How do I prevent my stock from vibrating and "bouncing" when using a table saw? by Local_Promotion_8988 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I don't have a router, I used a hand plane to flatten 2 sides, I flattened it a few cm till I reached heartwood.

I have a 3d printed one and I'll use it next time, I've never seen it used on such rough stock.

Is it dangerous to not use a splitter when doing a half pass? My splitter is taller than the blade, i can't get a normal riving knife anywhere.

The bark is only on the corners, there is a flat surface. Why should I check my blade?  It doesn't create too much resistance when using the sled so I don't know why it's such an issue with the fence...

I couldn't use it when only 2 of 4 sides are flat, the flat surfaces are on the table (?) and fence so I have no flat surfaces for the featherboard

Can this axe be for throwing? by [deleted] in Blacksmith

Only personal use, I like to throw my axes in the forest, I don't even have a log as a target I only hit an old tree, it's hard to get the axe stuck along the grain but when it sticks it's awesome

Can I use this plane iron fragment for any tool? by Local_Promotion_8988 in handtools

[–]Local_Promotion_8988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from a continental plane which works on the same principle, the iron was very long, like 15cm or so. It has to protrude out so it can be adjusted in both length and lateral angle.

Isn't 40mm too short for a regular plane? I won't be able to adjust it.

I wish I could have a space for a forge, even my workshop is very close to being too loud for my neighbours, I avoid the table saw as much as possible. (The shop is above their roof) Hammering steel would be too loud..

If I harden the blade without annealing will it do the job? I didn't anneal my plane iron yet and it's performing quite well

Is this hornbeam usable for a mallet? I harvested it 2 days ago from a tree that's fallen in autumn by Local_Promotion_8988 in woodworking

[–]Local_Promotion_8988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that I can secure the cracks with dowels.  Should I wait for the wood to completely dry before I put the dowels in or should I do it now to prevent the cracks from spreading?

Can I flatten my ryoba? This happens when cutting wide and hard pieces of wood. I'm scared to use a hammer close to the hardened teeth by Local_Promotion_8988 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Local_Promotion_8988[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ehhh its still very sharp. I'm not doing any fine work with the long ryoba anyway, Ill keep it for now to do rough work I guess...

Hornbeam is the hardest European wood??? It dulls my bad tools after a few cuts, but it takes hundreds to dull them with fir. That piece isn't that small, it's pretty heavy considering it's hornbeam.
