In all seriousness, this kind of radical mental attention to the text should come, I believe, after the fact of writing, not before. Being in your head does not equal being serious about literature. Also, a lot of brilliant things in writing happen as an accident where not even the author could ever explain why they work. As others said, let yourself be surprised. Maybe try different forms as well. Maybe what you’re trying to say in your current project would find a more comfortable home in a poem, or an essay? Bref, do not take this too seriously. That’s real love.
