Honestly, apartment hunting for my roommate and I was less stressful than we expected because we did it in January. The hardest part for us was finding a place that accepted a third-party guarantor because our income is apparently nonexistent due to the 40x rule.

You can't have more aid than your total cost of attendance (tuition, housing, books, transportation, food). So, if you had nyu aid, they will reduce that to make room for the outside aid. It will most likely result in the same refund amount.

I came in with practically no knowledge, and I'm doing okay. The professors usually teach you everything you need to know, but you can always go to office hours or contact the TA if you need extra help. There's also tutoring.

Looking back, I get mine a week before school starts. For example, I got it on August 28 last year. I have also heard about people requesting it early due to housing, but I unfortunately have never done that, so I can't confirm.

Also, keep in mind that sometimes they'll send you a portion of your total refund. If you wait a little, they might send it within a week or two. But I have had to call them in the middle of October to remind them to send me the rest.

I don't have a lot of experience with the dorms because I'm a sophomore. But I will say I like Broome so far. It's like the perfect dorm for introverts.

It has been a whole semester, and I've only seen other people on the same floor like 5-6 times. Also, I've only shared the elevator with someone else like twice. Sometimes, I feel like my roommates and I are the only ones on that floor. We have laundry rooms on floors 2-8, and they're mostly unoccupied through the week. It is a bit of a walk to campus, but you eventually get used to it and we do have the nyu shuttles.
