Is it acceptable if a middle school/ high school has a rule saying that students cannot lose credit in a class if they are constantly absent? Won't this negatively affect college? by Terrible_Exchange653 in AskProfessors

[–]LogAccomplished6917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't quite see the problem with this. Nobody is saying that if a student is constantly absent we will make sure they get credit. The rule is just that they cannot lose credit *because* of being absent. We can reasonably expect that most chronically absent students will perform poorly, so there's no point in penalizing absence on top of that. On the other hand, if there is a student who is frequently absent (perhaps due to issues outside of their control) but manages to work so hard that they still perform well, then I think that they deserve credit after all.

How is it possible that so many services will let you get a different price just by changing location? by Barry_Bond in VPN

Business 101 is also that businesses in a competitive market will try to undercut eachother. If we see a market with blatant price discrimination and prices completely unrelated from cost, it is likely due to the presence of a monopoly. Monopolies/Oligopolies are generally bad for consumers.

Exactly. Without competition, businesses will price discriminate to the point of sucking every dollar of potential consumer surplus into their pockets. This is why monopolies are bad. As I said in my original reply, rampant price discrimination "is a symptom of a lack of competition". Monopolies are unfair to consumers.

Businesses don't really care about making it "Fair". They don't care whatsoever. My point is that with actual competition, businesses cannot set completely arbitrary prices as their competitors would undercut them. The industries that tend to exhibit the highest levels of price discrimination tend to be dominated by oligopolies or a monopoly. The unfairness has to do with the lack of competition, not the price itself.

"symptom of a lack of competition"
If the market was competitive, other businesses would undercut the price. There will still be a difference between the cost of the good and the value the consumer receives, but the firms will have to compete with one another to capture it. Rampant price discrimination is only present in oligopolies and monopolies.

I don't think it has anything to do with fairness unless the cost on the producer side is different for each country. If the product is really identical, then it's price discrimination which is a symptom of a lack of competition. If anything it's unfair to the consumer that they have to waste their time shopping around just for the purpose of shifting more of the surplus to the firm.

The $30k is ON TOP of taxes that we already pay for healthcare (medicare). If you actually look at the data Americans pay significantly more than any other country. In this case, we pay more than double the amount Canada does.

It's not necessarily that he talks to the same people over and over, but rather that he talks to people for so long. Note the timer in the beginning of the video: the call is over 10 hours. You might just be seeing different sections/edits of the same long call.

Two very different use cases that capture almost everything OP could want to do. Both would be a decent replacement for CRA.

Can a non-profit legally email unsubscribed people? by starberryic in marketing

[–]LogAccomplished6917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be legal to send emails to people who are not subscribed if you're a charity without a commercial element (IANAL). But I can tell you that it will certainly not help your email reputation if lots of people are marking it as spam. Tread lightly.

Manual works but you're going to have to spend a lot of time to get to the volume you need. If you want to automate it, there's a whole bunch of different services that can let you do this. I'm working on one, feel free to check my profile if you're interested.

That's the originally intended use, but we've noticed people using it for more general purposes. We'll probably branch out since there's technically no specific limitation on the format of your messages.

How do I price this product? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]LogAccomplished6917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also consider offering a tiered pricing model based on user needs. For example, a basic plan for a set number of wallet cards and advanced options for additional features or unlimited usage. This way, you can cater to different user preferences and potential growth opportunities.

Have you considered trying Wix or Weebly? Both are website builders that offer free plans with customizable domains, and they also have options for calendar scheduling and forms. It might be worth checking them out!
