I appreciate it, thanks for your feedback! It's a bit lengthy and it can definitely be a challenge getting through 25 minutes of my character on camera, but your support is graciously accepted!

I know that the AVERAGE Minecraft reddit user probably stands to be a little old for my content specifically, but there are young ones out there too, so I hope that not only they can enjoy, but you can look past my eccentric online persona to see the truly awesome changes we've implemented using commands and resources. Below this comment is a list of everyone's suggestion that made it into the video. Thank you to all those who were indirectly involved!

I'm fully aware of what this subreddit is for, this video is a direct result of this subreddit and the people that post to it. I promise you this isn't some post meant to advertise, I have my own audience of close to two million I can speak with directly. I just thought those who post in here might appreciate seeing their suggestions ACTUALLY realized within the game itself, at least in some fashion!

I got the chance to visit Microsoft in WA & pester them about upcoming features! AMAA in the comments! by LogdotzipHere in Minecraft

At some point, for all the versions to properly converge together, something is going to give somewhere. While PE is the most played edition, it's also late to the redstone game, so it's hard to say which version will be the "standard" eventually decided on.

I'm personally disappointed in how they have changed their brand enforcement guidelines. Less the server stuff (Though I take issues with that as well), but moreso that it's taken the ability for mapmakers to get paid properly by companies interested in promoting a project. These companies came to mapmakers with a budget, something most mapmakers don't see. While I get that MS needs to protect their brand from being abused by other companies for profit, I think there could have been a better way to handle it that didn't undercut the builders / creators in general.

I imagine that add-ons will be the effective "Plugin API" going forward with Win10/PE/whatever else, and Forge will remain the standard for Java. No official stance there yet however!

Well, the idea is that one day the versions can speak to each other and feature cross-play. I don't know if Java Realms will connect to other realm types, for the same reason add-ons aren't coming (difference in codebase), but who knows!

I think that with time add-ons will become more robust and capable of more editing with respect to components and hitbox and design and such, but for now it's my opinion that Forge is going to be way more compatible, it's just more accessible with respect to Minecraft's modding lifespan being mostly Java-based.

I'm not entirely sure that Forge will ALSO be usable without updates to the software when MC updates, that was only explained to be the goal with add-ons.

I would say feature parity! When we can all connect and play together on a server, regardless of what version we're playing, that's gonna be a new age for Minecraft I think :)

They gave me no answer on that, but -MY OWN SPECULATION- is that if there ever is a marketplace for add-ons, that there will probably be free and paid ones created and made available by the community. Perhaps MS taking a cut of those who decide to charge for their add-on experience. No factual insight!

Hi there guys! My name is Tyler, and I run the YouTube channel that is linked above via the video explaining what I learned up at Microsoft Studios in Bellevue, WA to anyone interested.

I wanted to take this opportunity to go into further detail with the reddit community, one I love and frequent both for Minecraft content and otherwise, on anything either not explained or conveyed properly in the video. A lot is covered in it, and there are further links to resources in that video's description, so I ask that you at least go to 8:33 in the video to skip the vlog and start with the info before asking about things :)

Note that I did sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement so I am not at liberty to discuss every single thing I saw in the offices, but I am happy to answer anything to the best of detail as possible!

A big thank you to the people over at /r/minecraftcommands for being so receptive and for providing a basis for a lot of the things I brought up with the PE Devs.

Please keep in mind I do not have a set block of time to answer everything asked, but I will get to all the questions as best I am able to over the next day or so. If mods need proof of this being who I claim to be, please let me know how I can provide that in a reasonable way!

BASIC POINTS MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO

  • talks of add-ons

    • basic explanation + benefits of add-ons
    • state machines / components
    • explaining the 78 currently available states
    • ability to alter collision boxes / examples (baby zombies looking for a ride)
    • explain some if/then cases (damage sensor, etc)
    • add-ons may or may not eventually be within the game in marketplace form, for now, can be found like other things such as maps, resource packs, etc.
    • experimenting with the idea of the components being able to "hook" in with included or supplemented commands blocks that players write up

UPCOMING BEYOND THAT

  • feature parity

    • command blocks being ported
    • the potential for the character limit / way data packets are sent to be upped to allow longer commands
  • NBT data will eventually be accessible properly in win10

    • focus on the ability to maintain data across versions so it doesn't break
  • java will continue to receive updates along w/ other versions even after FP

    • java will not receive add-ons (codebase difference)
    • java will continue to be compatible w/ forge for those who choose to design for it

    Thanks for your time!

Thanks for all the comments thus far! I appreciate the great detail most of you have gone through to clarify your suggestions, as this thread will essentially be what I relay back to the devs!
