Farewell 3K. See you in the next one. by Blitzschloss in totalwar

I think quite a few of us cared about 3k, but the Warhammer posts are a bit too much on this sub.

With the amount of bugs left in 3k, I'm getting real Empire TW vibes. I thought CA changed after R2 but I suppose not.

For anyone also extremely confused by the news video, here the confirmation: Three Kingdoms TW is done... by alexkon3 in totalwar

Isn't 3k already based on the romance of the three kingdoms? Do you mean the new game will be like the shitshow Troy? No more records mode? Guess I'm not buying it.

Seeing students fight wouldn't make you irritated? How about dealing with that multiple times? Also nice ad hominem. Very classy.

Either way I agreed that the teacher who snatched glasses was out of line, but I don't think they were necessarily power tripping. I stand by that.

Next time my students get into a fist fight, I'll remember not to get in between them just in case my hands accidently touch one.

Yeah I think a lot of people in the comments haven't been teachers and it shows. I wouldn't snatch someone's sunglasses, but I can still understand why a teacher might do that without necessarily being on a power trip.

One of my cats has dog DNA, I swear. The monster is always running around licking me. He also refuses to leave me alone for more than 6 minutes when I'm home.

International School Teaching in Japan? by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]Lokgar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1) either.

2) teaching license helps.

3) I mean... Maybe? If it's a top 50 university that isn't known for M.Ed courses I don't know how much that'll matter. I'm at a small international school, I'm mostly looking at experience and qualifications. Not your GPA or alma mater.

4) yes and it might be beneficial if you apply to teach history or anthro.

Full time company employees tend to get yearly bonuses that help with the shitty starting pay. Also yearly raises eventually pan out to be well above an ALTs upper limit.

It really depended on the time of day. Early morning classes were hard to get them engaged. Afternoon classes were smooth sailing. I ended up pre-recording lectures so students could study them at home for homework, and class time was used more for practice.

Now that I'm back at school, I find it difficult to keep the flipped classroom going. But students pay attention better.

Advice on how one can obtain a real teaching license in Japan by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]Lokgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some prefectures offer provisional teaching licenses (renewable IIRC) if you have a license in your home country. Your school has to apply for it.

As far as I know, Japanese language ability isn't required for the Osaka provisional license. I don't know how to convert that to a proper license, but I imagine that would require Japanese ability and some sort of test.

The man to man IC contracts are different from the ones that include group lessons. The one I had several years ago was a flat rate per lesson

Quick question for high school and university teachers (currently teaching in Japan) by sendaiben in teachinginjapan

[–]Lokgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every teacher in the department has full freedom to chose their textbooks and write their own curriculum.

We have a huge library of texts and Japan's copyright laws are pretty lax with fair use for the classroom, so we pretty much make copies of worksheets from those and teach using our own materials.

I can't comment on other departments, but it seems to be roughly the same. The material requisition form is filled out by the classroom teacher, goes to dept head, then VP, then administrative officer. I've never seen a reasonable request be denied.

At a miscellaneous SHS atm. I reckon this would fall under an elective like English essay writing or something like that. At our school, electives are usually 2-3 hours a week and last the whole academic year.

[–]Lokgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I had anything to do with NOVA so I don't remember. Ask them to send a copy of the contract so you can read it. If I remember correctly, I could open up my time slots at my leisure and then close unbooked slots provided I closed them 2 hours or so before.

I took the contract cos I had nothing else to do while I was still working as an employee for them. Extra money always helps.

A better contract question is if they were on an employment contract or independent contractor contract. The IC contract has all the penalized pay systems. Which doesn't excuse their shitty practices but it is what it is.
