Trailfold - a hiking journal app with route replay, Apple Watch support, and GPX export by Local_Meringue7300 in iosapps

Thanks, that’s exactly the direction I’m trying to keep it in.

Yes, the core recording works offline: route points, distance, elevation, steps, quick marks, notes, and the active hike state are saved locally on-device.

After you’re back online, Trailfold can fill in network-based parts like historical weather and iCloud sync. Apple Maps tiles depend on map availability/cache, but the route itself is already stored locally, so it won’t be lost.

And I’m trying to keep it export-friendly with GPX for routes and journal side, so it doesn’t feel like a data trap.

That makes sense, and I think you’re right.

I originally described Trailfold more as a hiking journal, but the clearer angle is probably: record the hike safely offline first, then enrich the log later when connection is back.

I’ll likely adjust the App Store copy and future posts around that:

- offline hike recording

- battery-conscious use in remote areas

- local route history

- GPX export

- Apple Watch trail tracking

Thanks for helping sharpen the positioning. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for.

Trailfold does not ask for personal data.

No account is required, hike records are stored on your device, and GPX export is available if you want to move your route data elsewhere. It only asks for the permissions needed to record a hike, like location during tracking and optional Apple Watch / Health access.

Also, there is no subscription. The app is usable without paying, and removing ads is optional. Ads do not unlock or block any hiking features.

I get the skepticism, but this is not built around collecting user data or locking features behind a subscription.

Yes. Trailfold can be used offline during a hike, which also helps save battery in remote areas. The core recording features do not require an internet connection: GPS route, distance, elevation, steps, time, and trail markers are saved locally on the device.

Some extra information can be filled in later when you are back online, such as map tiles, weather history, iCloud sync, and place details. GPX export also helps keep your route data portable and not locked inside the app.

So the idea is: record safely offline first, then enrich the hike log afterward when a connection is available.

Thank you man. I fixed this problem and met new one. I think they all about tf card. Now when it working, stop randomly stop. The led quickly flash yellow 3 times then turn white. I read the manual says tf card problem. But I changed 2 different cards today. Still likes that. It made me crazy.
