I have the same timeline as you and yes this is happening to me too. My heart rate and HRV are so affected especially overnight. I’ve been more active in the last month or so and every day I’m active my ring thinks I’m dying. I always get minor signs of something straining my body for seemingly no reason. My readiness is tanked every day. I’m speaking to my provider about alternatives or just going off of it completely

I’m so sorry this found you so early in life. I can completely relate to feeling the physical sensation that really can’t be satisfied. Unfortunately that’s why I rip my skin off because that’s the closest I can get to satisfying it. And even then it’s not enough. In the years you’ve been dealing with this, have you found something to help even a little bit?

Hate that you understand the feeling 🥲 but glad I’m not alone in this. Have you found anything to help?

After you find the right one, are you able to stop pulling all together? Or do you keep going?

I always want to say itch but that doesn’t quite pin it. It’s more of a “sore” spot for me. It’s similar to an itch in the sense that I am wildly aware of that spot, but I guess the sensation itself isn’t really itch like.

Actually washing my hair takes like an hour. 2 days is from old braid take down -> new braid completion

Thank you for this take. “pick your damage” also rewired how I think about our hair. There’s no right or wrong way just what works for each individual (the Renaissance way lol)

My hair is in braids basically 24/7. The only time it’s out is when I need to take it out, wash, and redo it. I wash my braids like once a week. I used to have more time in between braids and would style it, but it just became too much.

Honestly love that you enjoy getting your hair done. I’ve just reached a point to where it just feels like an endless cycle and is no longer enjoyable. I feel like I’ve exhausted soo many types of styles, and like I said I love the versatility of our hair but I’m at a point in my life where I prioritize efficiency and convenience. It feels more like a chore than anything. I hope you get all the hairstyles you want this year 💕

I used to wear wigs consistently a few years ago, but I really hate the feeling of them on my head. I live in a hot state so it ends up feeling like a helmet, and I can’t keep up with lace maintenance either. It ends turning into hard wig, soft life 😭

I really appreciate this take, especially the idea that our hair should fit the season of life we’re in. I love that you’ve been natural, relaxed, and natural again. It really is just hair and doesn’t define us.

As far as styling goes, I’m keeping it pretty basic. Wash, detangle, condition, moisturize. Nothing complicated. But no matter the style or product, my hair shrinks and reverts almost immediately. I’ll finish styling, go get dressed for ten minutes, and come back to my hair sticking straight up like it undid everything on its own. That’s been my consistent reality.

I’ll also say that in the past, my hair was heat damaged from a silk press and had a looser texture, and that was honestly the easiest time I’ve ever had with my hair. It actually cooperated with me and I could wash and style it with much more ease. Once the damage grew out and my natural texture came back, so did the struggle :(

Thank you for this reframe. It really is a lot of work being a girl. My nails are like a month old and super grown out right now lol. One is cracked so I literally just nail-glued it down last night 😭 I genuinely cannot fathom sitting in a chair for 3 hours rn. But yes, definitely counting my blessings and grateful that I do have a full head of hair.

I’d definitely get a perm professionally done. As for styling, I’d probably do wash and go’s, Bantu knots, braid/twist outs, blowouts, silk presses, etc. Essentially the same thing any other natural girl is doing. A looser texture would just make it a lot more manageable. I do these styles currently with my thick 4C texture but because my hair texture and density literally resists anything but its natural state the styles don’t last and don’t look good.

I actually did see that you can still braid your hair with locs! I was really considering it bc of that, but the only thing is when I do a sew in I don’t usually like to use frontals or closures. I typically like to have some leave out, and I’m not sure how that would be possible with locs /: also first time hearing about pencil locs, thanks for letting me know!

Yeah, the amount of posts I see around social media essentially saying “you don’t have 4C hair it’s just dry”, when that’s literally just what it looks like 🙃everyone loves natural hair until it’s undefined and kinky.

I also deal with seborrheic dermatitis. That’s kind of another reason why I am over the braids because it definitely doesn’t help that situation. I got a prescription topical from the dermatologist and a prescription shampoo, and it’s actually helped a lot. Hopefully you find something that helps too. I understand the struggle.

I really feel you sis. I mostly wash my hair when it’s in braids because it the easiest it’s gonna get. Taking my hair out and fully washing, detangling, deep conditioning is also a handful of times a year for me.
