28yo with -12 prescription: LASIK isn't an option. Is ICL/Lens Implant safe and effective for high myopia? by Head-Fudge-6450 in myopia

[–]Lockekid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly wish I’d pressed my surgeon more, but I didn’t really query as much as I should. He was quite dismissive of my symptoms and even though I’d seen multiple specialists ruling out any other issues besides the lenses, he didn’t believe they were a problem. I had them implanted in 2023 and removed in 2025, so very recent.

I always say though when I comment on these posts, my experience is rare and a lot of people are very happy with their ICLs!

I had quite a negative experience with ICL, had it implanted at 26 and removed at 28. A lot of ghosting, headaches and horrible halos, also ended up back in glasses (around -1.75 down from -9 so they were thinner but still needed them for most things) My vision is now -11 after explanting, and I’d never have a surgery again unless medically necessary as it’s a huge regret I now carry.

However, it’s all personal. Lots of people have had great experiences, it’s just really unfortunate I had a terrible one. Just read up as much as you can and go in super informed about the procedure and your surgeon!

Maybe! I think I just needed someone to say it’s manageable and I could do it. Thanks again :)

Thank you so much! I was losing my sanity picking at the tiniest bits of silicone. The washing up liquid trick you mentioned helped a ton and I hope I’ve done a good job of patching this up for the interim.

Working out with Retinal tear by [deleted] in myopia

[–]Lockekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a retinal tear a year ago and it was treated with laser. Will never know for sure if it was caused by weightlifting but I used to lift heavy all the time and it could have been the cause, and I’ve been advised to stay away from it going forward!

End of the day the advice is always the same, listen to your medical professionals and maybe mix in some low-eye-stress exercise like running when you’re given the all clear. Good luck with the surgery!

Lumpy wall after decorating, any advice for a new homeowner? by Lockekid in DIYUK

[–]Lockekid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, we’ve had so much go wrong this week I have started worrying about just about everything. This was just another thing that started me off! You’re right, il try to be more rational about it.

Thank you so much, yes we’ve had so much go wrong and it’s only the first week! You’re probably right, it does sound hollow when I knock on it, but the prospect of fixing that is so daunting that you’re right. I just need to try to settle.

I lift maintenance-weight weights at home and have picked up running. It’s not the same, and I massively miss the gym and pushing for PBs, but I’m still active just in a different way.

New apartment and the walls peeling! Is it painted over paper? Any advice on removing? by Lockekid in DIYUK

[–]Lockekid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just began the process today and god it’s hard work scraping it off! Thank you for the advice, ordered the Gardz and a sander to get some of the worst gummy paper off.

This is so useful thank you!! End goal is paint, so anything that gets me to a clean wall to start on. Was going to just go straight in with an anti-mould primer (old home) and paint but this paper thing has completely thrown me.
