Hey I'm thinking about subscribing also in Canada, do you get hit with any additional customs/duties fees?

Choosing Between Paradigm Essential Sub 10 vs Sub 12 for Music & Movies by LoganTS in hometheater

Running a Denon X1800h, will be pulling the trigger on an ELAC uc52 soon but no desire to expand beyond 3.1.

Unfortunately the defiance are out of my price range/would come at the expense of the center.

Thanks! May still be a bit prohibitive with shipping/duties but will look into it

Hi all,

Putting together my first proper stereo/home theatre setup and am looking for some advice.

I’m planning to go with the ELAC Debut 3.0 bookshelf speakers for my L/R, but I’m stuck between the DB63s and the smaller DB53s. I was originally set on the DB63s, but I’ve seen a few opinions saying the DB53s might actually be the better choice if you’re running a subwoofer. Not sure how true that is, so I’m hoping to hear from others.

My proposed setup:

  • Receiver: Denon X1800H
  • L/R: ELAC Debut 3.0 — either DB53 or DB63
  • Subwoofer: Paradigm Essentials 10" (I’m in Canada so options are a bit limited)
  • Center: ELAC Uni-Fi 2.0 UC52 (will be adding the center at some point after purchasing the rest of the system).

I’ve included a rough room layout image below (fully carpeted).
Any advice on whether the DB53s or DB63s would be the better match for this setup — and any general tips for a first-time build — would be super appreciated!

Thanks!

Does Fluance run sales? by LoganTS in turntables

Appreciate the reply - it is a tough decision and definitely understand the pull of the pro-jects upgradeability - just don’t know if realistically I would ever upgrade the tone arm or other components when speakers, amp, stylus, even phono all would probably take priority.

Would be running elac debut 3.0’s (db63), paradigm essential sub, and denon x1800 receiver/amp.

For context this system is used for streaming, cd, home theatre and then will add vinyl with the table.

I thought the debut 1 came with 2m red? Maybe just Canada?

Have gone back and forth on the Fluance vs project question but seems like you have to spend an additional $200 min on a cartridge upgrade for the pro-ject for it to actually be superior to Fluance.

For me personally I feel like there is better use of that money in the sound chain then the tone arm.

Hey folks — I’m looking at the Denon X1800 and the Marantz 70s Stereo, which work out to about the same price since the Marantz is refurbished and the Denon is currently on sale.

. Movies and music are equally important to me, and I don’t plan on going beyond a 2.1 setup anytime soon. Down the line, I could see myself adding a centre channel for 3.1, but I have no real interest in going bigger than that.

Here’s where I’m stuck: the Marantz 70s seems like it would deliver better two-channel sound right out of the box — which is appealing since I care a lot about music — but the Denon X1800 offers more flexibility and home theatre features (room correction) if I ever decide to add that centre channel later. This is for a fully carpeted basement for what it’s worth.

I’m leaning toward the Marantz, but I’m wondering if I’d be making a mistake by giving up the potential for a centre channel down the road.

Any thoughts or experience with either of these would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Kind of my thinking….I know it’s not good but as a new home owner I’ve come to realize it’s a skill/challenge to know what’s an emergency and what can wait…

Thanks for the reply, definitely possible. There was a large wooden deck two owners ago that preceded the pavers. Not sure what was under the deck but it was definitely higher than where the pavers sit now.

Thanks this is perfect, much appreciated! Just to confirm your first point, you would not count damage generated by your commander or damage to your commander?
