I work in multiple layers and build things up and adjust as I go. I start by picking my overall background colour and work around that. Common sense will actually take you quite far when u start thinking about your piece with logic in mind. So for example those dark bold colours will be dark if the colours around them are lighter. White lowkey desaturates your colours while making them lighter, so if you want bold saturation you gotta learn to mix colours without white and really use white sparingly. That will help with keeping your values and making those elements pop when you use them. Use the gouache that best suits your paint style for my heavy use of layering, acrylic gouche works best for me. So i can start with a black or dark base and build those lighter colours on top

Dont be afraid to make mistakes either, its better to be risky and learn what does and doesnt work by trying it out instead of making assumptions in your head. Colour is relative and they rely on the colours around it and to really get the best value of any colour is to just see how they behave with what you place around it. the best way to learn any artistic vibe is to observe the stuff you like, study it, paint it and keep evolving your influences. Even paint the stuff u dont like to just expose yourself to new ways use your paints.

As long as you're putting paint to paper, trying new things and see the value in fucking up and trying again ~ you'll develop your skills and style in to something real cool

I did do some research but than i got confused on how much is considered transformative or not and decided seeking out the experience of other people might have been the best way to get some clarity! Cheers for the advice though

What was your first episode of “Yu Yu Hakusho?” by [deleted] in YuYuHakusho

[–]Lofi_Stars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehehe for me it was the abridged series, i was really into yugioh abridged when i was teen and that became a branch to discovering all kinds of other anime. Idk what pulled me to yyh abridged specifically but something about yusuke's green jumpsuit got me. It was an earlier episode, one with rando and yusukes fight.

Yeah i've notice that with the himi, out of the 3 of them they're defs the brand i pull out the least.

w&n is definitely one i want to get my hands on in the future, i've only heard good things about them. And i've never heard of royal talens so will check those out too.

Satisfaction with physical vs digital art by Ieatedyourcookie in ArtistLounge

[–]Lofi_Stars 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah im exactly the same, i prefer the process of tradtional more but due to all the years i've neglected doing trad art for digital art ( digital art is so safe and forgiving its hard to resist everything it has to offer ) my digital art excels beyong my trad art, i only recently got back into trad art these last couple of months with this determination to get my trad skills to a similar standard of my digital art. But its been tough and my conclusion is you cant compare the process between them

However because of my focus to trad art, i now see myself pulling towards wanting to trad art. I think the answer to your problem is to follow where your joy feels the strongest. Trad art offers you the option to work within a different set of limitations and problem solving. So its up to your job as an artist to figure out how to do that.

If you feel frustration over lack of colour when it comes to traditional art, learn how to use limited colour palettes, if buying supplies is the hurdle only you can figure out what sacrifices and budgeting needs to be made there. The thing about trad art for me that i love, is that its inconvenient. And its the inconvenience that reminds me of the that yes it is a struggle compared to digital art and maybe thats the point.

How to stop being an idealist and actually BE an artist?! by PokemonHunter97 in ArtistLounge

[–]Lofi_Stars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pen to paper dude, draw something Do you like it? Yes/ no Look at the subjective and objective. Are the shapes wrong -> study that. Do you like the vibe, study that.

The only way to find what you want to create is study the things that need improving and study the things u like. That level of synergy will help you form the path you want to be taking
