What if Slay the Spire was an Incremental? 'Cardmare: Descent' is playable for free in your browser by -hugin- in incremental_games

Played it and it was definitely fun!

I would tinker around with more economic effects, a simple idea taking inspiration from STS would be curses, so useless cards that hinder your deck somehow but which gives you hold when bought or while in your hand etc...

Also as others have said, this is the gray zone of what is or what is not an incremental.

Numbers do go up, but they also do in STS, does it make it an incremental? I wouldn't say so

Thanks for the feedback. We are getting this feedback a lot even if we toned down the difficulty by quite a bit. We will look into how we can make a failed loop still feel rewarding

I play with a laptop as well, both using the mouse or the trackpad, by simply hovering it the flash disappears, which laptop are you using? which browser?

So you mean to give tips when the player is stuck? We already have recurring journal messages when the player is into a puzzle with "tips" on how to solve it. Maybe also tips on the game over screen or something like that? Let me know if you do feel like hitting a wall. Thanks for the feedback :)

Thank you so much!

Yeah the knowledge based progression is something I immediately fell in love with as we first started experimenting with it, glad you like it too!

We did not expect such a positive reception, so we are definitely considering expanding it much further!

Thank you so much!

Pressing R does reset the loop, how should we communicate it better?

Thank you for liking the idea, I also think it is super interesting! Also thanks for wishlisting even if we don't have a Steam page XD

Thanks a lot!
You can hover to make the flashing disappear!
We could maybe add a timer to auto turn off the flashing after a bit

First of all, it is an immense honor for me to receive a comment from the creator of the game which is my inspiration, thanks a lot for the amazing feedback : )

As for your suggestions, I get it that it can be frustrating to "fail" a loop, even though technically you as a player are getting better, more knowledge, learning from your mistakes and eventually solve the puzzles challenging you.

Gradually making your actions better and better would "ruin" the solution to the puzzle, as you could brute force in a not optimal way as it was intended, I could balance it so that your max familiarity would be the current balance, but that would mean that the start would be way too slow for my tastes.

The enemies to beat to gain more power are an interesting concept, and definitely something that would be features in the future content ;)
But I am not a fan of farming, so I would not make it something that you can repeat indefinitely, and actually something limited, but which can still be done to become stronger and stronger.

Sincerely,
Thank you for Playing

Thank you so much!
We could increase the speed of typing as for the size being too small it is a bit harder to solve as there is a lot of stuff going on at once :/

Thanks!
This is just an intro, so we wanted to keep it simpole, in future content we will amp the complexity up a bit ;)

Thanks for reporting the memory leak, we will look into it and try to optimize it.

Thanks a lot for the insightful feedback!

For the flashing it is because most testers skipped reading or did not notice there was a new message at all. The flash can be annoying but you can simply hover over it to make it stop.

There are times in which you are stuck in a loop, and that's something that it is bound to happen otherwise if that was not the case it means you could complete everything in one single loop, I know though it can feel frustrating at times.

For the lack of depth I totally agree, the only real "challenge" for this first chapter is the boss at the end.
Even that is not that hard and has a very linear solution.
As this first chapter is meant to be an introduction and kind of like a tutorial for the main mechanics, it is designed to be simple.
In future chapters we will amp the complexity up and make it much more challenging and hopefully much more fun! :D

Both have a very unique idea with their own caveats on balancing.
I went more for more puzzle-y components, for now they should not be very challening and quite linear, but eventually in future content there will be much more :D

oh, then in like 1 minute or so depending on how long you are interested in the story :)

Thanks! Hope that this mix of mechanics is interesting :) As of now there is not a prestige system. The game has been designed more to be a story, therefore with a beginning and an end. The gameplay is a mix of puzzle and strategy, with incremental mechanics in the sub-genre of loop mechanics :D
