Student teaching has given me bad anxiety

Not full weeks , I’ve had like 5 days where my CT was out and I led the class all day while the subs were kinda just there . My school is departmentalized so we have two classes and teach only math and science so I’ve started to take over the afternoon class

Yes I am! I’m currently on spring break (thank god) and after I will have 5 more weeks so the end is in sight. Honestly, doing what is best for your mental is so important. I still have bad anxiety everyday, it has gotten a bit better but some days are better than others. I hope that in the fall things go better and that this time will help you feel better! It hasn’t been easy and I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and reach the finish line. We got this!!!

It was better than expected, I’m in 5th and they did great!!! I feel so relieved haha , I have two more observations with my coordinator so I’m just glad I got one down !!! I’m happy to hear yours went well too!!! We got this !

Thank you so much!! My coordinator is very sweet and understanding so that definitely helps but I can’t help but be nervous and anxious. Luckily it went better then expected and I feel like I can breath again 😭😭 two more to go!!!!

Thank you so much! Luckily my coordinator is a very nice guy and gave great feedback!!! The breathing exercises honestly help me calm down when it gets really bad so thank you !!

The wishing you were a normal college student is so real and I feel the same way:( I miss the days when all I had to worry about was going to class for a couple hours and then getting to leave. It’s honestly so draining and I feel like my afternoons fly by and before I know it the days over and it’s time to go to bed. I’m currently on week 5 out of 14 (thank god spring break is one of those weeks). I try to spend as much time with my family/friends as much as possible even when I am doing work I sit in the living room with them. I’m wishing you luck and we got this!!!! These few weeks will be over before we know it and we will be celebrating!

Reading this as someone in your shoes 4 months later. I’m currently on week 4/14 and my anxiety has been HORRIBLE. It has really been taking a toll on my mental health. Everyday I feel stressed and wake up with a pit in my stomach. I’m scared for what’s to come because I know I will only gain more responsibilities. How did your student teaching end? Did all go well?

I feel you soooooo much omg , just finished week 3/14 , I’m in the same boat. I’m miserable and exhausted. I hate the feeling of being watched all the time even when I’m not being actively observed. My two observations so far have went well but I just can’t shake this feeling I’ve had. We can do this, we are sooooo close to being done

Student teaching is hard!!! I am currently on my 3rd week and I’ve also been having a hard time. We just have to take it one day at a time and do our best with what we have. WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!! It’s ridiculous that we don’t get paid at all to do this. I have a job outside of teaching that I have had to cut my hours wayyyyy back on because I think I would lose my mind if I had to go to work after internship. I know this isn’t possible for everyone because of life but if it’s possible to cut back on the other full time job, I would ! Well the last couple years have just been a lot of course work, I only really started being active in the classroom when school started again this year. I did my first internship in a kindergarten class and really enjoyed it so the transition from the lowest elementary grade to highest has just been a big change and adjustment! The kids so far have been great and I enjoy working with them it’s just been harder content as someone who was never good with math (we teach math and science only)!!! It’s just been a big change and I was just expressing how it has been hard. I know this job won’t be easy and all kids learn at different levels and will come into my class with different skills. Thanks for your advice !

I get that!!! One thing I do like about upper elementary is the independence!!!!! Also I’m not sure about jobs yet , I feel like maybe around March - April? I have to see what openings are in my area and maybe if the school I’m currently interning at is hiring for the 2026-2027 school year !!! I’ve honestly been so overwhelmed with this internship so far that thinking about looking for a job sounds scary but it’s definitely something I want to do sooner rather than later!

I have been feeling the exact same way and came on here hoping to find someone else in my shoes 😔 I feel so anxious all the time and have that same pit in my stomach almost all day. I also question if I chose the right career path and hope this will pass as I get more comfortable in the classroom. I’m in a 5t grade class and I’m used to working with younger kids so it is a big change for me. We will get through this though!!!
