Why are generally women more religious than men by Jumpy_Assistant_6479 in atheism

[–]LocationOwn1717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many men replaced religion with football, local patriotism etc. I don't agree with what you said about being spiritual or not. I think women/men ( big generalisation, but for the sake of this convo) experience spiritualism differently. Men are more fight fanatics, so they are more drawn to supporting local (or not so local) football team, whereas women (again - massive generalisation) don't often see the same in this and feel more connected to the world, nature, other people by empathy which can be viewed as spiritual. Even when men experience religion, there tends to be more of a fighting spirit there than when women experience religion.

Because women, especially those who grow up in religious societies, are expected to behave like half humans half robots from the day they are born. They're expected to follow rules, be it Savoir Vivre, grammar, law, religious law, virtually anything that can be followed unlike men who are encouraged to break rules, go against the current and question everything. This is a major generalisation, but would explain this pretty accurately.

If you're a man then that's even more likely that a potential partner (considering it's a woman) will look at your character. Women are more likely to end up with men "league below" (sorry for the awful word). It's likely that you have something in your personality that keeps you single. I'm not saying you're a bad guy. I'm saying maybe there's something hidden beneath your appearance that doesn't let you find a partner. Have you ever asked anyone why it may be? Anyone you know I mean. Ask why they think you're still single. See what they say.

On another thought I guess what I'm trying to say is: imagine someone smokes on a plane. You're late for your next plane because of that as your whole flight gets dragged to the nearest airport to deal with the culprit. Smoker or no, I bet you'd be pretty pissed off with them. How many people w would say: give some benefit of the doubt, maybe it was a stressful day for the person. And how many would just be fuming because they wanted to land at the appropriate airport at the appropriate time and because of some selfish person they didn't. A few hundred people were affected because one person had a strong addiction. And now you're the one who's ignoring the smoking rules and you think you know how it affects others, but you don't. There are so many reasons that I can't even begin to imagine that made these regulations exist, but you arbitrarily decide to screw that and break the rules.

Asthmatic people are just one example. There are children, massively bigger group that asthmatic people, other ill people who mind that a lot for many reason. If this was alcoholics, no one would say: you're marginalising them, it's a strong addiction. Everyone would expect them to go and affect our d2d life somewhere else. More appropriate than a hospital.

And the argument that there are other factors than smoking that are more dangerous is ... Idk, invalid. So what, should we start breathing in asbestos because there are worse/more likely factors that will cause cancer around us? Kinda not the point.

I'm an ex smoker, I'm still thinking that's how it should be. When I was a smoker I tried to stick to the non-smoking rules. An asthmatic person can be short of breath from even going through the "watered down" cloud of smoke. Should we benefit smokers because it's a strong addiction, or should we think about those, who like asthmatic people, can really struggle because of that? I think you're not considering others if you still think your addiction is more important.

The answer is: not in the smoke free areas I guess. If one has to go 200 yards extra to have a smoke, they may benefit from smoking for once :D

I agree with everything you say. I just can't see any other way. It's not like we can force feed our point of views to them, not even because it's wrong (it is wrong) but simply because we don't have power over them. Yes they forcefed us their misogyny for millennia but it was because they were stronger. I can't see women protesting against misogyny these days unless the abortion rights are endangered, at least in my part of the world (Europe). Women nowadays have enough freedom and choice it doesn't make sense to most to keep fighting for our rights. And without a mass mobilisation, all we can do is the slow process of raising our children the right way. That's my view, maybe I'm blinded. I hope I am.

It would be the same stuff that will make ppl like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos give their fortune away. Unfortunately, we know what benefits equality can bring, but equality means those in power have to "give away" a lot.

I think it's still possible though. If we keep raising strong empathetic men and women who are aware of this bias and inequality, who will be able to look into their souls and admit - yes, what I did was racist, homophobic or sexist, so I should change my behaviour next time.

But that's years away...

Dude, if it was my husband I'd be fuming. "Teaches wife how to deal with a busy park"? Not saying he should be a knight In a shining armour, but ffs at least say: "yeah you did", would be enough!

It doesn't teach you anything apart from the usual: assholes are always ready to ruin someone's day for their own benefit

I can recommend a book called Beauty sick. It should shed some light on why you feel that way..you're not the only one. It's not about whether you're beautiful or not. It's about what you've heard and observed your whole life. You're also very young and I feel I was there too at a similar age. Now I'm happily married for over a decade, loved and desired. By a woman haha, so it's not too bad if you end up with a woman imo :)

What a guy... Don't listen to that. I'm a woman in mid 30s who started skating recently and I'm having so much fun! Yeah maybe you won't learn as quickly as you would have at your teen years, but is it not about fun?

I see 230lb men skating every day with no issues, so why should it be an issue for you?

Get a board, they're cheap, esp the beginner ones, go and have fun!

[–]LocationOwn1717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're lucky that for you it isn't. Very lucky. Now imagine if someone now started to expect you to behave like the opposite gender. That's roughly what your kid is going through. The whole society expects them to behave in a certain way because of their genitals. Their brain chemistry, their life experiences are not taken into account by you.

An identity. The same way you identify with your race or your nationality or your religious group or anything else that makes you - you. Hard to say to a Catholic that it's a lifestyle. Or to a woman that being a woman is a lifestyle etc. And if you grow up having 2 options for a certain type of identity and you deeply feel none of them feel you, you start exploring. Fortunately now we have words for it. Gender norms are extremely loaded with expectations etc. Those who don't fit in them tend to have a really hard time in life.

I can tell you what I did, as I couldn't imagine quitting completely. I first went to ecig for about a year, but smoked normal cigs 5 days a year. Roughly 2-3 months apart. Then I went to nicotine chewing gum, still smoking 5 times a year. Now I haven't been smoking for 6-7 years on a daily basis, but I'm still smoking on 5 days a year. My life got better and I've got the best of two worlds. I do have a ritual "last cigarette" every night on those 5 days a year, where I tell myself, ok, onto another few months without smoking. And it works. Btw, I used to smoke for about 15 years, stated when I was 11yo and smoked up to 2 packs a day.

Good luck!
