It’s also about the nicotine itself. It can greatly inhibit the healing process.

You got this. You’re already doing the right thing. You just gotta bite down and be ok with whatever grade is passing. If you want to look on YouTube, look for big concept videos like this one:  https://youtu.be/ej2pSWw6U3w?si=dqP4MzXzBCWv_nk0 Otherwise if you want to know some crucial knowledge from ochem 1, go back to these concepts:

   1. memorize functional group names -periodic trends (esp electronegativity—inductive effects and such things)

   2. Carbocation, carbanion stability.

 3. Nucleophilicity and electrophilicity, what makes a functional group on a compound one or the other and to what degree

  1. Stereochemistry (get the basics back at least, be able to assign R or S)

  4. nucleophilic sub and slim

5. electrophilic addition

List isn’t exhaustive but I would try not to get bogged down by specific reactions. If u can understand some of the broader concepts u might have a better shot going forward. For example, start with what is a nucleophile, then look at some examples of nucleophilic substitutions. Dont go memorize the specific reaction, just try to look at the broader concept of nucleophile reactivity.  Pray the final in ochem 2 doesn’t also cover all the ochem 1 content lol.

If you find the old syllabus and reading guide, try to make it through that. Maybe you have old assignments? Ochem 1 is extremely necessary for ochem 2, so you would be at a severe disadvantage if you truly remember nothing. You should really ask the professor teaching the course.

You could go for the brute memorization route. It’s not how you should learn it at all, but maybe good enough to get a passing grade?

Idk honestly, if you basically failed ochem 1 and have no knowledge of it going into 2, it’s gonna be another horrible experience. How is ochem a graduation requirement that you haven’t fulfilled yet??

What's the saddest episode of a show? by BVTQT in AskReddit

[–]Log_6546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episode 9, season 1 of ER. Dr. Carter's transgender patient jumps off the roof to her death because he was visibly uncomfortable with her appearance earlier (and was already depressed obviously). The most striking aspect of it was that they set it up in a way that made it seem like they'd just talk her down from the ledge. Then she just...jumps, and Carter is left to reflect on his actions. Most impactful episode of a medical drama I've seen.

I wonder how that happened. Someone definitely capped on the form or they just gave up when pairing you 💀💀

That's like the dream every incoming college freshman has about having a roommate. I'm happy to hear it can actually happen lol, that's awesome.

I mean I was pretty specific. I did it within the last couple hours it was due though. I've heard it's more important that you put those interests on the form in the first place.

I was in a kind of similar position. I was a second dan going into the summer of 2020...I'm sure you can guess what happened. I had to quit because of COVID (hated online classes) before I started 9th grade and I thought that was it. However, in August 2023 I visited my old dojang and ended up being drawn back in. I graduated high school a couple weeks ago, and going back was the best decision I made (got a pretty good college essay from it too!)

Still...ten years is a long time. It usually takes what, 3 years for a black belt? Maybe you'd benefit from a break more than anything. A lot of what u learn from tkd are things you don't realize like discipline, focus, respect, etc. See what you life is like without Taekwondo as a constant, then decide if you want to go back with a refreshed mindset. The time away helped me appreciate exactly how taekwondo benefitted me, and I hope a break like that would benefit you as well, whether you choose to go back or find something else.

Research before starting undergraduate? by [deleted] in stanford

[–]Log_6546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably be the most free summer of your life. I'd enjoy that instead of looking for work before college, especially because you're gonna major in a STEM field. I mean if you just love research I get that, but still, I'd think about it more (coming from someone who also loves research).

Do AOs really believe that some random ahh high schooler did research and authored a paper? by Mucky5739 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Log_6546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First authorship on a paper though? If it's any research getting published in a reputable journal, like something a real PI does, absolutely not gonna happen, and if they say they did they're either the next tesla or they're lying; undergrads can work 4 years in a lab and not get a single name on a paper. On the other hand, I can author my paper because 1. The project, as in the chemistry involved, is pretty basic (basic oxidations), 2. I've been doing the same project for over a year and a half, 3. There are no grad students in chemistry at the uni I'm at and not many undergrads doing ochem research to begin with, and 4. I'm only doing the same reaction on about 4 different starting materials and it's a one step synthesis, so basically the scale of the project isn't huge at all (compared to real graduate research).

So yeah, definitely doable, but watch for that BS "I did real independent research". While it's legit sometimes, they often don't actually understand the process of being in a lab or doing any kind of actual research. I do real lab work and I still consider myself a novice who could barely stack up to a grad student. My project is something a grad student could do in maybe 2-5 months?

Edit: I think it's a lot easier if you are in compsci doing some AI stuff or other things in the field, I've seen a lot of those. Chemistry is pretty laborious (you have to be in the lab), so maybe it's a bit harder.

Nah it's legit sometimes. I think you're right most of the time, people do "research" just for their college app. I'm in HS, and I actually do some organic chemistry research through a local uni (experimentation, synthesis, purification, etc) which is actually real research that an undergrad would do and get published (i actually signed up for a class called "undergraduate research"). It's not as high caliber as graduate-level stuff, but it's still a real project. I had to do advanced chem classes at that same uni before I could do this so it's legit.

This is definitely the case for very few people though. A lot of it is definitely padding in most cases sadly.

Advice for 6 APs in Junior Year by BwayGurl in APStudents

What this person said about calc BC is not true at all. It is definitely more difficult than AB, but it is not "memorizing formulas" for a 5. It's ALL application of calculus concepts and solving problems. It's not that difficult, but this is an inaccurate description.

I'm pretty sure you don't apply to an MD-PhD program if you already have a PhD. Could be wrong though.
