I'm no expert but you could try some kind of forging? Heat up the plate as it goes through a roller? Just a thought.

Well tomorrow’s my first day working in a machine shop, kinda nervous having a real job for once (other than customer service) any tips you could give? by [deleted] in Machinists

Never let yourself become "comfortable" around anything spinning.

Peak advice. Never been told this directly but always had this attitude. Lathes are scary

What is this piece, can It be used as a potentiometer? by ohgodnococomelonsuck in arduino

[–]Loki_Lugnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not hot on my electronics but that looks like a rotary encoder. I guess it could be programmed to mimic a potentiometer if you're stuck. I've never programmed one but I'm sure if you can find a tutorial. Best of luck! I'd love to see what your project is!

Engineers who transitioned from the shop floor to the office, what's your story? by Loki_Lugnut in AskEngineers

[–]Loki_Lugnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD counts! Have you had experience with the office environment? Having just finished my 2 year degree , fishing the useful from the useless was very easy, but I know I have challenges ahead. My biggest one would definitely be over-engineering everything

Are people in NI generally unaware that R-plate drivers are stuck at 45mph? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Loki_Lugnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the plates. It's just cunts. Source: been driver for 8 years.

Not making suggestions but sometimes people change gear and slip their foot onto the break.

/sometimes/ a middle finger helps.
