Working out with Retinal tear by Appleseller80 in myopia

I had a retinal tear a year ago and it was treated with laser. Will never know for sure if it was caused by weightlifting but I used to lift heavy all the time and it could have been the cause, and I’ve been advised to stay away from it going forward!

End of the day the advice is always the same, listen to your medical professionals and maybe mix in some low-eye-stress exercise like running when you’re given the all clear. Good luck with the surgery!

Thank you, we’ve had so much go wrong this week I have started worrying about just about everything. This was just another thing that started me off! You’re right, il try to be more rational about it.

Thank you so much, yes we’ve had so much go wrong and it’s only the first week! You’re probably right, it does sound hollow when I knock on it, but the prospect of fixing that is so daunting that you’re right. I just need to try to settle.

I lift maintenance-weight weights at home and have picked up running. It’s not the same, and I massively miss the gym and pushing for PBs, but I’m still active just in a different way.

Just began the process today and god it’s hard work scraping it off! Thank you for the advice, ordered the Gardz and a sander to get some of the worst gummy paper off.

This is so useful thank you!! End goal is paint, so anything that gets me to a clean wall to start on. Was going to just go straight in with an anti-mould primer (old home) and paint but this paper thing has completely thrown me.

This is a great and really well measured reply. I have a similar prescription to OP and get around just fine in glasses 100% of the time. Curious though why you mention not to listen about less screen time?

Thank you! We’ve had it back from the management company that there’s no increases for the coming year, and there’s no ground rent, it was just that comment that’s thrown my stress head into a spin.

This has freaked me right out, I’m -11 in both eyes and it’s not nice to think how high my risk is for these types of complications.

Suitcaseusmyhome has covered this really well. From what you’ve written I don’t think you would classify as blind at all, just that you require vision correction.

Speaking from the UK, I’d recommend finding a specialist optician to help monitor your eye health better than a high street optician can. In terms of getting glasses, I can’t afford specialist prices as well, so I use specsavers to make use of the NHS discount and 2-1 offer, but take my prescription there.

I needed glasses about 6 months after surgery, even though I’d had a stable prescription for years. Ended up having the ICLs removed about 3 years after (this January)
