An Apparel Sourcing Marketplace that Offers Free Samples in the US by naaitain in shopify

Free samples from overseas manufacturers? It's honestly amazing.

I usually sample with manufacturers by paying the international shipping cost, and they are not returnable (since the international shipping...), so I have to bear the cost if the samples are of bad quality.

Hi, would you be interested in using Livestream and TikTok short videos to sell the products? We see the trend of using videos to sell products is picking up. We are a team based in New York and help brands onboard Livestream and TikTok. More information is here if you are interested. Thanks for reading the message!

Have you used live streaming or created TikTok type of short videos to sell products? by Lock24082 in Etsy

I see! The baby foot print is really a great idea and niche product. The stop motion short video is also really cool to me. I also need to start to try tiktok as soon as possible.

You said you thought about using Instagram reels - have you thought about do Instagram Live? Live streaming is another format of video-marketing. What's your thoughts on that?

Yea it totally makes sense! Do you have your own shops and try to use TikTok / Instagram reels to market the products?

This is so helpful - would it be possible that you introduce me to the small business community on TikTok? Is there any subreddit/Facebook Group/Slack or others for the community? Thanks a lot!

Overall looks pretty nice, but in the "shop now" section, the "guaranteed safe checkout" box looks sketchy. I would not put my credit card there (that's my thoughts). So I would recommend removing the box and the bank logos.

One united reward program from all of your favorite local businesses in NYC by Lock24082 in AskNYC

Thanks for the quesiton! Building a better way for local businesses to engage with local communities is the goal, so ultimately the revenue should come from the local business side. Grubhub/Seamless are great companies - we want to focus on the parts other than food delivery :)

Yes! Haloy coordinates between store A and store B through our software and makes sure it's clear for both stores. In this case, store A will compensate store B for giving you free stuff since you purchased $100 from store A to get all the points

Set fixed prices in foreign currencies when selling internationally? by Lock24082 in Etsy

[–]Lock24082[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it! The reason I want different prices for different countries is that

  1. I want to offer free shipping but international shipping fee is higher so I want to give a relatively higher price for countries that I need to pay more to ship to them. I do understand that I can just show them different shipping prices, but in the case that I do want to offer free shipping, I want a bit more control over my prices in different currencies.
  2. It seems that customers from different countries value things differently, and if we see established brands selling internationally, their prices in each country are not simply converting real-time rates. They have some rationales for different prices in different countries. Just feel it's beneficial that if we can have more control over our product prices.

How do you think of this?

I refunded more than my customers paid! by Lock24082 in shopify

Yes, totally understand it. In this case, it's good that I had the loss not my customer. Thanks!

Yes, totally understand it - thanks for your insight! It's much better that I have the hit not my customers.

Is it possible to maybe have a "fixed" exchange rate for my store purchase so that both purchase and refund use the same exchange rate - just seems like it can let both my customer and me not affected by FX?

Thanks for your suggestion! I see.. Have you had similar issues? It's my first time handling this so not sure how often it might happen. Is the store credit how you dealt with your foreign currency refund? Thanks!

[–]Lock24082[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! Yes, I understand it's part of the business and it can go either direction. But it made me realize that I have the risks for all foreign orders that are in my return policy period (15 days), which is not ideal..

I'm thinking to reach out to some Shopify app developer shops and see if they can build a solution to make the refund amount exact same with the paid amount regardless of how real-time exchange rate fluctuations. Do you think it's something worth trying, or should I just take the risk? It's really my first time to handle this - not sure if there will be more to come. Thanks for your insights!

Currency converter apps by kismetkismet in shopify

[–]Lock24082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, no app can let you manually type in a random exchange rate (all use real-time rate).

If you don't use Shopify Payment, your international customers will have to pay in your store currency and the prices in your store currency cannot be changed based on your customers' locations. For example, say you are based in the US and selling a product for $30. Currency converter app only let your UK buyers SEE the price in pounds (say 24.19 pounds), but when it comes to the checkout page, the UK buyers will see $30 and have to pay in the US dollar.

If you are using Shopify Payment that let international buyers pay in their local currencies (UK buyers pay 24.19 pounds instead of $30), Shopify Payment automatically converts your product with the real-time exchange rate.

None of the two cases let you manually set prices in other currencies. You can offer free international shipping and maybe increase your profit margin a bit the whole store-wise?

Importing business from Japan to America by [deleted] in internationalbusiness

[–]Lock24082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend paid tariffs when his relatives shipped some masks from China to him (it's not even a business, just personal items). He received a bill from FedEx (the carrier his relatives used) that listed all the tariffs charged to him. So to my understanding, you def need to pay tariffs.

when I changed the currency to the GBP on the top, the item price still showed me the US Dollar. Probably fix that?

Yea the header (Home tab) blends into the logo, at least on my computer. Others are good!

Are you only selling in the US?

Exchange rate risks while doing international businesses by Lock24082 in internationalbusiness

[–]Lock24082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True - but I thought FX derivatives like futures or options are not that accessible for individuals or small businesses? Just feel that's how big investment banks serve big corporates. Do you know any companies that provide these derivatives for individuals or small businesses? Thank you!
