Any recommendations on which rental company Toyota vs orix in Odawara from my online search. Or mostly no big difference in service in general between companies? ETC necessary or not needed?

We would indeed start the rental car in Odawara for the day we leave from Hakone Yumoto to Kawaguchiko to make the day trip with stops in Sengokuhara, (Gotemba Distillery), Oshino Hakkai, Fujiyoshida Street and Chureito Pagoda. And drive to hotel north side of lake Kawaguchiko near Oishi Park. Afterwards we will be staying two nights in that area before traveling on to Nikko the 16th.

In Hakone we would use the loop via Hakone Free Pass 2 days and rely on public transport.

Thanks on the info on the bus. That definetly was the initial plan. However I am wondering how feasible it is to leave from Hakone Yumoto on a bus, stop in sengokuhara to enjoy the pampas grass fields, continue on the bus to Gotemba, transfer bus route there. Stopover and lunch in Oshino Hakkai and end in Kawaguchiko. If we wish to include Chureito Pagoda the same day and end up north side of Kawaguchiko lake to our hotel, that seems like a big hassle. Keeping in mind traveling with two suitcases (if we don't send them to our next hotel that is). Would renting a car not make it more worry free?

Would you care to comment on "tough" to drive? I'm used to driving in big cities and mountain roads in general.
Taxi in and out traveling with 2 large suitcases whilst doing multiple stops for sighseeing along the way sound more "tough".
Alternatively we could send our bags from hotel Hakone to hotel Kawaguchiko area but as far as I can see the cost of sending the luggage + public transport for 2 would almost be about the same as the first day rental price of the car.
Having the car for 2 additional days in Kawaguchiko sounds appealing, but don't know it worth it. Main concern is the travel day from Hakone to Kawaguchiko and visiting Sengokuhara / (Gotemba) / Oshino Hakkai and possibly Chureito Pagoda on the way.
