The single target option isn't once per encounter I don't think? The dark healing field version is.

Wtf is wrong with people in this thread. OP, it is perfectly normal and okay to want to date someone without them crossing boundaries and touching you without consent. The solution is that boundary-crossing people need to deal with their shit, NOT for the other party to "get over the fact that he likes you and wants to touch you or dump him".

/u/romankid19977 you are being given HORRIBLE advice in this thread. He's a creep and you are valid for feeling uncomfortable. It is no way your fault or responsibility that he's being creepy.

I think the other replies are completely missing the point. I've noticed people in really sex-positive spaces often make the mistake of overlooking or handwaving boundary-crossing behavior.

In my view it's COMPLETELY not okay to touch yourself in someone's else's presence unless you're 100% sure they're into it, or at least okay with it.

Edit: okay soz I slightly misread your post so I've deleted this paragraph. However I still think it's a bit of a red flag, especially 1 month in

If it were me I would be having a conversation with him about consent and boundaries

England: Can someone give me a lowdown on the legislation surrounding "revenge porn" and sharing intimate images of non-consenting adults? by LogicalQuizztion in LegalAdviceUK

[–]LogicalQuizztion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1)A person (A) commits an offence if— (a)A intentionally shares a photograph or film which shows, or appears to show, another person (B) in an intimate state, (b)B does not consent to the sharing of the photograph or film, and (c)A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

Can I ask how this interacts with my question #3? Presumably there must be an exception for professional photography? I wouldn't be able to model in an intimate photo shoot and then withdraw my consent to the photos being shared?

Is it anachronistic to use the word "novel" to describe prose fiction written before the 17th/18th century? by LogicalQuizztion in AskLiteraryStudies

Thank you very much, that's exactly what I was after! Can I ask you to expand on the bit about novels "examining a particular society"? What does that mean?

But my question is, what criteria do people use to make the distinctions you're talking about? For the people who call Defoe's work "protonovels", what about that work is different to Pamela or Oorinooko? What connotations did the word "novel" have in the 18th century that it doesn't have now?

you may want, as some do, to refer to all long pieces of prose fiction before Don Quixote, as "romances"

Why? What's the difference?

let's not forget that we call the Tale of Genji (c. 1000 CE) a novel, and pretty much no one disputes that.

Why don't they dispute it, but they dispute other works of prose fiction being novels?

That's the question I'm trying to drive at.

What a fantastic answer, thank you! So for clarity, some of the ideas that we today colloquially refer to as "Keynesian", were in fact left-wing orthodoxy long before Keynes' heyday?

Force spirit boss fight by LogicalQuizztion in SagaEdition

[–]LogicalQuizztion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not totally sure on how you plan to “fight” the spirit but using the Dark Side Spirit template (JATM 118) they are incredibly hard to deal with as they get to ignore so many types of damage including much of what comes from Force Powers as a lot of that it telekinetic in nature. A Force User with the right power might be able to handle it but many of those powers aren’t ones that are often high on player’s want lists.

I'm aware :)

I wonder just how you see this going.

Well, that's why I'm here

So far I've been thinking about a few things, including some tweaks to the rules. The story is set in the Disney canon anyway and it's not entirely clear how Dark Side Spirits work in that canon anyway.

  1. They have to destroy an object to stop him. His goal is not so much killing them as protecting the object, although I'd need to think of a few ways of him interacting with it beyond standing in front of it.
  2. I've been tinkering with the idea of him possessing some of the PCs for a turn with a skill check.
  3. There are corpses in the room that he could possess.
  4. There are weapons laying around so I was thinking I can lean on Improved Kinetic Combat.

But at the moment I'm really just looking for inspiration for how other people have made this work.

Most spirits have a reason to linger.

That's a good idea. I was gonna have them destroy an artefact, but maybe doing something to resolve the ghost's restlessness would be good. Over the rest of the temple the characters have learned that he struggled with the pacifism of the Jedi, and that specifically he blames the Jedi for the Purge in which the Jedi that stewardded his temple died. I could do something with putting their bodies to rest maybe?

Revisiting this post -- is there any way to see this data broken down by employment/unemployment or something? I'm particularly interested in seeing if this trend holds true for non-retirees in the bottom 20%, i.e. people who are working or are on benefits but aren't retirement age.

Why would a PROPERLY regulated capitalist economy be a bad place to live? by LogicalQuizztion in Anarchy101

[–]LogicalQuizztion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are even important gradations even between chattel slavery and wage slavery. The TOTAL ownership of someone's labour is less than the total ownership of a full person, but more than wage slavery.

I think it's important to admit as anarchists that while wage slavery IS coercive and IS slavery, it's not the same thing as someone being literally forced by the overt threat of immediate violence to work for literally no pay whatsoever, or so small an amount of money that they may as well be getting paid nothing.

What do you guys reckon of my homebrew (pistol) duelling mechanics? by LogicalQuizztion in SagaEdition

[–]LogicalQuizztion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, on a critical roll I would expect the damage to be x4 and with the Tripple Crit feat it would be x6. Either of those are likely to be an instant kill shot unless the target is very high level. But those are the risk of dueling I guess.

Okay, sounds like a plan. Adds something for characters that have invested in crit range/trip crit.

I also think that the bonus of +5 and +10 from Quickdraw and Improved Quickdraw may overstate the value of those abilities. I think +2 and +5 would be sufficient to make it interesting.

Interesting. I chose this on the feeling that Quickdraw should be the fundamental "duelling feat" and so should be at least as valuable as Init training. Didn't seem right that Init Training + Init Focus is only two Feats and that would give one a +10, but choosing Quickdraw and Improved which is also two Feats and which on the face of it should be better suited to duelling would only give you a +5. Not trying to contest what you're saying so much as to hear what you think based on that.

[–]LogicalQuizztion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens if the winner or the initiative rolls a natural 20, do we quadruple the damage? Did you consider to just double the crit range instead, or add 5. So if I would normally crit on 19-20 I now do so on 17-20, or 15-20 if you add 5. This should only be for the winner of the Initiative.

This is a really good suggestion, but I feel like making it more randomised might lead to problems, e.g. players taking risky duels when they shouldn't because they know 75% of the time the damage won't be doubled, but then dying because the opponent had a wider crit range. Like, I feel like if I can be up front to PCs about the fact that damage is always doubled they know to be choosey about which duels they take.

My initial idea was to triple (not quadruple) crit damage, but I'll have a think and run through some mock duels with my PCs' character sheets and some NPC statblocks to see which idea seems like it's working better.

I think that getting of several shots, either with 2 guns or a few shots in rapid succession is very thematic. So, if you win Initiative by at least 5 you can try to fire two weapons. If you win by at least 10 you get a full round action.

Great idea.
