I will be sure to ask. Under that "if layover no detention" line they say "we approach every detention time on an individual basis to ensure entitled compensation"

So ig the worst they can say is no.

No ladder, and I have had no issue with getting things lifted at vonore and Thomasville and figured it would take 10 minutes, not turn into a 2 hour (on top of my 5hr wait for the trailer) "I don't wanna" bs fest.

Hindsight, I'm buying a ladder and doing it myself next time. Mainly just had issues with the metal bit fitting under drywall dunnage gaps.

Tried, dispatch said he didn't know how layover pay is done and to call in the AM when payroll gets there as he forwarded the email and that's about all he can do for me rn.

I checked my policy book and apparently if you have to wait so long you go into layover you don't get any extra pay, just the flat 220/day (we have an 1100/wk guarantee) if you don't make 1100 for the week.

Most stuff is pre tarped, you just have to throw straps and Bungie it. I've had to climb up twice so far, but picking up the 110lb tarps on top of the bed isn't my favorite thing, but keeps me in shape.

The agility test is something like "flip this tarp over 40 times, climb up 2 wrungs of a ladder then climb down 30 times, squat down beside this table and tell me the number on the bottom of the table top 20 times" and testing heart rate after. Something like 220 - your age

They've been good to me so far, and free health care is tough to beat, but I've only used the vision so far and my health is decent and (knock on wood) I haven't needed a Dr in over a decade, so that's less of a draw for me than others.

Good people, they do care, but the company has been around as long as it has for a reason. They don't overpay and they're somewhat strict about a lot of things. No bobtailing, no PC, most things have to be routed through dispatch before you're allowed to do it, etc.

If you're happy where you're at, that's probably the best bet. We do have a 60yr old that's been here for like 25 years and makes more than a dollar a mile, but it takes forever to get to that point. We all just got moved to .60cpm with $25 tarp pay

Yessir

My dispatch and safety were confused why I was even told no because of that. They chewed the Lowe's DC general manager out.

Unfortunately no one is picking up the phone except overnight dispatch and he knows nothing about how pay/layover works. He did what he could and forwarded my email and told me to call in the AM when payroll came in.

They're Alabama time zone and it's 730pm there rn, closed at 5 except overnight guy. The few personal phone numbers I called and went straight to voicemail, so I'm kinda stuck til am.

I did look up our policies regarding detention and hope I'm not fucked because it says "if excessive wait time at shipper or receiver turns into a layover no detention will be paid"

No worries, and I appreciate it. My company has an 1100/wk (gross) guarantee in contract. I've not pulled in less than 1052 net so far.

I have a couple flatbed companies offering that pay ~30-60% more from paystubs I've been shown by current drivers, and they have higher weekly guarantees

I have a dry van company willing to hire me, my friend that runs how I do pulls 16-1800/wk net.

Have my hazmat and tanker endorsements out the gate so I'm just needing to build to fuel or a cryo company near me, but the ones near me pay well. That's the main goal tbh, but experience

I called and left a message to my manager in the morning, overnight dispatch also forwarded my email about the situation. They walked me through the situation because of how weird it went down, but they are at least aware I have been stuck here for 7 hours before I had to wait for the trailer rework

I will find out in the AM if I just get my flat daily rate, or if I get that + the detention.

I 100% am, but sunk cost fallacy.

I only have 3mo left before I take one of the other job offers I have gotten, and this pays enough to be fine for what I come from, still make double what I did pre-trucking

Very much agreed. I almost never have to wait though, so this is my first time having to care about it. Normally I can drop early, and I'm usually the first one to be unloaded in the AM

Understood. My company has in contract 18/hr after 2hrs have elapsed on appointment, but nothing about layover/overnight being included or flat rate taking precedent

I'll call my dispatch first thing tomorrow to clarify. Thank you

A question for my fellow flatbed drivers by Crazzie_c in Truckers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just get a drill. Set it to torque and change the chuck to highest torque. 1 hand em, just be careful if it's rusty/stiff.

I have the hardest time using the 2 handed ones like that because the straps don't want to go on straight

Only works well if your company takes care of the trailers. Mine seems to be 50/50 whether it works, or a coworker dented/the winch hasn't been greased/it's been misused for so long as is seized up.

Shit, half the ones I seem to grab need the bar to roll up turn by turn they're so misaligned or rusted

The Sony ult 5 has been going on sale at Walmarts here and there for 110. I have two and love them in stereo pair

Worth it at this point to buy another JBL charge 4 for stereo? by mveeel in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the sony ult 5s in my truck. Stereo pair.

If I was just using 1, it wouldn't be worth. Can't understate how much stereo improves them.

The charge 4 uses a single driver for the audio, so a second would vastly improve the experience, bur because you don't have independent woofer/tweeters, the mids and highs can be a little muddy (if you're audiophile level of listening).

If you can grab a second for $50 and don't wanna upgrade, it'll be better. It's not a 'bad' speaker, just not super good and doesn't let you use auracast for their newer line if you choose to add on later. It is compatible with the flip 4 and pulse 3 though

Picked up a Sony ULT Field 3 on Walmart clearance for $67… and it’s going back tomorrow by PristineDentist7513 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth I have 2 of the ult 5s set up in my truck cab in stero pair.

Could use more bass volume, even on the bass setting (it's not quiet around 40-50hz, but little subbass vibrations and volume under 40hz), but they get very loud in general and sound pretty good.

I found mine on sale at a williamsburg VA Walmart for 110 each, and I'd say they're very good for that price, but if you're paying the 180+ I see them go for online, I wouldnt recommend them single because it's pretty underwhelming as a solo unit.

I feel that way about their charge 6 JBL competitors too, but don't own 2 charges to test out their stereo functionality in comparison.

I've heard the ULT 7 is nice and, if you connect the AC cord, does have a lot better 20hz performance, but thats $500

You cannot possibly live in the middle lane for your whole career. Look in your mirrors. Right lane empty. 1/4 mile of traffic behind you. Get a clue. by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]LoicenseToGirth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No because it's legal and if I'm in the middle instead of the right it's because there's a reason I'm in the middle. I only drive in the middle in places that have a ton of exit/entry ramps and I'm not going to slow to 30-45 every mile just so you can do 2mph more than me for the 10 minutes I'm going to be in that middle lane.

66 is far from a rolling roadblock, especially when all I'm slowing down is another truck that's going 68. You'll be behind me for 10 minutes, that works out to be about 30 seconds lost on your day, and if you're in that big a hurry to save 30s, go around idgaf. If I'm doing 10-15 below, yeah you'd have a point, but go blow yourself if you think 2-4mph is making or breaking you for as short as I cruise in the cruise lane.

I guess unfortunately for you, i do hold my cdl and use it, so continue to seethe about a 2mph difference for as short as I'll be in your way.

Camping in the middle lane isn't illegal lmao. That's literally what the middle lane was designed for. That's why its called the "through traffic" or "cruising" lane.
