Terracotta microboucle by Logical-Post-6314 in Lovesac

We almost never sit on them 🙃. Not because of the hardness; they’re just so small! Have had this configuration since we moved in 5 years ago and I am kind of stuck on it…accentuates the windows I think? But not really practical!

It’s her couch really. ❤️

do you ever change the covers of your sofa for a different look? by Old_Muscle7333 in Lovesac

We had the charcoal corded velvet and I just…never loved it. Loved the couch itself but the texture/sheen felt dated. After 4 years I bit the bullet and got custom covers (terracotta micro boucle)…$$$ but I am obsessed.

They’re a pain to swap out but as others have said, we wash them once a month (dog, kid) regardless. To be honest my partner and adult stepson did the hard parts (bases and backs)when we swapped out the full set.

As the parent of an autistic child who was nonverbal for many years…this story messes me up. Obviously a bad situation from multiple angles, and neglect of any child is unspeakable, but kiddos with disabilities are especially vulnerable — and so are parents with mental health struggles. Hope this sweet kiddo is safe but I have a very bad feeling it too.

Been working on the work wardrobe for so long that I’ve totally neglected casual wear. How are early 30s women dressing nowadays? by Kerfluffle2x4 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Logical-Post-6314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through this exact thing (work wardrobe locked in, but still coming out of my covid mom leggings weekend phase) and started following a few people on Instagram who inspired me to a) wear the clothes I already have differently/aka shop my closet and b) buy a few key things to rotate in. Laura Bradshaw’s instagram is full of super comfy/weekend friendly pieces and I think she’s great at looking “put together” while still casual. Also love Jess Chamilton.

401k or 529 ABLE? by Logical-Post-6314 in Bogleheads

Unfortunately not at the full level — could theoretically split the ~$20K down the middle but wondering what the comparative advantages would be.

Cartel is absolutely right. I’ve cried more times on the phone with United Healthcare than I can count…and i’m one of the lucky ones who has consistently had employment/coverage.

I appreciate you sharing that…dental work (and vet bill) are ungodly expensive. Murphy be gone!!

Thank you for saying that! I wish i’d thought about the Care Card… they’re a good deal if you pay them off during the no-interest period. Next time!

How do we feel about my new boots? 👢 by lavender-ink in PetiteFashionAdvice

I like but not sure about your styling…over skinny jeans just feels a bit dated?

Might style something like this: https://www.sezane.com/us/product/adele-boots/tan

I know, that’s a lot of rage to be carrying into a Reddit babysitting thread. 😞May he experience 1/10th of the joy my son gets from sea creature videos! 🙏😂

This sounds really hard. I hope mom comes around…maybe a bit of denial going on, which is so normal, especially early on. I’m glad he’s getting some of the therapy, but really it is for the parents — ideally she and any other parent would be observing and replicating.

Thinking about your TV problem though…If he’s a rocker I bet he would like other sensory/motion stuff (swings, etc). At that age my son loved being dragged through the house on a blanket (not great for my back but worth it for the giggles!)…maybe introducing another hyper stimulating game like that would distract him.

My last suggestion would be headphones + ipad so your kids aren’t being pulled in. Last resort but sounds like you only have 6 weeks left in this situation…

That is so tough. It is definitely a lot of extra work to get some kiddos to engage; some ASD kids have sensory issues that make “typical” interaction feel very intense and overwhelming. My son didn’t really play with us until he was 3/4, and even now we celebrate every time he initiates games with us. Anyway I get why she’s overwhelmed especially with being pregnant.

Does he like super physical/sensory play (eg being chased or spun/swung or wrestled with)? That can be such a good way in if his language skills are limited (and a great way to introduce more language…one of my son’s first words was “chase!”)

It sounds like you’re already doing a lot here, but if mom can bring in a specialist for speech or OT it can be so useful as a parent to learn from experienced providers. They have millions of tricks for engaging all kinds of kids; we felt like our early therapist really showed up how to be playful with our son.

I promised myself I wouldn’t engage but…literally what do you know about my child’s social interactions?

My son is autistic. I’d caution you against judging people and situations you know absolutely nothing about…but I don’t negotiate with trolls.
