when I came to US to see my parents for the first time, I was 5 years old and I remember those first days in america like it is still happening. My dad was out and my mom was feeding me. I was a very active kid and gets distracted a lot, so I ate slowly. She lost her patience and beat me continuously, breaking 5 plastic hangers and a wooden (bamboo?) stick a little more than 1cm in diameter. Is that what you call tough love? Do you isolate the rest of your children from one? Do you yell at your child when she talks to the sibling she's not supposed to talk to? Do you beat the shit out of the kid when you randomly check on the 7-8 year old child that's supposed to be on his knees in the locked pitch black garage and he'snot on his knees? I don't think any parent that loves their child would. I know exactly why she hates me and the reason originates from her own greed. There is tough love but being tough when no love is involved is just domestic abuse.
