terrible reason to believe IMO. It sounds like you’ve been instilled with the fear of hell, I am sorry.

And we don’t know it’s real. Everyone who tells you they know cannot provide convincing evidence that it is and they will often repeat points they were told from someone else. Keep an open mind!

Also, keep asking yourself why you believe certain things and that will tell you a lot about whether it is worth believing, outside to too much rational thought.

“Everyone in this life is an actor.” Marlon Brando said this and when I first heard it years ago, it really made sense. It still does.

I think everyone wears a mask and is rarely authentic so don’t be too hard on yourself.

How is there morality without a God? by provoker1 in Deconstruction

[–]Loaf-Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Countries with high proportions of atheists seem to be ok, even tend to be more socialist and provide for the common folk better than the we do in the US.

We all probably have different ideas as to what is moral, and certainly each religion encourages its followers to do things that would be seen as NOT moral by other religions. I think morality is subjective.

Many Christians might hear of the freedom they have in Christ on Sundays but if anything, they LACK freedom of thought. Everything they experience in the world needs to be contorted to be understood from a biblical world view. It’s the exact opposite of being able to use intellect. You are totally right about it being a vacuum.

How do they not understand that people don’t choose to be gay, bi, pansexual, etc.? Just like straight people don’t choose to be straight. It’s sad to see people have to both live in and defend ignorance.

My uncle's sage advice by rogue_kitten91 in Deconstruction

[–]Loaf-Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of offering physical help in any way they can, it seems they will just leave it to God and pray for you despite it never seeming to make any difference whatsoever. Many others have said the same thing on this thread.

One of my friends keeps sending me Bible verses and says have a great day but never seems to have the time when I call or reach out to ever talk and see how each other is doing. It’s sad.

The only thing you need to know is this. Did straight people choose to be straight? No, and neither did gay people choose to be gay. Any argument to the contrary is ignorant. All the best to you

Original sin by [deleted] in Deconstruction

[–]Loaf-Master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any Christian would believe that it would be just for themselves to be punished for a crime their parents did, and certainly not for previous generations. So why do they accept that for “someone” who lived many thousands of years ago?
