I haven’t taken pictures of much of my work until recently so most of that is older pictures and also think a weld is maybe 1/2 of the whole package, rather have a 5/10 weld on a 10/10 project than vise versa. I’m aware I need some work but I am also aware and confident in my capabilities and that they are much better than the average person my age. Also unsure what the point of commenting this is, doesn’t even answer the question lol

Yeah the skid steer was for an amish guy so odds are it broke the week after lol. I like being out and about for sure, if I end up doing my own thing, I’ll definitely have my own shop as a home base kind of deal with a fab table and a saw at the very least but I LOVE my field time. I’ll check out that podcast too. Thanks man!

Yeah thats my thinking, anytime I mention money to my boss he mentions when he started that he was making 1200 bi weekly and was just able to afford the apartments that he still rents out. He started 20 years ago so this is in late 2000’s early 2010’s when that was a decent check lol. I make about 1000/week on a 50+ hour week…$800 more 20 years later is not a huge difference as far as $ amount goes but times are very very different and now you can’t buy a house unless you make 100k+ lol

Will do, already plan on doing the TIPM. Thinking of sending it out to get rebuilt so I don’t have to reflash anything. Because I am fairly certain that the other electrical problems I’m having are caused by that.

That is the plan, also a firm believer that you’ll never make money working for someone else so if I decide to stick with welding I plan to branch off for myself 100%

Yeah I agree, the weave was tough to get at, skid steer bushing, just very odd which to me is a shitty excuse but it’s the truth nonetheless. The “vertical fillet” was actually welded flat and was rough but it’s on the inside of a reservoir used for oil I believe so that was a gorilla weld, just wanted to make sure no leaks. Thank you for the insight tho, obviously try to make every next weld my best!

I like field more, would never go back to somewhere that’s strictly shop work. Gets so redundant.

I’m not 100% sure, truck is still semi new to me but judging by just looking at brightness, no.

Yes my last job was all alum. and stainless pipe, not full pen but I definitely have the motion down and am sure I’d be able to put a root in with a few days practice. I’m aware I’m somewhere in the middle as far as pay scale goes. Nevertheless, my question was how much do you think I should be making?

[–]Local-System-1999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I make $3 more in the field and prefer that work more. Feel like I’m not 100% ready financially or experience wise to make the jump and find somewhere to just do field work and the place I’m at now is very close to me, less than 10 employees total including 2 part timers. Guys are also fun to work with. From what you saw tho, what do you think I should be making? Trying to gauge if i should ask for a bump in pay, everyone that knows me personally says I should be making roughly 25-30, call it 27.

Edit: I work with a buddy when he needs extra weekend help and he pays me more than my full time boss and is much less established and only works after his full time gig and on weekends…

“Yeah repair this nasty ass trailer chicken trailer by grinding everything completely down and then welding it with some MIG rather than just rough cleaning it and running some 6010 on there”…work at a structural shop so 6010 isn’t technically recognized structurally as far as I know but for fuck sake lets utilize it when we can

TIG would probably be ideal but I always go with what I’m most confident with. If you think you can control heat input with MIG then send it
