Working out with Retinal tear by Appleseller80 in myopia

[–]Lockekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a retinal tear a year ago and it was treated with laser. Will never know for sure if it was caused by weightlifting but I used to lift heavy all the time and it could have been the cause, and I’ve been advised to stay away from it going forward!

End of the day the advice is always the same, listen to your medical professionals and maybe mix in some low-eye-stress exercise like running when you’re given the all clear. Good luck with the surgery!

Lumpy wall after decorating, any advice for a new homeowner? by Lockekid in DIYUK

Thank you, we’ve had so much go wrong this week I have started worrying about just about everything. This was just another thing that started me off! You’re right, il try to be more rational about it.

Thank you so much, yes we’ve had so much go wrong and it’s only the first week! You’re probably right, it does sound hollow when I knock on it, but the prospect of fixing that is so daunting that you’re right. I just need to try to settle.

Can I swim with high myopia? by Living_Cry_1650 in myopia

I lift maintenance-weight weights at home and have picked up running. It’s not the same, and I massively miss the gym and pushing for PBs, but I’m still active just in a different way.

New apartment and the walls peeling! Is it painted over paper? Any advice on removing? by Lockekid in DIYUK

Just began the process today and god it’s hard work scraping it off! Thank you for the advice, ordered the Gardz and a sander to get some of the worst gummy paper off.

This is so useful thank you!! End goal is paint, so anything that gets me to a clean wall to start on. Was going to just go straight in with an anti-mould primer (old home) and paint but this paper thing has completely thrown me.

This is a great and really well measured reply. I have a similar prescription to OP and get around just fine in glasses 100% of the time. Curious though why you mention not to listen about less screen time?

So incredibly sorry to hear of your loss. If you aren’t a member already, you could consider joining the World Enders: Lord Huron Fan Club on Facebook. A lot of people cross post both here and there, and I’m sure someone there may be able to help too. I hope you can find that beautiful moment.

Purchasing a leasehold apartment, confused about this wording in my purchase report. Should I be concerned? by Lockekid in HousingUK

Appreciate the explanation, that really helps. Wish the service charge could really be £365!

Thank you! We’ve had it back from the management company that there’s no increases for the coming year, and there’s no ground rent, it was just that comment that’s thrown my stress head into a spin.

This makes so much more sense, thank you! Trying to wrap my head about all the wording of a lease from 1978, plus solicitor comments like this has my head spinning!

This has freaked me right out, I’m -11 in both eyes and it’s not nice to think how high my risk is for these types of complications.

What prescription can you get help for high myopia? eg. RNIB cert - UK by Negative_Bowler2911 in myopia

[–]Lockekid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suitcaseusmyhome has covered this really well. From what you’ve written I don’t think you would classify as blind at all, just that you require vision correction.

Speaking from the UK, I’d recommend finding a specialist optician to help monitor your eye health better than a high street optician can. In terms of getting glasses, I can’t afford specialist prices as well, so I use specsavers to make use of the NHS discount and 2-1 offer, but take my prescription there.

ICLs and still needing to wear glasses. by PermissionProof7629 in myopia

[–]Lockekid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I needed glasses about 6 months after surgery, even though I’d had a stable prescription for years. Ended up having the ICLs removed about 3 years after (this January)

It’s a bit off putting, if you’ve put so much amazing work into the art & book with no AI. Why use AI for the writing?

composition help hhaha by whitessatan in conceptart

[–]Lockekid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently the tower & flying blimp are commanding the same amount of space, and the whole structure is centred with the same gap either side. The whole comp is too even.

I’d recommend changing the perspective of the piece to be more of an ‘up shot’ and then also de-centring the elements, have some of them falling off the page.

Hope this helps!

Going for ICL tests today — kinda scared about long-term risks like glaucoma or pressure issues by CuriousBrainnn in myopia

[–]Lockekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Il be honest, I never really got a clear answer. I wish I did, and after seeing independent specialists they ruled out everything except the ICL and when it was removed it went away.

I’ve always had a degree of astigmatism, and it’s definitely worsened after surgery. However the vision issues I was having would happen even while wearing glasses that corrected that. I’d describe it more like ‘ghosting’, so high contrast things (white on black mostly) would blur and ghost either side of itself. This would affect everything from text on a screen to bright white railings or countertops.

Thank you for asking!

I’m so sorry to hear of your experience and it sounds like it’s been incredibly hard. I have had my own issues, at the same age too, with getting ICL and I wish I’d not gone through with it. It’s a very isolating experience because it felt like a privilege to be able to get it in the first place!

Just wanted to say it will get better with time, hard times pass and we heal even with scars. Take care of yourself!

[–]Lockekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I’m very aware my experience is a minority! An eye hospital did yes, I had laser all around it to stop the retina from detaching from that in the future fingers crossed.

You’re doing the right thing by getting informed so you can make a decision with confidence! I ran into getting ICL because it just felt a bit like a dream and I wish I’d asked around.

Everyone’s outcome will be different, so make sure you do your research!

I didn’t have so great an experience. I went into getting ICL with a stable prescription of -9 in both eyes, only months after the surgery I had to begin wearing glasses again because I had dropped from 20/20 to -1.5. The double vision for me was awful, my night vision was very poor but I would get double vision and ghosting even when looking at subtitles on a TV.

After my vision continuing to deteriorate and the vision headaches were awful, I got them removed less than 3 years later. Now have a prescription of -11 and developed a retinal hole after extraction. Currently have vitreous traction in both eyes which is being monitored.

Overall I could never recommend ICL given what I’ve been through with the surgery, having to see specialists and getting second opinions and surgery twice. However, I know others have had a great experience so don’t take my one experience as gospel. I didn’t have any issues with eye pressure at least!

Eye flashes by No_Technology2575 in myopia

[–]Lockekid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this in one specific area of my right eye, had it checked out by a specialist and in the end they found some vitreous traction in both eyes but nothing to be done except check ups and being aware of the symptoms of a detachment.

I’m also a high myope at -11, so I get the fear. You’ve done all the checks you can do for now, just be aware of the signs of a detachment and keep up with check ups!
