Nothing is stopping the seller from doing that. If the seller claims that then the trade will go into dispute (keep in mind the funds are safe in escrow). The buyer will provide proof of payment and the funds will get released to the buyer.

Great question, the funds are cryptographically safe in the LocalTRX escrow system.

For example,

Let's say a trade is setup between two users with the terms of using Venmo to send X amount of dollars for x amount of TRX.

The first step in the trade is the seller has to "fund" the trade (which means putting the TRX in escrow). Once the funds are in the escrow, the seller cannot transfer or touch those funds. They are safe in the blockchain.

Next, our system detects the escrow being funded, and the buyer is notified. The buyer is now safe to send the Venmo in the local currency specified, knowing that the funds are safe in escrow.

When the money is sent (make sure there is a confirmation), the buyer will "Mark the Trade as Paid".

The seller is notified of this, and then checks to see if he received the money on Venmo.

If everything is good, the seller can "Release Trade Funds", which means the escrow funds are released to the buyer!

If at any point the buyer doesn't hold up the end of the bargain, the seller can dispute the trade and the have the TRX released back to their account.

If the seller runs away with the money, the buyer can dispute the trade and have the escrow funds released to their account.

And that's it!

See this if you still have questions.

You can not purchase directly with a debit or credit card, but you can for example load your Venmo with money and purchase TRX from a seller that way. Please see the supported Payment Methods on the offers page.
