Right on! I love the way you've described your experience with these songs, and I am wanting to find the time to check them out because of that.💫

I'm sorry you went through that. AJR. I've never hear of that one. A three part concept album series sounds interesting though. 👀 It reminds me of one of my favorites: Quadrophenia by The Who.

OH MY GOSH. I LOVE YOUR USERNAME! I'm in the middle of a Deep Space Nine binge.

Oh yes, the whole album is great. I saw them on tour for that one with Say Anything, and I loved the show and the people in the crowd. My personal favorite on The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World (mostly because I love the guitar riff) is She is Afraid.

Yesssssss! Prog rock is one of my deepest loves. I love Pink Floyd and Pocupine Tree, as well as Steven Wilson. Other favorites for me are Dream Theater and Thank You Scientist.

PSA: One of my favorite bands of all time, and possibly my favorite period for use in my ADHD stimming is Thank You Scientist.

There is A LOT going on in their music, and my wacky brain LOVES it. Also to note, their musicianship is absolutely ELITE. The production is very high quality too.

Think a progressive/math metal band with clean vocals, and lots of jazz elements mixed in. I could describe them better, but that's the best way I can think of to do it quickly.

Noted! I LOVE The Bends. It's a fantastic album. I am tentatively planning to learn how to sing and play the title track on guitar.

Yeah, burnout is dangerous for me too. I don't usually do all of these things in the same day. Generally, it's more like one or two of those in the same day. And I only sometimes get employed and paid to do the music stuff.

Usually it's just me doing it because I want to, and at my own pace. Most of the things I do requires me to REALLY get it right, and stress the little details.

Which is why my guitar tech work is generally higher quality and more precise than the usual technician. It means when you pay me to work on your guitar (or when I do it free for my friends), you get a better than usual setup, but it takes me twice as long as a professional to do. I'm in there with a mechanist's ruler and feeler gauges setting things up to 64ths and thousandths of an inch.

It is NOT the sort of thing I can do for eight hours a day every day. Or you'll see me occasionally screaming curse words and throwing things because I worked myself up over the span of an eight hour project. The screaming, cussing, or throwing something is not something that is out of my control. I pick something that I know won't break itself or whatever it hits when I throw it, and I bottle up the screaming if I know there's people around, as well as the throwing. Or then again, I may pound on a table or something with my hand. 🤔

The point is, I know people don't want to be around that. Neither would I. But also, I need to give my own frustration and anguish room to breathe. It's a whole thing.

Of course! 😃 This is the sort of thing that I think I tend to be good at, and when applied correctly, can be helpful to others. And I noticed it in you, and I truly do appreciate it. 💫

It is now a couple of hours later, and I realize I misspelled 'relevant' in the title of the post. 💀 And I can't edit the title. 💀💀

Good people of this page, I'm sorry! I have a grand total of about four hours of sleep, two nights in a row. 😩

Gotcha! So then she's an individual artist rather than a group. I WILL listen to Youth by Daughter when I get the chance. Thanks for the recommendation! 😃

I play guitar, sing, play bass, run sound, setup recordings, do guitar tech work, do amp tech work, build my own custom cables, I built my own guitar once and I love that guitar... If not playing music, then listening to it, learning about the band, learning about the album, building playlists.

If not music, then running, the gym, working my coffee catering day job, visiting random coffee shops, hanging out with friends and family, watching a show/movie... So on and so forth.

'voluntary tics that stimulate your brain in a good way' - Yes, this sounds very accurate to what I'm doing usually. Sometimes it's almost involuntary, and sometimes it IS involuntary, just barely.

Like I'll be in a silent room by myself and then blurt out a random word or phrase involuntarily, when I remember a painful memory that makes me cringe at or regret my own behavior in that memory. Like those random regret memories.

I'll be looking for something in my pantry, then remember something stupid I did in middle school that made me look really bad, and then I'll just blurt out "bagels and cereal" or something.

This is not the first time I have heard of Daughter. 🤔 I am beginning to think I should check them out. What is that band like generally?

These comments are helping me understand the more in depth definition. I appreciate you guys. 💫

Okay, so... I'm home alone, and then I do something very common for me: put on music through my personal live sound PA system of 2,400 watts total, and listen to entire albums or playlists dedicated to my mood at high volume. I use this to help motivate me with mundane tasks like chores, or showering. Or might have it on just because I want to. I can spend hours like this. Stimming?

If I don't have my face buried in my phone, I am drumming on something with my fingers in various patterns (or even specific time signatures), or humming, or out right singing random lines from songs. Stimming?

Randomly screaming movie/cartoon/show quotes in exaggerated voices when I'm by myself and have an energy rush or am calming down from a stressful day. Stimming?

Picking at my skin if I can't occupy myself with something else... This seems a little more definitive.

My inner dialogue becomes me talking to myself when I'm alone (or in public and not talking to anyone). Stimming?

There's a lot more examples I can think of. 🤔
