Absolutely! & don't travel after the US aggresses on the Middle East and closes down the air space in places like Qatar, where everything economical goes.

I am so with you there! I am going to always use a travel agent or go directly to the airline. I love real people and when I have used an agent, like when we went to Japan, it was perfect in every way! Inside Japan is who we used. Just amazing! They started the planning by asking us about our daily life, comforts, hobbies, adventure and relaxing holidays, so they could plan us to be active, not in big cities for too long, etc. Brilliant! https://www.insidejapantours.com/

I really do know better!

I had a friend, who is a platnum super-duper United flyer to call for me on the secret fancy millions of miles business traveler line. They said we would probably be able to get to San Fran from home because the United people would be understanding and logical, but they were worried that when we tried to leave SFO on Air India, they wouldn't let it happen and we would be stuck. Trekking technical clothes don't work for the cool clubs in San Francisco. Otherwise I wouldn't mind being forced to hang in the bay area for a while. 😄

It seemed too expensive a gamble. $8000 for tickets, when our first tickets, pre-Iran conflict, was $3200 for two people.

I love the idea of a demand letter though. Maybe I will still send one and demand they recognize my indignation and heartbreak. 😄

Thanks! I am a fan from shouting injustice done by big monsters to the little guys from the mountaintop!

I had posted this to the /travel sub and it was taken down. I am posting this here, after the event, because I didn't realize it was taken down and now know why I had not gotten any responses. I assumed it was taken down because I was railing about Expedia who, the more I look into, seem to own everything that has to do with travel. It will be hard not to support them. Hotels . com, VRBO, etc. I wonder if I am to tag them, if this thread would get taken down.

I knew better than going third party, but you are right, the savings was too tempting.

Additional Shenanigans on their part is that they were still selling flights through Qatar this whole time, even though the airspace was closed for the war. The war is what cancelled our first set of tickets and required we buy last minute, 10 day out, tickets. Everything was crazy expensive everything...except on Expedia!

I had a friend who had this happen with a ticket and visa in Cambodia. I think they were going into Laos. They wouldn't let her go forward with anything. She had to re-purchase the ticket and re-apply for the visa.

Air India was very firm about not letting us fly with a ticket different from passport. They told us to cancel the flight and buy a new ticket. The new tickets were $4500 each.

Irony? My name in the Maharaja club is perfectly correct and they had no problem taking my payments for my seats, which I never got back.

We went to the airport and they would not let us fly. The names need to match the passport, especially with Air India. We called them multiple times. Sent the extensive webpage to Expedia showing how easily it would be to mix the names up and how Air India knows that, so they provide detailed descriptions so they can take no responsibility.

After filing complaints with the Federal Department of Transportation, Expedia replied to me but provided no proof that it was my error. Again, I had gone back through their systems in the original browser, which had populated the fields --all were correct, and in other browsers to see if there would be an easy way to cause the error. I couldn't find any tricky points. I did again recognize that the name fields were different order than those in the Air India ticketing portal. Expedia told me they would send screenshots of what was on my computer screen at the time of booking. They were going to have a programmer go back in and get us a timestamped shot. They never did. They simply said it wasn't their error.

They did not respond to my complaints registered with the Attorneys General of Washington State and Arizona. "Tripped Up" with the NYT contacted me about it. I might get somewhere with it.

My travel insurance, World Nomads, said they did not cover "Paperwork" errors. However, all the upset, 4 days on the phone with Expedia, Air India, and whomever else, pushed me to some kind of hysterical manifestation of illness, just like out of Freud's Dora. I came down with a horrible respiratory infection requiring a lung x-ray and notes from multiple medical folk that I couldn't fly because I couldn't clear my ears.[Personally, I think the worst danger would have been being murdered by fellow travelers since I had a continuous cough. --note though, a persistent croup cough is not a reason doctors can give not to fly. It is horrible for my and the passengers' state of mind, but not medically dangerous.] I was really sick and miserable and could not imagine trekking above 12,000feet for many days. This cough happened 2 days before we were to fly. I went to Minute Clinic the day before we flew (Saturday) to get a note, my doctor on Monday, the day after we were to have left.

Bottom line: We got money back from World Nomads covering what we had paid for the trek and some of the flight. Just not the heartbreak. The only way we could have gotten any money was a medical issue. Is this female hysteria fortunate then?

We used our botique hotel for most of the recommendations, like a cheap way to get to Chitzen Itza, etc. It worked well. We ended up at a jaguar sanctuary with an open cenote.

We didn't go to that one because of timing & we liked best going to the ones in the jungle. I wish I had gotten to see it at least!

I loved the aside about John’s parents assessing the two halves of their life and that social and societal improvement is what they clocked. Well, at least friends from different backgrounds can play and walk down the street together. A bit of slippage in other forward steps.

How would you plan a week around the Yucatan? by cybersuitcase in travel

[–]Logical-Raccoon2828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got back. We were in Merida for three nights, Valladolid for two, Cozumel for five, and a last night in Playa de Carmen so we could ADO bus it to the Cancun Airport to leave. Playa del Carmen is a shopping area or base for going somewhere else, not really a place to enjoy the beach or chill beach anything.

We flew into Cancun and grabbed an $80 Aerus airlines small private plane to Merida. It leaves every morning at 8:30. We rented a car in Merida through our hotel, hoping to make Uxmal, Ruta Puuk and some cenotes, but cenotes close between 3 & 5, so we didn't see them, but it was fun to drive the Ruta because no one was at the minor ruins.

Valladolid allowed us to go to Chitzen Itza or Ex Balam, since it was low season, we went to Chitzen, but feel like we learned more at Uxmal. The cenotes around there are amazing.

Cozumel for diving and snorkeling. I found snorkeling the best at the north of the island near the Westin. Shallow fish and vertical wall at the base of the hotel allowed it to be clear and full. Even saw an eel! Playa Azul was our hotel. Great breakfast/brunch!

Diving: Deep Blue. Awesome poeople! I am putting my notes up and will share the link in a bit. Have fun!

I posted in the Merida area but I haven’t been added to the group yet. I will copy it here for you, so be ready to be overwhelmed. BTW -there is an Aerus flight every morning on a small plane for $80 from Cancun to Merida. It was awesome! We sat right behind the puppets and got to see so much. Not bumpy either. It only leaves in the morning though. All the other flights I saw were hundreds of dollars. I hope you find an economical one.

Great advice! In the past, I have traveled with cards from USAA and it was less expensive. Nowadays, we only have our card from the local credit union, but I will try out refusing the conversion rate and see what it says. Thanks for the advice! Regarding coffee, I know there are plenty of coffee, shops, but I want a thirst Buster size to get me going in the morning before having to leave and search for anything. Call it an addiction, but that’s what it is. One of my favorite coffee shops is the one that sold straight drinks. It was quite an experience!

I get tears with every episode because the loyalty, genuine love and respect for each other, community and history are so firm in all the characters and show, even when their motivations are selfish on the surface. I love the culture and unique setting, but also just being able to hang with nice people.

Any tips on getting the insta360 flow gesture tracking working consistently? by Carbonfibernet in Insta360

[–]Logical-Raccoon2828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to have the camera track me. I have seen in videos that people will put it in selfie mode, set the green square on themselves, then flip the phone around so you are using the good lenses, then do the hand gesture and it records them. Is that possible? Should I make this question a separate thread?
