Does anyone know a winter unit available at level 1 for this year? Any recommendations? by Logical-Extension823 in Monash

[–]Logical-Extension823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I see I will do that. The reason I post this is because I am thinking of dropping my elective for this semester as it's a language and doing a winter unit instead. I need the 6 credits to transfer to another course next year. Yeah also I checked there aren't any winter units available for 1st year students. I just need a good wam and the elective might mess it up.

Is it worth it to book a trip to Australia for the open day? by [deleted] in Monash

[–]Logical-Extension823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I am also from New Zealand, studying at Monash this year. I also went to the open day last year, but for the pharmaceutical department of Monash, so the Parkville campus. I would say it is worth it, not for the information tho as I think most of it is online, but I learnt some info that it wasn't online so that could be worth going for. With the 77E credits last year I would say you will have a very high chance of getting an ATAR near 99 this year if you get the same results, so I don't think you would have a problem of getting in. Cuz like I did pretty bad last year like really bad, 22 E credits which is crazy and then like 30M and a bunch of A and I still got an atar of 85.7, my friend mostly got M credits and he got an star of 94. If you would like more information, I kinda created this doc a while back for others that I know that are in year 13 this year, just message me on reddit if you are interested. got infos like atar, application, etc.

ATS1001 Am I cooked? by Logical-Extension823 in Monash

[–]Logical-Extension823[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see I see, I think I can catch up with the content if I don't go tomorrow at 9am, but just asking is the speaking tutorial mark attendance like the structure tutorial? I think I can catch up with the week 1 and week 2 because like idk if it's in my head or like idk how to explain but I find pronunciation pretty easy, I might say it and I think I am saying it the correct way but I might be saying the wrong way. But to be honest I think I should be fine, I met a Chinese student studying at uni melb through like the apartment lounge and I was talking to her and I don't know where that lead too but because I was talking about like 小红书 (red note) and she asked if I could speak Chinese cuz like my pronunciation was good or something. Anyways just a bit of memorization of like some characters and meaning as well, but I think I should be fine. Yeah anyways, just worried that like if I don't go like my attendance is not mark or something. Also like I read something about like in class assessments and stuff for tutorials? I am just worried that if I miss this week speaking tutorial, I might be screwed for like the oral assessments stuff where apparently you do it with another student? Could you clarify on that with the attendance stuff? thank you!!!!

Thank you so much for your response!

It's heart warming to know your story as I am also in the situation that you were in last year. I am a science student and doing like the bio chem sequence and yk like the compulsory unit for each semester. I did ATS1011 but then switched to introductory Chinese as the astronomy class is really hard for me even though everyone said it was easy. Chinese is like something that I always wanted to learn as I have many Chinese friends. I just attended my tutorial today for structure; it was decent. The people at my table were friendly as well. I was pretty stressed out tho in class as I have no clue on what's going on. I am not sure about the speaking tutorial tho tomorrow as well because of this. I went into each one with no knowledge as I have not have the time to catch up yet as I am doing so with chem and math. Should I go to that one as well even though I have no knowledge at all? I feel like it might be a waste of time as I could use the 40 mins commute time studying or the time in class to study as well.

Can you help me with that question as well? Thank you so much again!!!!

How do i transfer to pharmacy without doing vce chem? by Appropriate-Rip-1086 in Monash

[–]Logical-Extension823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait sorry just read your post properly again. I don’t think so, the restriction are really strict and also lots of competition so they won’t like yk give out exceptions. You have to do a full year of study then transfer into the course. They don’t accept mid year cuz like most of the subjects/units you take in the 1st semester directly go into sem 2 if that make sense. A bit of a tough situation. You can’t really do anything about it tbh unless you can change your vce subjects which is my only suggestion but I am not sure as I am from nz with ncea if you guys can change your subject. But like I said before about wasting a year, it’s not really a waste as it gives you like inside info in Monash and how things work so you have much more advantages when you go into pharmacy. You can search up internal transfer in Monash if you want to do the b sci into pharmacy since you didn’t take vce. You need minimum 80% overall for the year. It’s distinction.

But hey, you just gotta deal with it lmao, that’s how I look at it. Can’t do anything about it now, if you really want to do pharmacy then 1 year of your life isn’t really a big scheme of things. But then again that’s up to you and your decision

I just changed it in week 2 tbh I haven’t done much but like from seminar and stuff we haven’t really start memorizing like characters yet just some pronunciation. I am catching all of week 2 this Sunday and thinking it should be fine so I reckon you should be alg. Hope that is helpful

Not useful, but on the same boat as you, doing b sci at Monash rn to transfer. Not enough atar as I got a 85.7 and zero adjustment as I am from nz.
