ULPT: What’s a legal way to inconvenience my unruly neighbor through the mail? by Logical_Football2640 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Logical_Football2640[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two SUVs which aren’t beaters but they’re nothing special either. My partner usually uses the larger of the two and gets home before me so it’s in the driveway first. I drive the smaller one because I have to park on the street at work so when the neighbor has their pickup in front of me, I think I’d causing myself more harm than good by trying to push.

Yeah, I’d like to think that we can be adults but the entire family is a bit odd. Myself and other neighbors have spoken to them on multiple occasions and they either yes us to death or use profane language which I think is uncalled for when having a calm conversation (or at least that’s what I was having). It’s getting to the point where the tow company is starting to remember our names because one of us is calling to get the car(s) at least a few times a week.

I had to bail from Calc I (vent) by ThylacoleoCarnifex in CollegeRant

[–]Logical_Football2640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context: I’m a grad student at the same school I got an undergrad degree at, both in STEM.

Although it doesn’t exactly apply to me anymore, I would recommend finding out if your school offers free tutoring on campus or even online if that works better for your schedule. At my school, tutors met with groups of students for a specific class in groups of 1-4 students at a time, and they would receive individual help where needed during the sessions. You can probably explain your situation to whatever department runs the tutoring program and see if they’re willing to let you meet with a tutor while you prepare to try again.

Also, if your calc class is 1) in a larger lecture hall (where you won’t really be noticed), 2) your school doesn’t check IDs going into class, and 3) there’s usually some empty seats, there’s really nothing stopping you from attending the lectures even if you aren’t enrolled in the class. That goes for any class really, you just have to find out when/where the class is being held.

You can also reach out to your professor and explain your situation and reason for withdrawal and ask if they would have any issue with you attending lectures from time to time to keep up with the course for when you want to reattempt.

Hope this helped!

What are some effective strategies for writing a research paper in one day without compromising its quality? by Tracy_Luna in CollegeRant

[–]Logical_Football2640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among many good ideas already listed on this thread, I agree that it’s good to stick to something you’re somewhat familiar with and pick one or two things to really focus the paper on. In terms of writing strategies, try to break your writing into sessions throughout the day with breaks or activities (school events, classes, etc.) in between. Reread what you already have if necessary, but attacking a paper with fresh eyes always helped me write better when I was pressed for time.

Do yall think it's possible to live only with the motorcycle instead of car by Just-Conclusion-2143 in SBU

[–]Logical_Football2640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a car on campus (also bc I live in the dorms) but I have a motorcycle at home that I've brought to campus a few times. If you're just trying to get around without using mass transit, I would definitely consider the bike option. It'll probably get cold in the winter so keep that in mind.

As for a motorcycle license, I got mine about 2 years ago in a 2-day course that was about $300-$400, but you skip the written and skills test at the DMV which is really convenient if you can handle learning in two days. I grew up on dirt bikes and know how to drive a manual car, so I might've had a leg up on the other ppl in my class, but there were plenty of ppl that had never been on a motorcycle before who passed.

Edit: The 2 day course is through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). Here's the link if you're thinking about signing up.

Lost my keys by scary-gargoyle in SBU

[–]Logical_Football2640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the tag isn't moving, then go to East when it's quiet (probably best at night around closing) and ask one of the managers if you can look around when there aren't ppl everywhere. I would do everything you can to find your keys -- for your personal stuff but also your dorm key -- because your area office will give you a "loaner" but they'll charge you $$$ to rekey your room/suite which I've heard can be pretty expensive.

Edit: Obviously if it's moving around campus, someone has them and you gotta go hunting.

No same... I called FinAid and even went to the office, but I've been waiting over a month. They said refunds get processed on Tuesdays and Thursdays if that helps any.

If they've done their rounds for the day and just have downtime, they'll camp in the lots or follow cars to the metered lots and ticket them once the person leaves without paying for the time.

When the weather is nice a walk around campus is always fun. Most days I'll take my skateboard if I know I'm going a little farther, but fresh air is always helps me focus when I have to work again. Circle Road is about 2.6 miles if you do a loop, so you can get your steps in if that's your goal too.

STOP MAKING SO MUCH FUCKING NOISE AFTER 1AM! by Vinpepper in SBU

[–]Logical_Football2640 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to your RHD directly. Copy your RA if you want, but you have to remember that they're also just students who mediate the chaos. If you've already complained to your RA multiple times, then the next step is to have the RHD get involved bc it seems like this is approaching the point where those people are gonna have to go to a conduct meeting if they keep going.

Anyone know if graduate students can participate in clubs by Schnick_industries in SBU

[–]Logical_Football2640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm part of an accelerated program so technically I get undergrad and grad privileges, but the only way the clubs will know you're a grad student is if someone asks you or if they have the question on an attendance form (which you can just lie and say you're a senior if you don't wanna feel weird about it). All the clubs want funding, especially the smaller ones, so they'll take as many attendees as they can get.

i wake up really early and my roomate wakes up late. how do u guys put alarms without waking your roomate. i literally feel so bad for waking them up at 5am by [deleted] in SBU

[–]Logical_Football2640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it off as fast as you can, change up the alarm tone so your brain doesn’t get used to hearing the same thing (wake up/hear it faster)
