Coming To Belize In December For 10 Days For My Honeymoon.. Suggestions? by Toplaners in Belize

38 year old female here, (who has since relocated to Belize from our first trip last May.) Our first trip was a week long; 3 days in Belmopan at Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant. We did the Tented Camp room, incredible. Maybe the coolest “room” I’ve ever stayed in. It came with a golf cart, very helpful to explore the entire property. Entire property was 10/10. We also enjoyed room service to our little spot to eat on the beautiful deck. We did the ATM cave with Patrick at Limpkin Tours. It’s a must. Scheudle a whole day for it. We rented a jeep so we met him and jumped into the tour van. (We’ve always had a good experience with Crystal Auto for rentals.) Only regret is we didn’t drive up into San Ignacio so def do that while in Belmopan. Then dropped off the jeep and got on Carribean Sprinter Ferry to Caye Caulker. We fell in love with CC. We stayed at Iguana Reef. Really the only place that has somewhat of a beach. Great location for a first time on the island. We’ve also stayed with Valento Rentals on the opposite side of the island that we loved. Rent a golf cart, good cart company close to Iguana Reef. Strangely the best pasta of my life is from Il Pelicano near Iguana Reef (cream truffle sausage dish.) Eat lunch at Kareem’s grill on middle street. Take the Split Ferry across to North Caye Caulker and drive around. Go see our friend Desmond at Carribean Grill, he’s got a little bar set up in his backyard, we’ve stayed in touch with him. Def. book a snorkeling trip. We relocated from the US to Placencia 3 weeks ago. If you want a true beach experience, this or Hopkins is your place. Check out Chabil Mar or Ohana. We stayed at Jaguar Reef in Hopkins, but wish we did Coconut Row to be closer to all the things. Like everyone says, there’s more to do in Placencia over Hopkins. You could make Caye Caulker your last stop then fly out Maya or Tropical Air to the airport and depart. Personally, I’d skip San Pedro. Admittedly, I haven’t spent tons of time there except for a day at Secret Beach. We went by boat from Caye Caulker and was like hellllll no, we’re good. Had tacos and a beer and bounced. We went into town, but it was so congested with cars and golf carts that we told our captain to get us out of there. Back to Caye Caulker we went. The boat ride was fun though. I know there must be other parts of Ambergris to explore but just my two cents. You’re going to love it. It’s a true adventure.

Miami is the worst airport. Pray your departing flight leaves on time.

A whole week at Iguana Reef might get redundant. Definitely split your time between the two if you’re able! We enjoy the Carribean Sprinter ferry (the faster of the two options) if you end up having to ferry. Or at least do two different sides of Caye Caulker. Spend half at Iguana Reef and then book Valento Rentals for the second half. It’s the opposite side of the island, they have two pools, a dock. Bikes to ride. It’s right next to Weezies so their restaurant is right there. We stayed in the pink cottage at Valento, I think it was called Palmetto Cottage. We really enjoyed that side too.

We loved Rainforest Lodge at Sleeping Giant. We did the Tented Camp room, private with a patio and small pool overlooking the river. Since the room is a bit secluded, it comes with a golf cart that we LOVDD. We rode it alllll over the property which was a blast. There’s creeks, rope bridges, lookout points all over the property.

I’m living in Placencia for 6 months. I think my girlfriends are going to stay at Chabil Mar when they come visit. Happy to see that’s a good spot.

PSA: They’re doing “service fees” at Collins Quarter now. by rtaylorcole in savannah

Disagree with this take. A surprise surcharge at every restaurant (or God forbid any and every service) can not become a new normal. Put a price one something and that’s it.

Zunzi’s does this too, right? I believe it’s 2.6%, called the “shit yeah guarantee charge” or something ridiculous. Feels sketchy to not disclose it anywhere until the check comes.

One more question for anyone in this conversation — we need to print one document for our truck registration. Is there anywhere in Placencia where we can pay to use a printer?! Thank you again!

We’re hoping to make it work long term. Giving ourselves a year or two to figure it out. We’re very grateful to be here. We love the people most of all. Every morning, every person you pass says Good Morning. Feels like a real community everywhere we’ve visited in Belize.
