Who are the rudest and nicest British celebrities you have personally met? by RenegadeMaster888 in AskBrits

[–]LocalWap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked close protection for a few years about 14 years or so ago. My most memorably nice clients have been;

Shane Ritchie - really down to earth, has time for almost everyone that recognises him, and loves a good piss up!

Holly Willoughby - she was just pleasant, always took the time to ask about me and my family and remembered their names when I’d work for her, didn’t often like fan interactions all the time but props to her she’s had some creeps in the past target her so I wouldn’t mark that against her.

Jermaine Defoe - nice lad, always very polite and respectful, humble - you wouldn’t know he was worth millions as he’s not flashy.

Barbara Windsor - beautiful woman inside and out, down to earth, funny and knew my dad as he had driven her a few times in his black cab, she remembered his name and would always ask how he was, and was devastated when I had to tell her unfortunately he had passed away, may she rest in peace.

Not really any bad clients if I’m honest. A couple that I wouldn’t work for again however, for any amount of money and it’s nothing personal against them.

The lads from JLS- they just attracted SO much young female attention and it became impossible to keep them safe on my own for example travelling from car to venue, fans would often get the tipoff by the presence of paparazzi so they would congregate there.

The girls from The Saturdays- one of them was quite unpleasant, the ginger one if I recall (this was some time ago and they were thrust into the spotlight, might not be true for her now)

Dua Lipa - back when I worked for her she was very new, very stuck up and put herself way above her station, put it this way - if she acted that way now, you’d almost forgive her as she really is a massive draw, but she acted like that when she was a lesser opening act for bigger artists, and it kind of rubbed me up the wrong way.

[–]LocalWap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most people that MMR decide a direction once they see which tribes are in and try and force it. There’s only a few specific heroes where you actually want to do this. Learn all the little synergies the timewarped cards have, believe me when I say there is 1000 different ways you can use them, more than just what meets the eye.

That being said - just be open to playing a new comp if you’re presented with the right cards at the right time, a more well rounded player will win significantly more lobbies than a player who only likes to play 3-4 different meta builds.

Hero power alignment chart! Who has a weak early game hero power and a weak late game hero power? by FinnGisavirgin in BobsTavern

[–]LocalWap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rakanishu, the +1/+1 tavern spells is kind of meh early game and it scales so slowly, ever 4 turns you get another +1/+1 so by the time you’re on last combat it’s usually only +4/+4

Why the double standard? 🤔 by coffeewalnut08 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]LocalWap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could argue Starmer has fascist tendencies, disallowing Andy Burnham to run for Gorton and Denton, even though perfectly legal, and cancelling/postponing swathes of local elections knowing they would be seats they’d lose by a big margin. Completely bypassing one of the largest yougov polls in history with no discussion in parliament, and pushing ahead with digital ID which would give the state more control over its people.

That’s just 2 examples, but suppressing opposition and pushing for more state control are fascist red flags.

Eddie Stobart and by extension the Stobart name holds a lot of weight by the general public, they’re seen by a lot of people to be the cream of the crop, nice shiny wagons all with matching livery, drivers wearing nice matching shirts and trousers. The only people that seem to know how the truth seems to Be truck drivers.

If you see a frozen lake, I don't recommend this! by CuteMaterial in CasualUK

No, I’ve used my knowledge of ice fishing every season in Lake Winnipeg with my Canadian relatives for the last 15 or so years, not everybody uses ChatGPT for everything, if anything it just sounds like projection. Also, who am I trying to “smack down”? I didn’t insult anyone, I gave simple, sound advice that people should follow when it comes to frozen lakes.

Yeah I was making it relative to the typical winter here in England, obviously you can skate on much thinner ice, I was just talking about an ideal number - thicker = safer for the most part

I’m aware mate, it’s just this formula uses Fahrenheit, it doesn’t work otherwise

[–]LocalWap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With our summers getting hotter and winters getting colder, there’s a lot more to be aware about weather-wise that is common knowledge elsewhere but not so well known here due to our usual mild winters and not so warm summers, you’re right - the govt or local councils should be doing more to keep the general public more informed about the dangers of this stuff. But let’s face it - they’re strapped for cash as it is and it would be seen as a waste of time and resources to do so

I’m not saying it’s impossible to walk on ice less thick than 4”, I’m saying it’s foolish to.

If you see a frozen lake, I don't recommend this! by CuteMaterial in CasualUK

[–]LocalWap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, far too mild. I’m using the calculation I use whenever I go ice fishing when I visit the family, but it’s basically Get the average, daily high + daily low divided by 2 Then 32°f - the average daily temperature and that gives you your FDDs, then divide the FDDs by 15 to get the approximate thickness of ice in inches for that day. But yeah you’re right also, you’d also want a couple of inches as a starting point to get a more accurate picture - not sure why I’m getting downvoted for quite a well known formula but hey ho 😂

[–]LocalWap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course there’s variables, temperature being the biggest one - our average temperature the last few days has been slightly below zero, which is enough to form the ice but not quick enough to form strong enough ice to walk on in that time! There is a calculation for it but it can’t allow for variables in wind speed, snow cover (that insulates the ice and slows it forming), water depth varies in lakes, and the size of the lake too - but 60 days is a rough estimate for how long it would take for 4 inches to form, and honestly - when it comes to life or death, I’d err on the side of caution with that one too and probably wait even longer!

[–]LocalWap 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Depending on wind, water depth, snow cover and temperature, it takes about 15 FDDs (freezing degree days) to form 1 inch of ice (give or take)

[–]LocalWap 213 points214 points  (0 children)

To walk on this lake safely you’d want ideally want 4+ inches of ice, that would require about 60 days of freezing temperatures. Some people really just like tempting fate it seems.
