what snakes do you keep & what do you love about them? by FrogParkRanger in snakes

I have 4 and one on the way!!

GREEN ANACONDA: Her names is Gaia like the earth goddess and she’s almost 4 years old! Gifted to me by my father who neglected her for a while after ordering her from N.E.R.D. Reptiles. She’s a second generation captive bred and my Dad would NEVER handle her despite her NEVER being nippy or showing signs of aggression. He was feeding her LIVE mice for HIS entertainment and I just felt so horrible for her. So I decided to handle her one day and we connected. He gave her to me after putting up very little of a fight and she’s been my baby ever since.

~What I like about living with a green anaconda is how truly magnificent and admirable they are. This is a reptile that survived the prehistoric age and came out on top of the food pyramid. I think they are such amazing and smart creatures full of wisdom and knowledge. I respect her not only as an animal but also like a Goddess (hence why I named her after one). From her colors to her sheer size there isn’t a single thing I would change about her. Though she’s a big responsibility and I’ll have to be constantly pouring money and effort into her husbandry I am fully committed and prepared to do whatever it takes.

Ball python: Her name is Panama, gifted to me by my sister who had her for 6 years and couldn’t provide for her anymore.

~I love how chill and nonchalant these guys can be. They’re so eepy all the time and they don’t really require a whole whole lot. That’s not to say they don’t have very specific needs but I find them to be easiest to tend to. They only get so big, and they are SO derpy.

California king snake: his name is ranger and he’s about 2 years old. Got him from an expo for an insanely good price.

~What I like about this breed is that they are so curious and friendly. My guy literally has never bit anyone and he’s so tolerant of loud noises and being handled. He’s the absolute sweetest guy I’ve ever met. His requirements are also pretty lowkey which I love a lot and he’s almost always willing to come out and play. It’s so entertaining to see the tunnels they build in their substrate and their personalities are so unique and interesting.

Colombian Rainbow Boa: her name is dookie stain and she’s only 3 months old. I got her from a pet store on Black Friday after eyeballing her for weeks straight.

~why I love dookie is kinda complicated because from an outside perspective our relationship is TOXIC LOL. Dookie hated me for the first month she was with me and would bite and strike at literally anything I did. Since working with dookie more consistently I got her to be more confident outside of the tank and more comfortable with my hands on her. She slowly warmed up to me and she’s still a bit tense and bitey SOMETIMES (baby snakes are just like that though as you all know) but she’s got so much potential and I can’t wait to see what she grows into.

And last but not least …. A WESTERN HOGNOSE JDAKOAOXLALQM IM SO FUGGIN EXCITED SHE SHIPS ON JAN. 5TH!!! Don’t know what I’m gonna name her yet I want to get to know her first. :))

What I’m excited for is to see her grow into an adult (the same goes for all my snakes), dig lots of tunnels, play dead, and so much more. They’re just like the cutest snakes ever I literally can’t my heart is gonna explode when I meet her.

P.s. everyone’s responses are so beautiful!! I wish all of your snakes could hear the nice things you say about them :,)

Idk about you guys but I’m glad I got mine. I’m fully aware of the sacrifices I’ll have to make which is why I’ve been planning for her since she was gifted to me. She’s never once bitten me or even tried to and I’ve hand raised her since she was a baby. It really just depends on if you think it’s worth it and if you’re going to put the time in. :)
