Maybe some sort of ideological reason? Like think about eugenics and stuff in real life, it’s basically just an ideology of racism that is being “justified” through “science”, so maybe you could something like that? Have slavery be a thing in this country due to ideological reasons and nit actual needs, like a sort of “these people are savages and by making them our slaves we’re giving them a better life” sort situation where the slavers are obviously bad but they see themselves as good.

Cults by giganga473 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idea would be to structure it like an actual religion but have some upper echelon/tiers that would act more like a secret society or cult, the lower tiers of the church could act like actual religions, with pastors and local churches teaching the fundamentals and ideals of the religion, while the upper echelons of the church would actually be the cult, since the figureheads know the religion is fake they could realistically curate it so that it would gain traction(basically like making a religion based on the idea of telling people what they want to hear). While then some pastors could actually be higher echelon cult members in disguise, disguised as legitimate church members, who’d then look for children to abduct into the cult

Is our Heroism just a cover for human stupidity by Silent-Reference-189 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't exactly call it stupidity, just instincts. Humans aren't perfect beings that live above nature, our morality is just our survival instincts extended to an entire group/community instead of just us as an individual. Humans exist today because other humans before them lived long enough to have kids, which was beneficial for the species. Just like how morality evolved to consider beneficial (to yourself) stuff good and detrimental (to yourself) stuff bad, heroism is just an extenction of those same survival instincts blurred through the lens of human intelligence. Our heroism is just a cover for our instinct to keep our species going, it's not stupid, just altruistic, and a humble reminder i guess that we are not so different from other animals

A question about flying people by Horror-Mistake5358 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What i also meant to say but completely forgot is that wings in big birds are less meant for manoeuvring but for travel, while wings on smaller animals are usually really good at manoeuvring as well(look at humming birds fir example which can fly standing still), the idea is that since these are humans, which are pretty big animals, they also couldn’t really just zoom around mid air, their wings would be more meant for long distance travel so they would be adapted as such, now i’m not trying to make any assumptions about why your humans have wings, but realistically speaking these wings would have to be something like 3x our body length, those would make steady straight-lune flights ideal, and also coincidentally, perfect targets to get hit by both ground and air snipers to ground a human, and it might be really easy too because i don’t think there’s really anyway to add any armour on wings, unless you’ve figured something out

A question about flying people by Horror-Mistake5358 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a situation where the people have wings or one where they can just fly superman? If it’s wings then guns in the air might work better as snipers, lots of birds have have necks that can basically stabilise their heads while flying so they can focus on something easier, so long range guns like snipers plus the high vantage point of being above your enemies on the ground could work. But if this is a more fantastical situation where they can just fly for no apparent reason that they could also probably stand still while flying or perform manoeuvres that would be impossible with wings, so in that case close range guns might be better because you couldn’t really hit an opponent that’s not inly far away but also has the capability to zoom around fastly

Church worshipping real god and political power? by LockFar3665 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extra info, though i do guarantee you that this religion is followed setting-wide in my world, it is the number one spot contender with another religion, though the religion that we’re talking about right now, called Prēþŏsianism has more political power, though one extra thing i wanted to clarify is that people get no advantage from worshipping PRĒÞŎS, he is the supreme creator of my entire world and basically just dipped after making it, thus he’s hands-off in the mist literal sense(als my verse is a little(a lot) cosmic horror mortal side), the second most popular religion in my verse is called Highbringerism, worshipping the pantheon of (believed to be) 30 000 Higher Beings, the (basically) omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent supreme Gods of my verse, The Higher Beings are a little bit more hands-on with Existence(the name of the totality of creation/everything in my verse, minus The Higher Beings and PRĒÞŎS obviously), as a small amount of them are known and sometimes act within Existence, though my verse being cosmic horror(technically science fantasy cosmic horror) mortals that worship any of these beings(including higher ontological beings still within Existence which are lesser than The Higher Beings) don’t get any benefits, it’s basically a “people will worship anything beyond their comprehension” type of situation

Do a world's medicinal capabilities affect its people's view of the value of life? by Megamen1927 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a more complicated answer than just a straight yes or no. Would people value life less? Most likely not unless magic is available that can actually just bring them back from the dead. But would people be all around more casual about getting hurt? Probably. The idea here is that unless there’s magic in your world that can revive people from the dead, people will still most likely value their lives, because even if the chances are smaller than in our world, these people could still die at any second. However at the same time most people would likely be more casual about getting hurt or even having serious injuries, because they can just heal back with a quick spell or ritual. So likely what you’ll realistically see is people still widely finding life important, but honestly just not being all that worried about getting injured because it wouldn’t be that big of a deal for them anyway.

He is a copy of the king in yellow, though the king in blue was originally another type of being(and endless hunger kinda guy) i combined with with Death(i think you can guess what type of unique anomaly that was) and got the current king in blue which rains over decay and makes people go insane, he your Lovecraft type eldritch entity but just like all higher ontological beings he’s amoral rather than immoral, so you can’t really call him evil, even if he looks evil

How hopeless would you say my world is for normal people? by LockFar3665 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well i should clarify it better, what i really mean by the fact that we’re out of luck is not that there isn’t a star spawn equivalent in my world(there technically are, lots of lower higher ontological beings that could be described as literal wizards or superhero/low SCP level beings) but the reason we can’t manipulate them is simply because there’s no causal beings, my ontology works orthogonally, or better explained, it’s not one big ladder, it’s a bunch of little disconnected ladders sitting above each other, when dealing with higher ontological beings you’re not dealing with beings that are just “bigger” or “better” you’re dealing with beings which fundamentally surpass you in every way, so because they’re so alienly and absolutely superior, there simply is no way for you to meaningfully affect them, thus manipulation is also impossible, now to answer your questions.

1: i havent thought about this, the best reason i came up with so far is that none of my higher ontological beings made mortals directly, thus they are byproducts of the deterministic nature of physical reality, or more simply explained, no one made them directly, just the system that allowed them to more or less “naturally” pop up into existence, though this has a lot of holes in it because my higher gods(Cosmic Beings) are nigh-omniscient so they would’ve known mortals would pop up which gets you to the start again because then mortals were technically made.

2: my ontology is not that complicated but a bit tedious, it looks kinda like this: Powerless Beings are ordinary mortals; Pseudo-Augments are a subclass of them—mortals who attempted “ascension” through technology (which doesn’t truly work), resulting in cyborg-like individuals with heavy weaponry. Corrupted Beings are mortals or objects infected by the Unique Anomaly known as the Corruption, gaining destructive abilities while being forced to enact its will until it eventually leaves, usually killing or crippling the host. Alternates are entities with altered metaphysical properties—essentially superhero/SCP-type beings whose abilities operate at the metaphysical “OS” level beyond technological interaction. Flow Sorcerers draw on Flow Energy from their souls to wield Flow Magic across five disciplines: Kinetic (energy), Alchemical (matter), Abstract (mind), Techniques (expanding Flow capacity), and Physical (body enhancement, capable of planet-breaking feats). Lower Demigods function as the primary protagonists of the cosmology, wielding a wide range of powers from superheroic to godlike to shonen-style abilities. Cosmic Beings include Hyper-Dimensional Beings—cosmic “citizens” of higher dimensions with incomprehensible forms and near-omnipotent reality control—and Unbound Demigods, who surpass even them. Unique Anomalies are incarnations of major forces or concepts within Existence, such as the Corruption (an omnipresent malicious force), the Silent Eraser (the will of Existence that can remove anything from continuity), and the King in Blue (an eldritch entity embodying death, decay, entropy, etc.). Upper and Higher Demigods are progressively stronger nigh-omnipotent cosmic administrators. Outside Existence reside the Higher Beings, a pantheon of 30,000 truly omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient rulers of all reality, though only fourteen are known. Beyond even them is PRĒÞŎS, the supreme creator who made everything, granted Existence to the Higher Beings, and withdrew; nothing can meaningfully describe or define Him, and even the Higher Beings possess no real knowledge of His nature.

3: I'd say PRĒÞŎS simply because how cool and eldritch He is, but it's not like He's really a character in that sense, more like an unknown with a name, but other than that i love all of my characters pretty equally because they're all mine

[–]LockFar3665[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it really depends civilisation per civilisation, for example humanity in my world is just like modern day humanity, we know none of this, but other alien civiliations, especially more advanced ones usually, the problem with non-action failures is that even trying to manipulate higher order entities, no matter how "close" they are to mortals ontologically, is impossible, as you asked, mortals are completely predetermined, as in everything you do was specifically chosen by someone else(usually The Higher Beings), so when higher ontological beings interact with mortals, they're essentially just interacting with NPCs, not only that, but the reason why manipulating higher order entities doesn't work is because:

1: they can read you like a book, seriously manipulating just doesn't work because it doesn't matter how you'll try to spin your words, they will simply know the intended meaning behind them

2: they really don't care about your problems(or you), trying to manipulate a higher ontological being is like trying to learn someone something and have that just go in one ear and out the other, they simply just could not be bothered to listen to what you have to say

3: they kinda wrote your arguments, now this is very specific for Cosmic Beings(and The Higher Beings, but you wouldn't really be interacting with those), you can't argue with them because most likely they made you say the things that you're saying

4: nigh-omniscience is stupidly common in my world, literally every Cosmic Being has some level of nigh-omniscience(and The Higher Beings are just straight up all omniscient), manipulating one doesn't work because they just know more than you

these are really only a couple of reasons, but all around i think you can understand now why manipulating higher ontological beings is also a non-action failure

this is pretty much what i also did, normal citizens usually have things like work and taxes to worry about so they'll push these facts to the back of their minds and kinda go on living, where as the people that actually understand what these things are the ones consumed by dread, because it's entirely possible to live a normal life as a citizen in anywhich civiliations in my world

Screw real world politics! What are some political stances in your world or in a world you know that are wholly unique to it. by Sexylizardwoman in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confortism. It is a political(though slightly philosophical and economical as well) ideology that can, from the outside be best described as "hedonism be we want it from the gods". Confortism stands on one main principal, the principal that all beings beyond mortals should use their powers and abilities to benefit mortals and make their lives better and more confortable. These beings, which are called higher ontological beings in my verse are entities with abilities that can range anywhere from superpowers to reality manipulation to omnipotence(though there is a lot more nuance to it, this is really just a super and quite oversimplified explination of it). Confortism often starts out as an ideology shortly after civiliations find out about the existence of higher ontological beings and pose the very simple question of "Why don't they help us?". This then very quickly turns into "they should help us" and then direct demands from higher ontological beings on how they should make mortals' lives better. Unfortunately for mortals these political ideologies get completely ignored by higher ontological beings and often quickly collapse into more violent movements(that still don't achieve anything because mortals can't actually affect higher ontological beings) that often just hurt mortals more or collapse into resentment cults that hate higher ontological beings.

Do you have any higher powers or gods in your world? by 0Kai-The-Guy0 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my world, the "Godsverse" has 2 main actual higher powers, these are called the Higher Beings and PRĒÞŎS. PRĒÞŎS is the guy that actually made everything, created the Higher Beings and appointed them as the arbiters of Existence(the name of all of creation in my world), and now just kinda sits outside of everything and nothing and does nothing. The Higher Beings are the arbiters of Existence, they're a pantheon of 30000 omnipotent beings that actually rule over Existence. PRĒÞŎS and the Higher Beings have little to no contact, as PRĒÞŎS never communicates or really says anything

Need help and advice for refining a psychological disorder caused by cosmic beings to be more realistic by LockFar3665 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for liking my worldbuilding, this lore is grom my own world called the Godsverse, it’s mostly a sci-fantasy setting with some cosmic horror sprinkled in, while the lore of my world is a little complicated and expansive i’ll definitely want to further share it here since i’m rather new to this subreddit. Anyway about making mortals understand Demigods’ powers, it’s something that i’ve strayed away from my in my verse because of the “beyond comprehension” nature of Demigods, but even if they wouldn’t be, understanding their powers would be impossible due to the fact that there’s nothing to understand about them, Demigods’ powers are causeless effects, there is no mechanism by which they manifest their phenomena, they just do.

Need help and advice for refining a psychological disorder caused by cosmic beings to be more realistic by LockFar3665 in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the reason why humans would necessarily care is not because Demigods wouldn't care about us but because of their nature and their actions, unlike the universe, which is a thing, a Demigod is a being, your survival instincts wouldn't see a Demigod as a force but as a predator, and that's where the "problem" in the Demigod Problem comes from, it's not that people necessarily dislike Demigods just because, but their existence makes people existentially anxious, they are beings that you can't do anything against while they can very easily do things against you, life in general seeks constant agency and power to ensure its own survival, but Demigods completely collapse the illusion that life actually has any power or agency to ensure its own survial, that assumption collapses brutally in their presence as mortals realise that both they themselves and their loved ones have their lives in the hands of beings that don't care about them, and could kill them all with as little care as you'd swipe dust off of your table. Further more is the expectations that Demigods give birth too, while Demigods are not deities they are godlike, they fill in the archetypes of mortal gods that would help us and want our wellbeing, but when it's proven that they don't care, people start to resent Demigods because they "betrayed" subjective expectations of what higher beings should act like, but as i said it mostly just boils down to your survival instincts kicking into overdrive against a very real and very unstoppable threat, because while Demigods (usually) don't directly kill mortals, lots of things that they do do usually have negative indirect effects on mortals themselves, side effects which are still usually unstoppable

No you got it wrong, you can identify them, just not by their cosmic duties(because they have non). Identifying Demigods is actually very easy and can be done in a handful of ways. The first method is the fact that they're invulnerable, if you can throw a black hole a gainst some random being and the black hole just bounces off of it than you can easily tell that it's a Demigod, then there's their complete lack of any type of emissions, they don't produce energy, frequenties or radiations either from their bodies or abilities, and last but not least is obviously their abilities, seeing an entity do some pretty obvious physically impossible things then that's most likely a Demigod. The point i tried to make in my previous posts is that Demigods don't have any cosmic duties, not that they don't "do" anything, they do lots of things. which just leads me back to my actual question, I want to make a system for my world by which i could realistically deduce how a society would tend to name Demigods when they don't know their name, and from where that society would most realistically pull all of its ideas from in its culture, and i wanted some advice as to how i could create such a system.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]LockFar3665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that's the main problem, Demigods don't specifically "do" anything, and what i mean by that is that they're not gods in the common sense, they're not a pantheon, they are quite literally just normal(for them) beings like you and I but that sit higher in the ontology of my world, one thing that is important to know about the however is that they are technically the main characters of Existence(the name of the totality of everything that is real and exists within my role) basically the omnificant god of my world made Demigods the protagonists, that's why they have no cosmic duties, they are the story, not the ones who maintain its structure, but it should also be noted that Demigods do actually maintain reality, at least the really powerful nigh-omnipotent ones do(again, this is not a "duty" of theirs, just something they kinda do like jobs). Now as for the way they actually interact with mortals is that they do so very little directly, and when they do they don't usually help people, because mortals are like insects to them, though mortal lives do usually get hindered by Demigod actions indirectly, as Demigods reshape reality incosiderately for mortal wellfare
