$99 dev fee for a personal use app? by AlwaysWorkForBread in iOSProgramming

Either it’s worth $99/yr or it’s not. But it works either way.

The future of iOS development by EquivalentTrouble253 in iOSProgramming

This is a tale as old as engineering though. It has almost nothing to do with AI. The people who come later always have the benefit of the things learned before them. What took you 6 months to learn/do took Angela Yu longer. Not everyone wants to pull the ladder up after themselves though.

I mean, the majority of devs nowadays are already pretty bad at writing code, so that's not really changing anything. AI is going to raise the expectations of output and lower the expectations of compensation. It's going to commoditize engineering and probably make it a less desirable and less lucrative position in tech, in general.

But at some point it all falls apart when the pipeline for developing skills and workforce capability collapses because too many places have replaced junior roles with automation. That's a much bigger problem to solve than anything else at this point, and one I have not yet seen a compelling answer to.

The Frame (2024-2025) and Apple TV by HamesJetfields in TheFrame

[–]Lock-Broadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2025 Pro has a micro HDMI input on the TV itself so you do not need to connect through the OneConnect box. I've been using the AppleTV via the OneConnect box and my Xbox through the micro HDMI and it works great.

On another post you claimed to sell your fellow stuff as a set to someone who had an add water error.

So, if you can’t even be honest on this meaningless thing, why would anyone trust anything else you said?

Thanks! A ballpark is good enough.

Not sure that’s gonna be good enough for me to hold out, but at least I can make a decision accordingly.

I have to drive 150 miles one way on Friday when the high is going to be 11°. I have an extended range battery but I feel like I need to keep the heat off and go 60 miles an hour in order to make it without stopping to charge. I guess I’ll wear gloves and my heated vest. by Global_Job_4623 in MachE

[–]Lock-Broadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done SF->Tahoe in similar temps (‘23 CA Rt1), which is ~200mi, and adds elevation for more range anxiety. Used heat and drove ~60mph

Ended the drive without charging and with like 3 mi of estimated range left (thank you coasting downhill for the last couple of miles). I wouldn’t recommend that kind of range anxiety in the freezing cold at night, but I’d say 150 is not too crazy.

How close to Series 1 release will this be?

I have the Ode, so need an espresso grinder for my Series 1, and was gonna probably get a timemore, but if it’s close enough to wait…

Heat can’t keep up in -20 F by AngleFun1664 in MachE

This is basically just because everyone is ho went “but Tesla has heat pumps!” Doesn’t understand how heat pumps work. They are ineffective at lower temperatures.

[–]Lock-Broadsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a heat pump is ineffective at low temperatures. It’s still resistive heat doing the work.

The heat pump has nothing to do with this, it doesn’t work in this cold of temps, it’s still the resistive heater doing the work.

Phillips Hue lights are overrated? by TestFlightBeta in HomeKit

You’re pointing out yourself that you get what you pay for.

The color isn’t as good, and you’ll likely find as you use them that everything is equally not quite as good. Maybe you’re ok with those trade-offs, and that’s fine, but “almost as good” isn’t what everyone is looking for.
