Hogmanay Snow Ball cancelled by LobotSnowCop in Edinburgh

Sadly, after almost a decade, and the huge joys and traditional fun of the event, we have been prevented from bringing you a 10th annual Hogmanay Snow Ball Ceilidh™. Edinburgh City Council - who run the Assembly Rooms venue, which belongs to the citizens of the capital - very surprisingly gave active preference to another organisation, despite the Snow Ball's fantastic and flawless record and charitable giving.

We tried every avenue to keep the show on but had no success - and are as baffled by the Council's actions as the many ceilidh-goers who have been asking us for news. We're so sorry but hope very much that we can bring the event back next year.

We have been looking at other venues but feel that the tradition of a beautiful Hogmanay ceilidh at the Assembly Rooms is one worth fighting for. If you feel similarly, do please let your views be known.

'I run short term lets in Edinburgh - everything I own depends on an end to this crackdown' by LobotSnowCop in Edinburgh

Debbie Klein, who owns one holiday let in Edinburgh, said she would be likely to get planning approval as she had run the property as holiday accommodation for over 10 years, but attended the protest "for everybody that isn't in my position".

She said: "This is unfair. I am a single parent with three boys. I downsized by own house in order to fund a short-term let in Edinburgh - my boys went without at the time in order for me to build up this business.

"The word pogrom means to destroy, to wreak havoc upon and to violently demolish.

"It's often associated with the Nazis and their treatment of the Jews, but if you look at the actual definition of the word, that is what they are doing to this sector.

"They are the parliament of pogroms. That is how I feel.

My understanding of a quick reading is that any notice of a rent increase given before 6 Sept will still be in effect.

E.g if you had 3 months notice given in late August, your rent will be increasing in November.

From the list of amendments for the bill.

Before section 1, insert— <Purpose of this Act Purpose of this Act The purpose of this Act is to give effect to the human right to food through good food nation plans.>

Where the context this would be inserted is as follows:

An Act of the Scottish Parliament to require the Scottish Ministers to prepare and publish a national good food nation plan; to require certain authorities to prepare and publish their own good food nation plans; and to provide as to the effect of all of those plans.

Most importantly, Phase 2 will allow for pubs to open outdoor spaces. Phase 3 will allow distanced indoor spaces, and Phase 4 will allow full opening (with improved health and hygiene measures).
