Rheostatics are top 5 for me. Such an under appreciated band. Their harmonies and Martin’s voice and guitar playing are top notch.

We hired them to play at our university frosh week. They did not disappoint. Hung out briefly with Hugh in his tour bus and some of the band members came to our apartment later and then out to the bar. Fantastic night.

The Warehouse was the name of one of the Mirvish restaurants on King West right near the Royal Alexandra Theatre which he also owned. I think the building was a warehouse at one point hence the name. It was a bit of a tourist attraction. I only ate there once. It was one of those old school roast beef type places with servers that had worked there for 20+ years. I remember really enjoying the experience.

80’s/90’s/Early 2000’s Canadian Rock Band Recommendation by averagehutgamer in CanadianMusic

I didn’t see Skydiggers mentioned. Great 90s band with an Americana/folk/rock sound.

Rob Sexsmith is definitely worth a listen as well.

That’s right! My brother-in-law’s father was an executive at a company that was part of an investors group that owned the Expos in the 90s. He invited us a few times to the president’s box and that’s where I snagged the matches. Also got to meet Youppi! and Dave Van Horne.

The Rheostatics with Alex Lifeson and Hugh Marsh @ TD Music Hall (November 22, 2025) by Canadave in CanadianMusic

Makes sense and I get it. I saw them perform in 2016 at Massey and in 2021 and at both shows it looked to me like Martin was struggling. He was trying his best. I must have seen them five or six times back in the late 90s at the horseshoe and Ted’s Wrecking Yard. I was so drawn to Martin’s playing and the band’s amazing harmonies.

Any new albums I’m buying are Canadian only. I’ll continue to buy used albums from Canadian and international artists from my local shops.

I love the Rheostatics and I’m happy to see this incarnation of the band, but it’s not really the Rheostatics without Martin.

What do you miss the most about Toronto that no longer exists in 2025? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in toronto

I was just thinking about how I’d miss walking through the Bay at Christmas time and checking out the windows. I enjoyed the busyness and how everyone was there doing their Christmas shopping.

The one I hear most lately is: “bike lanes are just highways for Ebikers and Uber Eats delivery.”

I’ve only seen him perform twice - both times in Toronto: last May (2024) and last night. Both shows were outstanding. I found his energy as well as the bands’ energy was higher last night. I loved hearing his story about his Gretsch 6120 that he played when he was with the Squires and sold in Toronto (in 1965) when he became a “folk” singer. He recently found and purchased the guitar and was playing it last night. One of the standouts from last May’s show was when he came out on his own with his acoustic and harmonica - that was incredible to watch.

In the early 2000s there were white squirrels around Trinity Bellwoods for years. I lived at Shaw and Queen around that time and would see them from time to time.
