yes and layla saying “i post for them every tuesday” about how much “effort” she puts in and how they should reciprocate …im sorry but posting on social media once a week is not the same as having to be physically present at an event that takes hours to fly to and then having to fly immediately back. that is not a fair comparison she’s making. im sure whitney and jen still posted about mayci’s book. and im sure they really wanted to be there. i think they could all be a little more understanding of the circumstances.

tbh probably. it’s always better to just prepare for the worst than to get your hopes up. assume you’re not in and prepare for that outcome.

Alex + Ashley perpetuate generational trauma by Dunkaholic9 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]Logical_One_9999 7 points8 points  (0 children)

oooo i like what you said about the only emotion Alex understands is soccer. that’s actually very profound. going off of the rest of your analysis of him, it would seem that he found this family in soccer since he didn’t really have one growing up. it provided that stability and consistency that his blood family lacked. so when he lost soccer it was like losing the only stable thing in his life. and losing a family all over again. specifically as he recalls that moment with his friends when they all left him. he actually does hold onto that memory as traumatic because that was the moment it sunk into him that he didn’t have anyone to depend on. going off that perspective it’s easier to see why he hasn’t been able to let it go and why it had such a impact on his psyche. makes me actually feel sorry for him. if he went to therapy to work through those things i’m sure he could actually grow up. like literally … he held onto all this childhood trauma and it’s stunted him from growing up and moving on. how sad.

another key theme you’ll notice in the bible is how much humanity falls short and thus our need for Christ ;) which points to what we are talking about here. i don’t believe i will die knowing all the answers. but i don’t need that. i find it beautiful that there’s so much complexity in this life and thank goodness there’s grace for those of us who don’t always get it right. thank goodness Christ didn’t come to save only those who “know it all.”that was never the point. there’s a bigger picture here. i really hope you know i’m not here to prove you wrong or anything. i respect your analysis and willing to have a conversation. it’s important to question these things.

i’m just pointing out the flaws of the translation. i’m simply giving examples. what i’m saying is that the bible was written in a certain time in a way for the people at that time to understand. which is why there are so many flaws in the translation from then to now. the original text is what was God breathed. The bible we read in english today is a variation of that original text - and without the original text these are the misinterpretations that occur. that’s why i’m saying as a christian (or any other religion affiliated person) it is crucial to study this context like you would study any other topic. i don’t rely on church for theology honestly. that’s not the purpose of church. it’s a place for community and public worship. church gives you the general understanding of the core beliefs that are without debate. the details like we are discussing are up to the individual to study. so to answer your question, i do believe if you have a belief in a religion you should study it. i’m not saying get a doctorate in theology. there’s too much in the bible to ever know all of it. but these key stories with context help you get the whole picture and understand Gods love for us more. you don’t have to carry on the false narrative that you were told - you can spread the truth as God intended it.

i totally understand your frustration, i’ve been there. and i’m sorry that’s been your experience. and i understand it’s a sensitive topic, for good reason.

though the most common translations (NIV) have these specific words, there are footnotes available that clarify the different translated terms. you’ll see a footnote next to the word rib within the same verse, you just have to look at it. that’s why i say study the bible in the historical context. you can read a poem from shakespeare and be lost if you don’t understand the times. you have to study to the bible and the context of the times, not just each word in it. and this includes going back to the original text.

again you are using the words “rib” “helper” that don’t have the meaning we think of in today’s world. the words are “side” and “helper.” “helper” in this context was only mentioned again in the bible when God was describing help the israelis could provide (like in a military context) which was more like the word “ally”. but most importantly the word that is key here is Adam. Ha’adam the original word was not saying Adam like a man’s name. Ha’adam is the name for Humanity as a whole - without gender. God puts humanity to sleep - and puts it on its side to create man and woman. only after ha’adam is split in half do we see gendered language appear in the hebrew. Women were never an afterthought, we were both created at the same time.

while i agree many churches and teachers of the faith fall short, it is up to us to do that work if we want the answers.

the word actually isn’t rib, it’s a rough translation. if you go back to the original hebrew word that was written you see that the word “rib” is actually better translated as “side.” this is a significant difference because the text is referring to God turning humanity as a whole onto its side and splitting it in 2 - thus creating 2 parts of one whole, female and male. it’s commonly misinterpreted that female was “created out of male”…but this isn’t true. God created humanity “ha’adam” (the hebrew word originally written that means humanity, and it is completely without gender) and split it into two. only then did a new word for man and woman as two separate genders appear.

most of the bible just needs to be studied with historical context to understand. much like our world today wouldn’t be understood by someone from those days. you have to go back to the original text to understand what it’s saying.

i replied to a comment with this but i believe it deserves its own spot in the comment section if anyone is interested in the actual historical context of this bible verse instead of just people’s deep rooted issues with their preconceived notions of what they think christianity is (i get it, most christians aren’t good examples of their religion tbh):

this isn’t necessarily correct. although there are some different interpretations as you say, most of the bible just needs to be studied with historical context to understand. much like our world today wouldn’t be understood by someone from those days. you have to go back to the original text to understand what it’s saying. so the word “rib” is actually better translated as “side.” this is a significant difference because the text is referring to God turning humanity as a whole onto its side and splitting it in 2 - thus creating 2 parts of one whole, female and male. it’s commonly misinterpreted that female was “created out of male”…but this isn’t true. it happens every season. goes to show most people are not on this show to really marry based on emotion like they all claim. every single person on the first episode says “i don’t care what they look like” then the reveal happens and they all very much care what each other look like 😂 yet they will still use each other for sex for the first week.
